    Great video, I bought this bike and I love it.
    I'm an old bloke at 57 and its a soft ride down hill and it firms up on the climb.
    I have been riding since my 20s and this is by far the most fun Ive had on a bike.

      Couldn't agree more, it's the most fun bike I've ever owned. Hopefully I'm still shredding bikes like this at 57!

    Hi mate, awesome riding, you make this those descent very easy compared to my enduro bike. Would you recommend this to shortish person like 5"6.5' or 169cm?
    p.s. I have to keep on watching the first part repeatedly just to watch your line. Smooth!!

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I really love this bike for the local spots, but I also have a bigger enduro bike for shuttles and bike park. The great thing about Norco is they change the chainstay length for each size, so you always have the same balance regardless of size. For your height they recommend a medium so I'd say go for it if you're in the market and it suits your riding. I've had another month on the bike since shooting this and I'm loving it even more as time goes on.

    Oh man, you have some great trails in Sutherland. When it's a bit easier to get around there, I will bring my Ragley Blue Pig up and have a play. Looks just so great, and you really display it well.
    You'll have to bring the Optic down to Canberra sometime too. Would be a ball on Skyline at Stromlo!

      Whoa that's a serious hardtail, you'll have fun on that up here! I'm definitely looking forward to ripping the Optic around Stromlo, should be there for the Superflow round provided we aren't in lockdown. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed.

    New Sub, your channel is perfect for learning places to ride around Aus.
    I am based in Canberra and have had a 2020 Norco Fluid FS1 for 6 months. Very happy with its performance around the green and blue tracks around Stromlo and Tuggeranong however I am looking to ride Thredbo and any other places I visit for a weekend.
    The Optic is a bike I am looking at potentially getting in the future as an upgrade or something along the lines of a YT Jeffsy or Canyon Spectral. Any thoughts on the amount of travel needed for Thredbo or even Stromlo as I progress?

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for subscribing 🙌Your'e so lucky with all the great riding that you have access too from Canberra! I really like the Optic for the riding you're talking about, I can't wait to get mine down to Stromlo. That said, an all mountain bike like the Norco Sight or the Jeffsy you mentioned might be a better choice as the extra travel over the Optic will allow you to ride it in more places, while still being enjoyable on mellower trails. Happy riding 👍

    Great vid Craig, did you go with the sizing suggested by Norco? They suggest XL for my 185cm but looking at the geo I though Large looked closer to what I would have though. Cheers

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Matt, I'm 183 so they say I could ride either L or XL. I went with the large, and run a 50mm stem with 35mm rise bars and I'm really happy with the fit so I'd say you could do the same. The XLs are very big bikes and I really didn't want such a long wheelbase for my trail bike.

    • @empmw
      @empmw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m 188, riding an XL, feels very stable. I could probably ride an L for more flickability.

    Would love to hear about the changes you’ve made to your bike, i noticed some of the higher tier 2021 optics now come with the fox 36 too.

      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2021 builds look amazing. I will hopefully do a bike check video soon but I'm not sure I can do it justice with my filming just yet. As I said in another comment, I swapped the whole build with my last bike so I could sell that, but I have some interesting touches to share.

    • @Andrew.B121
      @Andrew.B121 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed the OneUp EDC, is that with the OneUp stem? And did you go 35mm or 50mm long? Cockpit looks mint with the bars and grips

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Andrew.B121 thanks man, yeah I'm so happy with the cockpit setup! I've got the EDC tool in there with the OneUp 50mm stem, but I've tapped the steerer because the stem preload thing looks a little fiddly to me. The bars are 35mm rise as well. Since my last reply I've planned out a pretty detailed bike check so I should have that filmed in the coming weeks 👍

    Excellent review! If you could only keep your enduro bike and one other bike, would you take the Optic or your hardtail?

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tough choice! Either would be fine but I'd probably keep the Optic because it's the most versatile. If I only had the hardtail I would be looking for ways to lighten up the enduro bike which kind of defeats the purpose of it

    • @mattschirle
      @mattschirle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTBMcPhee Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at now. I've got an enduro bike and a hardtail and kind of feel like I wish I had something in between. I'll definitely have to try to get my hands on an Optic to demo. Thanks!

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattschirle yeah the trail bike definitely lets you make your enduro more ENDURO! There are plenty of good options in the trail category now but after 6 months I'm still in love with my Optic

    • @mattschirle
      @mattschirle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTBMcPhee Good to hear. The Optic seems like it hits the sweet spot for me in terms of geo and amount of travel, but there are a few others on my short list too. Shit's been crazy this year and bikes are sold out everywhere, but hopefully I can get on some demos next year.

      Check out if there are any facebook groups for riders in Brisbane. I joined one of those when I was starting out and jumped on a few rides, that's how I learned the different riding spots. Optic and Sight would both be excellent choices for what you described, the Optic would be more fun on mellower trails while the Sight will be the most versatile for technical/steep/fast riding.

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I should have covered that in the video! It's an awesome tool, initially I found the setup too soft but then I changed the offset switch to offset 2 and the shock setup is perfect now. Overall, this has been the easiest bike I've ever set up.

    • @thegriff9425
      @thegriff9425 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Craig McPhee MTB thanks for the great reply. I hear mixed reviews on the ride aligned. I assume you are on the C3? Have you changed anything, eg the brakes and rotors? I have a Trek Slash and Nukeproof Hardtail which is amazing. It would be a toss up between those bike and the anukeproof Reactor... not many good aggressive bikes in this short travel category.

    Me: I've finally made a decision to replace my stolen bike I'm getting the optic
    "If could only have one bike it would be the sight"
    Back to square one I go

    • @MTBMcPhee
      @MTBMcPhee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear your bike got stolen! Now that I have a Sight as well as the Optic I can say that the difference is bigger than I had expected. The Sight rides bigger, so for many trails the Optic is the better and more fun bike.
      If you want the bike that's best for the majority of riding and you're happy to go a bit slower when you ride bigger terrain then go with the Optic, while if you want a bike that has your back in the gnar and you don't mind pushing a bigger heavier bike around on flat trail then go the Sight. They're both great bikes so there's no wrong choice.
