  • A few years ago, I noticed that one of my Minecraft single player worlds hadn't been opened since 2012. I decided then that I would wait until 2022 to revisit it. Join me on a trip down memory lane as we explore what Minecraft was like a decade ago, and see some of the things I made when I was still learning to play the game.

You're definitely not the only non Minecraft TH-camr that Minecraft helped you to where you were. It's crazy when you look back at people's first video, how many of them are Minecraft. Even for the biggest creators, like Mr. Beast and PewDiePie, a lot of TH-camrs got their start with Minecraft. I remember in December, TH-cam even had that special thing to honor Minecraft because it had reached 1 trillion views; the total influence of Minecraft on TH-cam is insane.

I don't know what exactly made me think about this video, what exactly made me come back to it, and urged me to make a comment.
I just suddenly recalled this video, how interesting it was, and thought I ought to come back.
These time capsules are amazing, because, unlike our usual time capsules we make where we hand pick things to curate what we find in the future, things we deem special at the time, this is almost the "Truest" time capsule one can have, almost like old recordings from the very early 1900's.
You're not just opening a time capsule you want to show yourself, you're popping open, effectively, a snapshot into your life.
What were you thinking when you did this? How did you feel when you did that? Why does this cause such huge nostalgia and vivid memories? How come I forgot that?
We may never even think of these things, or if we do it's so broad and blurry that we can hardly define any bit of it if put on the spot, but here, seeing it, it sparks every memory, every feeling, every desire that developed from these worlds.
Do we remember the last time we logged into these worlds? Did we know that'd be a last time?
It's the most candid, true, look into our past that we can really give ourselves.
It's a great venture, it was fun to experience what you experienced going through this video.

I think I lost the save file on an old computer anyway, tragically, but I've still got pictures I used to demo my old texture pack up on PlanetMinecraft. This is by far one of my fav minecraft videos out there. It's kind of the point of growing up with minecraft imo, to just mess around and create -- even if it doesn't necessarily look good. And the random world where you're just in creative and messing around with the new stuff. I've been playing for as long as I can remember, with the earliest update I remember being the 1.4 update 10 years ago, although I do remember being very young and coming across my first Birch Tree. But I can relate so much to this video, especially the bit where you have specific songs and memories related to your world. I remember listening to a lot of Owl City music while playing mc, so now all i can remember is minecraft when i play his music. I have music related to certain games I played on Roblox, too. It's crazy how the brain works with things like that. Anyways, I loved this video and it made me realize how such an iconic game minecraft is for multiple generations now of kids and people.

I started playing Minecraft in late 2013 / early 2014. But that would be super cool to revisit an old world of mine ten years down the road. I believe that my oldest Minecraft saves are still on my old phones/tablets, just have to do a little digging.

Kinda makes me want to attempt something similar, albeit it’s harder since I mostly played with modpacks so I can’t just import them into newer versions.

I'm glad you uploaded this video, it's great to see old worlds that you created a long time ago. Now that I think about it...Minecraft really is a great game and there are so many reasons why millions of people love it. 👍

It's an interesting feeling looking back at really old Minecraft worlds. I remember when I first started playing when it was still purchaseable for something like pay what you want... Like back in 2010 or sometime around then. I kept some of my worlds for a while. But by now the game has changed so much, and I've gone through several computers. My first worlds long gone...
It's really neat to see a glimpse into your designs and thought processes from long ago. I'd love to see you do Minecraft as survival or building now.

I've only ever played it on mobile until a few months ago when I found the 3DS version in a thrift store and then my niece and nephew got it on their Switches so I bought the Switch version so we could all play together.

Thought I'd share my "Minecraft History"
Minecraft is childhood magic to me, lol.
I first played on my iPod Touch 4th generation in 2011, after a friend from school was talking about it. I thought it was called "mind craft".
Minecraft LITE. (I later bought the app and have both installed)
I was a total noob, building dirt huts on the river until a creeper blew me up and I discovered cobblestone.
After awhile a got Java in 2013 on my mother's laptop, I still remeber thinking I won an iPad because of a scam ad pop-up trying to download Java on internet explorer with about five "extra toolbars installed". I was 12 ok..
Eventually, being a 9-year-old (and crappy accessories, where'd you jam your iPod into a speaker station) the charging port became messed up. It was damaged and no matter what cable I bought wouldn't charge it. It had a few bent pins.
Fast forward 11 years my family bought a car what had a cord for it. It was for the car's media center with specifc end for it. It was just thicker and a bit larger to have more friction to fit? (Maybe something with ac/dc current?)
So here I was sitting on the car, applying slight upward pressure and constant force into this iPod. *To my great astonishment the display lights up*.
    It. Was. Charging.
Five minutes later, I see I have worlds. My very first creative world. Where I built houses, stacked on top of each other out of blocks I didn't even know the names of. The world where I mined my very first dirt block.. where I had a house of dirt on the river. That night I had about 3 minutes of play on my ancient worlds. **It was glorious.**
Now whenever I go on a drive and feeling nostalgic I can just charge up the iPod. I've not found a way to backup my worlds off the iPod because no other cord works, and the pins.
Even then, would I really want it any other way.
Would it spoil the magic if it weren't on this 3.75 in screen where my thumbs take up most of it?

Thank you for making this video. It was really cool seeing another UTuber come from a minecraft background and still have all the old worlds and showing them off. PLEASE release the unreleased videos!!!! Please!
Also, would you consider zipping up the worlds into a ZIP file and distributing for the rest of us to faff about in? I know most of them are baren, but it's interesting to see others work and not be an amazing archetect. Just someone that used to play and have fun, what differences there are, what was persued first in crafting and what differences as far as survivor skills...
Just a thought, Also would like to see your old channel, or will be going back to your first videos here just to see the history of your channel now. Everyone hates their first videos, who cares? I know what I'm getting into, lol. Thanks Michael.

It's definitely, like you said, an "old friend" type of game. I know a ton of people who stop playing it for months, years, then go back to it for about a month or so, then stop playing it for a while and then, the cycle continues. I don't know how the game does it, but it just does.
