Sean Bean and David Threlfall are superb in this
At 4:30 when she says I love you I'd have paid real money if he'd said "I know".
What movie is that line from? Fugitive?
@@reneadinaro8183 Empire Strikes Back
If you saw it in the theater, you did pay real money.
@@Killgore316 Paid.
This is the best Jack Ryan
They filmed this at the old Royal Naval College at Greenwich, a friend who there guiding turned up one day and found it set-dressed as a London street, with fake traffic lights, street lamps etc.
In the novel, the target of this attempted kidnapping is different. Instead of some lesser-known royal cousins, the targets are the Prince and Princess of Wales, and with the novel being published and set in the 1980s, this means that Jack Ryan saved Prince (now King) Charles and the late Princess Diana. It was partially inspired by the attempted kidnapping of Princess Anne in 1974, though that attempt was by a lone crazy man rather than any sort of terrorist plot.
I wonder if they'll ever adapt the movies where he becomes president.
I know that 9/11 kyboshed that but it's been almost 25 years, a large proportion of the audience weren't even born yet on that day.
The scene where Ryan became POTUS was a great two book series, totally awesome and above board, it's too bad Tom Clancy still isn't with us today, I'm sure he would be writing some seriously great stories
@@jamesalinio5277 It was a neat little scene in Executive Orders when Ryan has his first state dinner after becoming president. The Prince of Wales (Charles) is one of the guests and since they already know each other well, Ryan is able to confide a little bit in him on how unprepared and nervous he feels being president, and Charles offers some nice words of comfort and encouragement.
@HalfLifeExpert1 yeah, I was off a bit, thinking of a certain scene in a different book, it's been a while since I read the series
Sean Miller (Sean Bean) spent the rest of the movie pursuing his vendetta against Ryan which was hypocritical of him.
If he wanted his brother Paddy to be safe, he'd have never let him join the IRA, much less participate in attacking the Royal Family of England.
Bro, in a war, every participant is a soldier. And holding a vendetta against his killer was stupid
It's almost like people who think violence solves problems aren't far thinking geniuses.
Come all ye young rebels and list while I sing
For love of one's country is a terrible thing
It banishes fear like the speed of a flame
And it makes you a part of the patriot's game
You obviously dont have much experience with the Irish victim mentality. They can switch from poor downtrodden oppressed to brave freedom fighters in their own minds like they can dance on the head of a pin.
Holding a hypocritical grudge against others because one of theirs got what was coming to them is something they are EXTREMELY good at.
Yup. I thought that from the first time I saw the movie. Miller is such a bastard: "You killed my brother!" "Yeah, well you're the one who made him a terrorist, it's your fault asshole"
It's reflective of The Troubles itself: so much of the conflict was an endless series of blood feuds where one act of violence (justified or not) led to a cycle of retribution that escalated beyond all reason. The reason the conflict ended was because both sides finally recognized that further acts of injustice were not an atonement for what came before, and they led to no hope of a future or peace. Sean Bean's character's entire arc highlights the necessity of that shift, and what reality for the Irish looked like in its absence.
Sean Bean the most Yorkshire sounding Irishman I ever heard.
"We got the guns! We got the moh-neh!"
oh wait - wrong film!
Luckily, to an American southerner, they sound exactly alike.
He is from the full Monty setting: Sheffield
Ofc hed sound that way
Love Sean Bean and everything he has done. Lucky wife she met him on one of his movies....
Great scene but the irony of the killers being killed and then a great sense of injustice in Sean Bean's character the rest of the movie as he seeks revenge for his brother's death has always struck me as odd but most likely how it would play out in reality.
Sean Bean was just mad that he wasn't the one killed off early in the movie..

@@TheCoolCucumber very well said!
all you have to do is watch a few of the 'police body cam' videos that are all over this website, and you will see that most criminals are very much that stupid and prone to holding grudges for consequences they brought upon themselves.
pretty close to reality, i'd say.
I forgot how beautiful Anne Archer was.
Truth. She was an underrated hottie too.
