I think you missed the point, they said to provide your Taxpayer Id (e.g., SSN) when calling or sending a response to them with regard to the letter. How else are they supposed to know whose taxes the inquiry is about? What there should be, though, is some sort of unique number on the letter they sent you, which you can reference so they know exactly what issue you are referencing, which would preclude needing to provide you SSN directly.

The number actually belongs to the SSA. Tell the irs to contact them for repayment since they are the owner. They just let you use it for BENIFICIAL PURPOSES. If its not beneficial then don't use it.

Translation. I’m on a fixed income, this means I’m always broke. I got the first stimulus check, and the third stimulus check, both were deposited into my account directly. However the second stimulus check I did not get until just last week. Now I am to expect a letter from the internal revenue service indicating that I may have made some mistake on my filing of my taxes? On top of going deaf, on top of being blind, on top of the proposed $600 or more transaction being monitored by the illustrious IRS, on top of all this I am supposed to expect a letter? OK. I’ll be waiting. What else can I do. I’m just some poor little deaf and blind dude. Is this the America that we live in these days? Perhaps I was wrong in believing what I was taught in school back in the day. I heard the the IRS is so short staffed that only 3% of calls are getting to speak to a human. We filed electronically in the middle of February via TurboTax, so everything was correct but we till got a letter from the IRS saying that there might be a problem with our return. My wife and I called every day for the first month and spoke to a human only once. All they said is that they needed more time to process our return. Since then, every 60 days, we have gotten another of these letters saying that they need another 60 days to process our return. I think that maybe the US govt. is broke and just doesn't have the money to pay everyone?
Sorry to say this, but my wife and I donated our stimulus checks, with recipts writen out from the donated State funded companys. The IRS owes us money back, will they pay it back it the real question. Don't worry people it all went to State food shelf and the State homelesss shelters. It helped where it was needed at the time.

The Internal Revenue Manual (IRM) is what the employees use to answer questions and allege that you committed a crime. Yet, the IRM lists your taxes as gifts and it has frivolous claims listed and if you read the actual list, there are differences, even though they have the same numbers.
So, here is an assignment: in your tax class, ask your teacher: "if the tax code does not list the money that you make from your job in the definition of Wages (found in 26 USC 3121 and 3401) are you required to pay taxes on them?" If the instructor says yes, they are lying. The tax code is a regulatory code. If it is not defined, it does not exist. So, if you are making money, and you are not doing one of the things listed, why are you paying taxes?
The Income Tax was first branded as a Victory Tax back in the early 40s where the government ASKED the people to pay out some extra cash for the war effort. Unfortunately, people went along and were happy to. Then, there were constant reminders to pay your taxes! And people kept paying, even though they had no reason to. I spent about three and a half years reading the tax code and regulations. about the same amount in reading legal cases, submitting FOIA requests, talking to tax attorneys(who did not know the tax law!), and CPA. Most people are not engaged in a taxable activity. Even contractors that are told to file a W-9 are NOT to do so UNLESS...they are handling U.S. source income before it is transferred to its foreign owner.

I would recommend that you read and understand the actual definitions that pertain to the code in section 7701(yea...chapter 79! Why put the definitions at the very back? instead of where they should go...at the front like in all other legislative bodies of law). You have probably used them incorrectly in your class. 'Trade or business' does not mean a trade or a business. It is defined IN LAW as: The term “trade or business” includes the performance of the functions of a public office.(see 26 USC 7701(a)(26))
Now, here is the sticky wicket for you...include or includes means limited to unless there is an excepting modifier("but not limited to"). You have to find it clear down in 7701(c) :) And for additional reference...

The First Circuit court:
"The terms 'includes' and 'including' . . . shall not be deemed to exclude other things otherwise within the meaning of the term defined." 26 U.S.C. § 7701(c). In light of this we apply the principle that a list of [enumerated examples] should be
construed to include by implication those additional [items] of like kind and class as the expressly included [items]. *fn2 This follows from the canon noscitur a sociis, "a word is known by the company it keeps." Neal v. Clark, 95 U.S. 704, 708-09 (1878).” Brigham v. United States, 160 F.3d 759 (1st Cir. 1998)
And one last case:
"'[W]here Congress includes particular language in one section of a statute but omits it in another ..., it is generally presumed that Congress acts intentionally and purposely in the disparate inclusion or exclusion.' " Russello v. United States, 464 US 16, 23, 78 L Ed 2d 17, 104 S Ct. 296 (1983) (Quoting United States v. Wong Kim Bo, 472 F. 2d 720, 722 (CA 1972))
Another tidbit for you...the courts have ruled that you cannot use anything that an IRS agent says, nor any documentation or forms published by the IRS to build a legal position. You MUST use the law!
So, here is the big takeaway...read and understand the law. Do not take what any instructor or school book says unless you can confirm it with your own actions. Go and read the law. Read the regulations. The law is clear and a few cross-references, the regulations are a jumbled cross-referenced mess.
In addition to all the reading and talking to people, I have also spent considerable time and money on FOIA requests to get information pertaining to the W-4 and W-9 documents as well as questions about the tax code answered. I can tell you that one of the only times that the IRS has answered with anything to back up their argument is when I asked what constitutional authority gives you the power to tax the people...they said the 16th amendment. And at that they were only partially truthful. The 16th amendment did not give the government any additional powers of taxation. It stopped the indirect taxation of something that could only be directly taxed. It was drafted as a response to the Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Company (1895) case where the Government was thwarted from taxing someone's income without apportionment(two types of taxes in the USA...direct taxes with apportionment(taxes on rights) and indirect taxes no needing apportionment (taxes on a privileged action)). I would read it...not the wiki. Get to a law library and actually crack a book, or download the entire thing from westlaw(if you have access). Also, read the Brushaber, Stanton v. Baltic Mining Col and Bowers v. Kerbaush-Empire Co. (these are listed in chronological order). These cases reaffirmed that the government has no new powers of taxation.
Anyway, I could keep going, but as it is an entire wall of text, with lots to confirm for yourself, I shall leave you at that.

