      The lower the LLC the better. But it's often better to have a higher LLC and lower voltage, if the voltage delta is big. And it generally is quite sizeable.

    I bought an x5650 for $9 and an motherboard for it for $190. I was able to overclock it to 3.8 GHz, but that's as far as she goes without crashing during long gameplay. Still runs games good (especially for the price!!!), but I'm disappointed with the 3.8 (I want at least 4 GHz).
    If I get an x5670/75/80/90, will I be able to get a better overclock? Thanks for this video man.

      That's a great deal price-performance wise! I am 100% sure that your CPU can do 4.2Ghz with decent cooling man. Have you followed my guide? I think the problem lies in RAM OC and RAM related settings, namely the QPIs, try double chwecking does and the secondary settings. Anyway, the best CPU for this socket is the X5675 in my opinion, since every one of them does 4.4Ghz and most do 4.5Ghz!

      3.8 is very underwhelming 😒
      I can send you my settings for 4.4 on x5650 if you're still running it... Although I have NH D15 keeping it cool. I know from experience that a lesser cooler will struggle to get close to a 4.0.

      I personally think that AT LEAST 4Ghz can be achieved on pretty much every one of these xeons tbh

      I would pump up your voltage.
      I'm running my W3690 on 4.6Ghz on 1.51 voltage.
      And it has been running for more than 2 years without degrading.
      I have also an x5675 (i'm experimenting with several cpu's) overclocked to 5Ghz using 1.61v.
      Yes that is high, but my the cpu seems to be manage it, ands the max temp is arround 80 Celcius.
      But that is only short peakes.
      And also at this moment there is no degradation.
      And even if will be degradaging, the cpu's are very cheap.
      the x5675 is just about 10 Euro's or 11 Dollars.

    QPI is important on x58,its not worth running your 6 core xeon or i7 990x at 4.8GTs or lower to get 200Mhz extra on the core,my 990x can still do 4.8Ghz at 1.46vcore with the a little over stock QPI 6.8ish because I used a mix of BCLK and multi that raise the QPI just a little over the stock 6.4GTs an thats after 10 years of serving as a backup PC. Lower the QPI to 4.8 I can get 5.0Ghz but the proformance is lost in real world workloads like gaming. Uncore clocks can have a huge impact as well,I've seen higher gains @ 4.6Ghz with a 3.8Ghz uncore vs 4.8Ghz core with a lower uncore of 3.2Ghz or around there.

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's definitely true! But I'd still start as shown in the video to find the max stable frequency: then I'd just tune QPIs and Uncore accordingly