Agreed; even at 45, Archer was radiant. The 1990s was chock full of beautifully mature actresses. Susan Kellermann was just.... _(chef's kiss)_
Don't care what you say,im a big Tom Clancy fan,i love his books and the movies,The Hunt for Red October was the best.😊
Clancy was a mediocre writer at best, and often an absolutely abysmal plotter.
I always liked Red Storm Rising
I haven't read that one, when I read Debt of honor years ago before 911,it was a great book, then 911 happened, it was almost like Clancy had predicted the future.
I used to be. But it was always a dream of what America was. That's been lost since 2016.
@@davidsmith385 Red Storm Rising is probably his best book. Highly recommend! It's not part of the Jack Ryan series. Just stands on it's own with a "What If" of WW3.
A great movie with a great story, cast, and screenplay.
Ann Archer what a woman.
Thanx. I am honored to count you as one of my fans.
@ 🥰
I brought up her name after several screentests of actresses to play Harrison's wife. At first it was dismissed. Than, brought back up.
@@dennispatrick4999 Thanks for your support. I wasn’t certain where my career was heading during those years yet I gave it my all for this audition and the rest is cinematic history.
@@345mrse Here to help.
Not me just realizing that the background music is the same from the Aliens film 😅
Pretty sure the last part was the theme from Harry's Game by Clannad
Because Irish are aliens. 🤣
@@sceiron1 When he's sat watching tv yes it's Harry's game by Clannad.. Great show from the early 80's I may add
@@shauntbarry It was indeed a great show, I recently found it on youtube and put it on my to be watched later, it's bloody yonks since I saw it so it will prewtty much new all over again.
Very true. That clip from Aliens keeps cropping up all the time.
"This is me holding my temper, Jimmy boy."
Sean Bean dies in this movie too. What a shocker. 😂😂
It wouldn't have been practical to film this actually at Buckingham Palace, so they shot it at the Naval Academy or whatever it's called in Greenwich instead, which looks similar.
0:34 Jack Ryan to the rescue
first time ive noticed sean beans characters name is also sean LOL
Starting at 3:06 isn’t that the music from the opening scene in Aliens? With the shuttle adrift.
No not even close
@ Actually it’s quite similar. Same string instruments hitting the same notes at the start.
0:41 Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst, is shooting at the terrorists to save the royal family
Yes, thank God you were able to figure that out by yourself.
😂😊😅😮
Pre CGI. Geez I miss these movies.
“I love you”….”I know”
Phillip Noyce was a very good action director
R.I.P James Earl Jones.
4:55 Baltus from the mummy returns
The only Jack Ryan movies I like are this and clear and present danger...
Guards dont carry live rounds.
Not unless there is a known threat (which in this scène there would not be so you are right) but they have bayonets And are not afraif to use them.
This film was far better then the second one, can watch this again and not get bored
*than
Hell no. Clear and Present Danger is probably the best Tom Clancy film adaption. Even the ambush scene is used as an actual training point for spec ops because of how well executed it was.
Actually:
1.)Hunt for Red October
2.)PATRIOT GAMES.
3.)Clear and Present Danger.
At 1:20 there is a a man running down the street seen though the window of the getaway car. Why is he running
Running away from the event.
There is no such thing as a "former" Marine...
Yes, they make this mistake even in real life. Retired is the corect term.
And, I know I'm gonna get flak for this, but technically, officers (lovingly referred to as zeros) are not Marines. They are officers of Marines. Marines come from MCRD Parris Island or San Diego. Officers come from Quantico or Annapolis.
And the rank that he was reported to be could not be a “Marine LT”.
The books make a point of mentioning that even after becoming president Ryan salutes the marines at the white house back because of training
A WWII marine veteran once told me the only former marines were dead ones.
That's a piss poor carbomb
How many have you made and used?
@dennispatrick4999 non.. but growing up in the 70s and 80s and watching news about the troubles in Ireland and seeing exactly what happens when a car bomb goes off multiple times. May not make me an expert but certainly informed enough to know the difference between a lack luster Hollywood effect and the real thing
The book they attack Prince Charles and his family.
