    This year I did my Slinging Pumpkin Challenge with this staff sling. So if you want to see it in action, you can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/a7gtLZcyFSE/w-d-xo.html.

    The most beautiful staff sling I’ve seen but man, that could of been a good crossbow prod or bow

      Yeah, you're not wrong. 🙂
      I do have a yew longbow that I made. The stave used in this video has been waiting around for a long time, so I wasn't too worried about going the staff sling route. I'm not sure when I'll get around to making a bow again, but I have lots of other staves when it does happen.
      Cheers man! Thanks! 👍

    Hey Joe! Nice to meet a fellow Yinzer on TH-cam! I live in Oregon now but I grew up back there. That sling is pretty cool. I bet that had some serious intimidation factor even if it didn't have too much range. Something to think about having giant stones raining down on ya!

    Can you make a small, one-hand staff sling and whip some tennis balls into the Diana?

      @joe_meadmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've touched on something I'm making that's in very early stages. Not a one-handed staff sling specifically, but something along that line. I don't want to say too much and spoil the surprise.
      But yeah, I might be able to work in a single hander. I actually have a short handle I've been wanting to turn into a staff sling. I just need to make the staff head.

    I prefer the staff to be shorter, mine are from the ground to the start of my breast bone and the length of sling is about 12” so it’s quite short. So it releases the stone earlier sending it higher into the air which increases the distance. A long sling releases the stone later sending into the ground.

      I generally agree. The length of this staff sling ended up being what it was because of the length of the stave. I wasn't sure how long I would ultimately want it, so I basically kept the entire length. If there's some extra length, you can always choke up a bit. No argument either with a shorter sling giving a higher release angle. I did end up shortening the sling a little. The intention of this sling was to make this video: th-cam.com/video/a7gtLZcyFSE/w-d-xo.html. Which I certainly recommend checking out if you haven't seen it yet.
      Cheers man! 👍

    the staff is too long. needs to be about 50 to 60 inches long. then you can get distance

    • @joe_meadmaker

      I'm afraid I have to disagree with that. My staff sling experience is pretty limited. I've only worked with 4 or 5 staff slings. But I've found that the length of the sling is much more important for distance because that's what controls the angle of release (for the most part). As far as speed is concerned, it's only about how fast you can get the staff moving forward. Regardless of whether it's long or short, the faster it's moving, the faster the projectile is moving. So the optimum staff length will be different for everyone based on strength, height, etc.
      Something else to mention is the staff in this video wasn't built for high speed or distance. It was made to throw large and heavy projectiles. If you haven't seen the pumpkin video, I recommend it: th-cam.com/video/a7gtLZcyFSE/w-d-xo.html. That video shows exactly what this staff sling was made to do, and it did it very well.
      Another point on the staff length, if a staff is a little too long for the projectile you're slinging, you can just choke up on it a bit. I actually do that in the pumpkin video. If you have any data on the 50 to 60 inch staff claim, I would be happy to see it. But in my experience, there are a lot more variables to account for than just the staff length.
