- Pulitzer-Prize winner Bob Woodward says he had “never seen such a failure to protect the people” until his reporting on President Trump’s handling of Covid. The Washington Post journalist did 20 interviews with Trump as President, and in this special edition of “The Beat,” he talks to Ari Melber about what came through in those candid conversations as the pandemic first hit. I was an American living in China in 2020. It was VERY serious in January for us. And I’d watch the US news and Trump would talk about it in January as if he had everything under control. Flights started to get canceled and my parents were calling me EVERYDAY, telling me to come home. I left China on February 3rd because the Consulate told us it was best for us to go back home. On arrival, I was not tested for covid; they didn’t even test my temperature. I was SHOCKED and afraid that I might be infected so I decided to quarantine myself for 2 weeks before I went to my family. While I watched the US news from China, Trump talked a big game. But when I arrived home, I saw absolutely ZERO action. This absolutely could’ve been handled differently; but I’m not surprised Trump acted in a selfish and immature way.
I knew he didn’t care and I think he wanted to do this to us since we hate him.

BREAKING NEWS: Woodard has been at the center of every controversy that diluted/ended a sitting Presidents term. When Nixon agreed to pull out of Vietnam Woodard was there to get Nixon impeached. When Reagan agreed to get rid of Nukes Woodard was there with Iran Contra. When Trump agreed to pull out of Syria Woodard was there with Russia/Ukraine gate. WOODARD is a creation/tool of the DEEP STATE. Always somehow has high up secret informants.
Geopolitical consequences of Woodard's reporting
(1) Breaking of the Paris Peace accord and subsequent mass murder of 5 Million Asians in South East Asia.
(2) Stalling of Nuclear Treaties and subsequent reinvigoration of Nuclear Arms race.
(3) Redeployment of troops to Syria and Expansion of NATO and war in Eastern Europe.
Look up the word "cogent". From Woodward whose only claim to fame was Watergate two generations ago.
This is one of the absolute BEST interviews I've heard Thank you Ari and Mr Woodward.
Everyone needs to remember that there was a pandemic response playbook that the Obama Administration developed and put into place with a response team.
They went over the pandemic response with the Trump Administration. Once Trump took office he dismantled the pandemic response team along with the protocols in the pandemic response playbook.

Thank you. I’m listening to this for the second time today. I appreciate the way you’ve put historical context along with the interview. Now when we are all absorbing the depth of Trump’s criminality in light of the 4 indictments, it is good to be reminded of his callous, self serving response to the Covid crisis. It is important to view ex-President Trump’s dealings across the board and reinforce the fact that he is in every situation for himself, only.

That is because despite spending all of his first three years boasting about the healthy economy he inherited as if he was the reason for it, he put the health of the economy and his re-election chances ahead of the health of the people.
If like Trump, he put all of his eggs in one basket and that was the only good thing he had to talk up, he would not want to do anything and take measures that might be to the good overall but to the detriment to that one good thing, as that was all he had.
The ultimate irony is his actions (or lack of) still tanked the economy anyway and cost him the 2020 election, yet one million Americans had to needlessly die for him to find out that would be the case.

He promised to make America energy independent and he did, he promised open up coal mines in Pensilvania ( creating thousands of jobs ) and he did, he promised to move US Embassy to Jerusalem and he did ( Obama and the rest of them promised that too but didn't have a stomach to comply with campaign promises), he promised to stop illegal immigration and he did, and vetting process was moved to Mexico. He promised to make economy prosperous and he did, He dismantled ISIS ( created by Obama ) as he said he would. He rebuilt military putting them on a new level and have created a Space force ( China and Russia full steam ahead with Space force and Biden canceled that). He asked NATO members to do 2% of the GDP as they supposed to and they did except Germany and we all see now how right he was. The most impressive achievement of a Biblical proportion is an Abraham accord in the Middle East creating a peace in the region and nominated for Nobel peace Prize ( I think two times). If Obama ( who I voted twice for, has sent convoy to the Middle East led by Senator Mitchell who came back empty handed) did third of it not to mention half of it Democrats and Medea and you too would call him Greatest President ever but he didn't. President Trump did. Did I mention record unemployment for all of the minorities in this country? He stopped N Korea testing nuclear weapon and made them to meet with S Korea for the first time in history of both Koreas ( absolutely remarkable achievement in foreign policies) He did every campaign promise in spite of being harassed , openly sabotaged and chased by all of the Media, Big Tech, hostile Congress and everybody else who wasn't lazy on the daily bases with one purpose only to bring him down. The most honest and effective President by far.
I personally didn't need to hear this. He took no action to this debilitating virus at all what so ever. And slept like a baby every single night. Totally apathetic.