LOOK FOR THESE THINGS:
My letter had no partial of my SS number on it which caught my attention.
My letter had NO IRS logo on it or the envelop. Actual letters from the IRS do have the logo in both places.
My letter had an 800 number to call BUT it is not the 800 number for the IRS.
I caught it in time. Be one the look out for the fates.

Is was good to find this video to know the letter I got is legit. Well almost legit. Just like this video, nothing make sense. I did not claim a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC). My income is way below the $75,000 that they mentioned. I don't have any dependents and never listed any. So what does this letter have to do with me? It doesn't say if this does not pertain to you, ignore this letter. All this letter does is pave the way for more scammers to come on board. Expect more in the mail.

My tax preparer, with over 15 years H&R Block past experience, followed the IRS's own instructions to refund the taxes that were taken out of the stimulus payments. There are plenty of documents showing this as a contradiction of their own directions.

I have a friend who received one and they said his income was to high and he says he makes no were near to the dollar amount the IRS said he makes.
Yeah, that's what mine said, along with not having the information for my "qualifying dependent", which I don't have to begin with and never put down anyway. I did manage to get thru, after about an hour, and that was the most confusing conversation I have ever had in my life, it was like he was talking about something entirely different than I was. I ended up feeling like I'd been talking to some kind of robot, not much voice change, just almost monotone, no sense of humor, not that people working for the IRS would have one, but just something oddly unnerving about the vice. Still not sure what the heck is going on with the letter. Guess as long as they don't send me one saying I owe them money things will be ok???

You need to contact your congress person and ask them to help you get your refund. They have special liaisons to the IRS and can actually contact them.
If a person owes, a school debt, they will take the refund check until it's all paid for. They will also take the take the refund check, for back child support too and for back taxes also.

The letter I rec. Was a scam. It stated I failed to supply info on a dependent. I have none. I searched the ohine number with the word scam. And the FTC website stated it was a scam .

I finally got pissed and told her that I've had enough of her runaround bs and hung up on her. If you do get through to the irs, expect to be treated like you owed them and they don't make mistakes. I received a letter and tried to call everyday more than once a day last week. It said call volume was too high and I should call back. The letter says if you don’t object within 60 days they will consider the matter closed. I’m writing a letter since I’ll never get through in time.

You want to get the name of the 'man' or 'woman' you are corresponding with so you'll know who to hold personally liable for attempting to extort money out of you when you file a claim against them and drag their ass into court
If they respond with a name this time, and the same demands, send them another letter:
"Greetings! Thank you for your timely response, it is nice to be of your acquaintance, Bob Jones. If it is your belief I owe you a debt, please send me a bill with your signature to verify that debt and I will be more than happy to pay any money I may owe - John Doe"
End.
That will be the end of it, as he cannot verify you owe HIM anything, and his imaginary friend (IRS) cannot verify a debt, either.
If you owe Bob money, then Bob needs to send you a bill with his signature verifying the debt (True Bill) so you will know who to hold personally liable should that claim turn out to be false or inaccurate.

I'm certainly not trying to defend the IRS, but no matter how much an individual may pay in in taxes, the country as a whole is $28.8 trillion in debt. SO, basiclly the government spends more than it takes in, and it's been that way pretty much my whole life and I just turned 60. The only balanced budgets I ever recall were when Bill Cinton was in office. As it stands now, it's predicted that by 2035 social security will be completely gone since there is one wager earner for every retired and/or disagled person, and when SSA first started there were 6 wage earners for every retiree, and there was very few people on disability. Another fact, at least 25-30 states recieve far more federal aid each year than the governement ever takes in in federal taxes from those state. There's actually only about 10 states that pay about the same ammount of taxes as they recieve in federal money, and about 10 states that pay more than their share of the taxes. The rest are broke, lots of poverty (especially in the south) and some states get 15-20 times more back in federal aid than the the rest of the working class pay into the IRS to keep the governement and their states afloat.

Unfortunately, the first and third stimulus checks were automatically deposited into my account. I’m on social Security disability income. Something told me I should never have spent that money in the first place, just somehow I should’ve held onto it, even as I was losing my apartment. I did pay all of my bills, so I was able to keep my apartment for as long as possible, and I did not apply for emergency rental assistance, nor did I ever stop paying my landlord. And this is how I am repaid? This is how we the American people are repaid? Of course I’m not the only one that did the right thing and pay the bills. So with respect for those who just could not do it and had to apply for emergency rental assistance or go homeless, I was only very fortunate. I was able to pay my bills, and I respect that there are some who just could not pay their bills due to this silly little plandemic.
My son got one of those letters stating he made too much money and theres errors in his dependent information. He took it to his tax preparer. Weirdest letter Ive ever seen from them. It dont state what action they are going to take or anything? Just says you made too much money and you can appeal it? Yeah, I got this letter. One stimulus went to child support and I got the other two but no additional stimulus for any children. Now my check actually has garnished wages beginning with my most recent paycheck. So someone is definitely getting an ass chewing on the phone.