Yes, it was changed for obvious reasons
2:50 - Malaysia and Turkey embassy
Damn, I wish they give this movie book-accurate ending....
I also wish to see the whole Ryan-verse on screen, espeically the double whammy Debt of Honor and Executive Order.
Compared to the book , this movie is horrible! I once heard that Tom Clancy himself hated the way Harrison Ford portrayed Jack Ryan.
With the exception of Red October, this is the most faithful of all the adaptations. Also Tom Clancy lost his mind when the Cold War ended.
so why are you wasting time then?
Tom Clancy forgot the first rule of selling a book to Hollywood. Forget it, it isn't your story anymore.
Stephen King tells that to writers who sell their books to be screen plays.
Regardless, the casting was awesome. Sean Bean won his acting chops here.
The books will always be better.
I've just finished reading The Sum of All Fears. That was miles better than film. I've read Patriot Games and Red October too. Red October is my favourite of the adaptations and whenever I read Jack Ryan story I always picture Alec Baldwin as Jack.
Reading Clear and Present Danger next.
Sad silly pointless how wars are often fought between people who look the same!
What? Are the ones between people who don’t look similar less pointless? And you clearly don’t know the history of Britain and Ireland if you think that
Ahh yes! Back when the average joe could be a hero out of fear before Hollywood started the cliche of action heroes who had empty military files, mysterious backgrounds, few records and were muscled enough to beat any six men. Hollywood has played that cliche to the bitter end. It was nice when you could put yourself in Jack Ryans shoes, not knowing what was going on, only getting involved out of fear for your loved ones safety. Harrison Ford did it best.
Now if Hollywood would just kill off the old and tired cliche of buddy cop movies where you have 2 male cops, one younger one older a few weeks from retirement and the younger one wanted to prove himself, both getting called into the police captains office 4 times during the movie to get yelled at, told of the cost in dollars of the destruction they caused and then warned only to have their gun and badge taken and placed on mandatory vacation where they continue to investigate a crime off the books on their own time, etc., etc., etc. We movie fans have had to deal with the 'Lethal Weapon' cliche for over 30 years now..... time for Hollywood to give it a rest and actually come up with something new.
Feel better now?
You must have missed Without Remorse. My favorite one of all the TC books, and they butchered the movie. I do not care who plays the ‘good guy’ just stick to the book framework.
Same here. I loved that story. I refuse to watch the movie.
to think.. in just a few short years he would go on to betray frodo and die at the hands of orcs.
back when Ford was OK
The book was better.
book is GREAT
The IRA sympathising is nauseating.
Although I haven't watched this video before one thing I noticed very fast was there accent, it's Irish, and this video involves NORTHERN IRELAND, VERSUS THE REST OF IRELAND, and years ago I talked to people from Ireland and the major problem is RELIGION, you have the protestations against the CATHOLICS, but it's still within CHRISTIANITY, and the guy who said that this clip is a SHAME,NO,you are wrong, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, how there's a big difference between religious beliefs ,it goes much deeper than you can think ,that's why it the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES it states that there's a pure separation of CHURCH AND STATE, GET YOUR FACTS TOGETHER, MY MAN OR SHOULD I CALL YOU BUDDY,VIETNAM ERA VETERAN.I SERVED,DID YOU? DURING VIETNAM.
All very stereotypical, but the so called lady reporter slipped up with, loo-tenant rather than the British left-tenant pronunciation.
This might have been the best of the series, until the boat chase. Kind of ruined it for me.
HK pistol
The film does well until its stupid climax. It's also so well directed and then performed by Harrison Ford that it turns the Irish Troubles into a Hollywood Movie and nobody cares.
Alt title for the clip: "American tourist experienced free health care after reckless decision on the streets of London".
The US Embassy in London sent over a US Military Doctor and Team; because Jack Ryan was told it be one month to get an appointment.
😂😊😅😮

Funny how Jack Ryan, an author and professor, always finds himself in the middle of these violent international political scuffles.
It's called fiction.
@ No. Really? My whole world is shattered now.
They don't make movies like these anymore, what a shame, now only woke and dammed CGI