At around 7 minutes, 29 into the video, Trump makes a huge confession: "I don't care." This one phrase speaks volumes about him and should not be ignored or forgotten by any American. I have heard the Trump Tapes and would recommend every American listens to the Bob Woodward audiobook that covers the recordings.

Thank you, Ari, for allowing Mr. Woodward the time required to explain everything fully. I get impatient with the way Ari interrupts interviewees before they can finish their thoughts, or stops them so he can throw in some rap trivia, but this was a fine, thorough interview. I've heard Bob Woodward on quite a few programs, and this one was really helpful in my understanding of the tapes.

Thanks for spending time on the topic of Trump's handling of the pandemic. I think (with the fact that we'd all like to forget about it) we tend to overlook the utter failure of the Trump White House as regards this topic. It tends to get drowned out by the myriad other trials he faces.

I had heard some of these tapes quite some time ago and as horrified disgusted and at that time shocked (nothing about t rump shocks me now) I thought people have to hear this! People have to see the total disregard for humanity that trump had and has. I'm so glad you had Bod Woodward on tonight and I REALLY REALLY hope that anyone who doesn't know the truth will have this open their eyes. The idea of him being anywhere near the oval office again makes my blood run cold. If you take the lives lost and multiple that by the loved ones left behind.....the damage to people that trump caused is beyond anything we've ever seen. It didn't have to be like this! A great clip for the Lincoln Project to frequently show. That's for sure. As for Trump's attitude and acts, I don't know if I'm surprised but not shocked OR shocked by not surprised. I knew way back in 2015 that anybody who humiliates and punches down on the vulnerable in callous, cruel ways (ugly name-calling,etc) is eventually going to dish out a raw deal to YOU. It may not be as blatantly humiliating as toward his original less powerful targets but it will not be a pleasant experience. That's exactly what we're seeing here folks - one of many raw deals dished out (or allowed to happen) to the country that voted for him.
Every one of us has now endured a national tragedy and we continue to suffer from a form of PTSD. Millions died, our economic security was threatened, and meanwhile we were abandoned by our government.

I was shocked to hear the tape of trump. He seemed so callous, and self-absorbed about how the virus would make him look -- not caring that people were literally dying just outside the White House -- because of his lack of concern & abrogation of his duties.

"Narcissistic Personality" is only one facet of Trump's psychopathology, better gathered under the umbrella of "Borderline Personality Disorder", including paranoid, sociopathic, grandiose, narcissistic, sadistic, impulsive, splitting, and post-traumatic traits. And that's from a retired psychiatrist who has read everything written about Trump's life history and psychological development, and current behavior. Trump has the underlying character structure of a 2yo, arrested at the time of his sudden abandonment by his dying mother, at the time of his younger brother Robert's birth, when all of the families' attention was directed at their seriously ill mother/wife and newborn 5th child, not little Donny, the 4th born 2yo. Sadly, this part of Trump's story is never told on the MSM, nor is his ongoing paranoia and delusional worldview.

Woodward’s a national icon, and he should have received the highest civilian honor we have simply for his and Carl Bernstein’s exposure of the Watergate BS, but Woodward has written honestly in books about every president since then and they obviously didn’t appreciate him. He’s never even won a Pulitzer, if you can believe it, only contributed twice to stories that won, if I remember correctly. Ben Bradlee called him the best investigative reporter he’d ever worked with or even seen. I was 12 when I watched the Watergate hearings and when Nixon resigned, and 15 when I first read, “All the President’s Men,” which I highly recommend if you’ve not read it, and Woodward has been a kind of idol to me ever since because I could feel his honesty and integrity, even at the age of 12.

Manhattan and other metropolitan medical facilities were jam-packed with refrigerator trailer rigs full of bodies and l wonder if he even gave it any thought, in depth. I don't think so, because all he still cares about, still to this day are the polls or polling.

He asked NATO members to do 2% of the GDP as they supposed to and they did except Germany and we all see now how right he was. The most impressive achievement of a Biblical proportion is an Abraham accord in the Middle East creating a peace in the region and nominated for Nobel peace Prize ( I think two times). If Obama ( who I voted twice for, has sent convoy to the Middle East led by Senator Mitchell who came back empty handed) did third of it not to mention half of it Democrats and Medea and you too would call him Greatest President ever but he didn't.
