I’m so glad you mentioned bees. I have been concentrating on replacing non-natives in my small suburban yard, and it is making a difference. I was so delighted to see native bees on a newly installed anise hyssop, planted right up against the street, yet still attracting bees right up trill November.
Anise hyssop is an amazing native plant LOVED by pollinators and birds! It blooms forever and is the plant that got me into landscaping with natives. When I saw the life it brought to my landscape I was sold! Thank you for watching!
Thanks ladies! - I’m def adding native shrubs in front of the foundation in Spring … just need to decide- def Shrubby St Johns Wort…and… I’ll think on the other in January!
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, deer will eat almost anything if they are hungry enough. However, there are definitely some species that they don't favor. We will be doing a future presentation more deer resistant native shrubs in the future. Check out our previous presentation "Deer Resistant native Plants for Urban Landscapes".
It's really interesting to me how he Spring and Summer fruiting plants usually have high sugar content while the Fall fruiting ones have high fat content. This works to support both the Spring needs for stable bird populations and in the Fall the high fat provides the energy the migratory ones need. Your up front summary screens don't mention when the fruit appears, although it is covered really well in follow on slides. This would be good information in the summary slide for folks planning to support the the full annual cycle in limited space.
@@sagmorainenativeplantcommunity Oh, I would love to see that one! I've built a personal spreadsheet to track all sorts of things. But then I'm a spreadsheet freak, as my co-workers used to call me, LOL.
Viburnums and dogwoods are great options for self fertilization. For a small urban backyard a black chokeberry is a must! Check out our video "Native Shrubs For Small Spaces".

I love it! We are planning to discuss keeping a bloom calendar in an upcoming presentation!
The cecropia moth caterpillar is large! I'm glad that you are bringing up these shrubs since I am trying to attract this exact species. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Good luck atteacting the cecropia moth. We would love to see photos if you are successful!
@@sagmorainenativeplantcommunity Will do.
