  • Silver Lake is a great day hike that meanders through groves of aspens, meadows and over clear mountain streams. To get to Silver Lake Trail take I-15 to the Alpine exit. Head East up American Fork Canyon (Uinta National Forest) until you get to the fork in the road. Take the left fork heading to Tibble Fork Reservoir.

Once at Tibble Fork take the paved road headed north. You'll know your on the right road as it winds up high in the canyon with several switch backs. This road will take you to Sliver Flat Lake. Once at Silver Flat Lake you will find a small parking area with outhouses. The trail head is to the north of the parking lot. Hiking the Sliver Lake Trail will take you into the Loan Peak Wilderness area. The trail is 3.0 to 4.0 miles long and is well marked by the National Forest Service. The start of the trail takes you through groves of quaking aspen and mountain streams. The trail continues to climb steadily. After completing several switch backs you come to the steepest part of the trail (about 1/3 mile) then you reach the lake.
    Thank you for watching.

I really like the views you get hiking this trail. Especially when there's a little snow like that. Good job Landing a couple fish too!

Is the trailhead accessible in the winter? Do you need to drive on dirt roads to get to the trailhead?

From the Tibble Fork parking lot you have to drive on the dirt road to the Sliver Flat Reservoir. This is where to trail head begins to Sliver Lake. With the recent storm this road is probably closed and impassable in a vehicle.

Thanks for this tip. That makes sense. From the parking lot, how long is the road to the trailhead? Maybe if it is only one mile, we can just walk to the trail head from the parking lot?
