    Love this solo and you explained that run better than anyone I have seen on TH-cam. Steve Lukather is the high exalted mystic ruler of the ‘80s pop guitar solo 🎸 👍

    Major props Ben for recognizing Lukather's brilliance, most metal fans close their minds to the genius of bands like Toto, a band that just played their 40th anniversary tour in 2018. Won't see 99% of the metal bands reach 20 let alone 40 years

      I've just never heard that word used to describe Luke, before. Everyone I know thinks he's an amazing world class player.

    • @pjg238
      @pjg238 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, interesting, i'm not around other guitar players much so I don't hear that very often from other people but wish i did, he deserves the credit. But like Ben said (he used the word 'underrated' too), Steve should receive more appreciation and be mentioned more when people talk about the best guitar players out there; in my experience, his name doesn't always (but it has) come up when other people discuss that topic. I guess that because we're both exposed to different people lol.

      @@pjg238 He's extremely well known in the recording industry.... Toto wasn't that huge in america, and far more popular overseas. But just take a look at his resume.... It's endless. The amount of stuff that guy has played on over the years is mind boggling. And he's come up with some of the most memorable riffs and leads, and has more album credits than I can count. Everyone from Cher, to Elton John, to Eric Clapton, to Michael Jackson..... Just take a look at the collaborations list on the page below....... His name isn't as popular as say an "Eddie Van Halen", but in the music world, as a studio musician, and among almost all players and producers, he's considered one of the best in the world.

    Thanks, Ben! This was the first guitar competition I've ever done, and I hope there are more to come. Becoming more involved in the online guitar community has really opened my eyes to how much phenomenal talent there is out there, and where I really sit in regards to playing ability, but I know that being humbled and inspired in that manner is only going to make me step up my own game

  • @genuine0

    I have seen so many tutorials online, yours is perhaps one of the best, however for some beginners, it's not so much the "notes and the run" that they are finding difficult, the people I spoke to over the years, all had the timing issue, the real tempo, for those who don't realise is that it's slightly off-beat, an experienced musician / guitarist, wouldn't even notice it, but a learner will find it extremely difficult to synchronise with the end of the solo and the drum downbeat. (Just for what it's worth) But Ben's tutorial is one of the best.

      @@genuine0 The solo is pretty hard, it has some fast parts

    • @atarijam
      @atarijam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jurajzembjak9721 Not as hard as it sounds. It is basically fast 3nps runs towards the end which are heavily palm-muted. Managed to play it after 1 week practicing it, and the hardest part was stitching all the phrases together, really, since it has about 15 of them.

    • @jurajzembjak9721
      @jurajzembjak9721 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@atarijam Yes I agree that the ending can be done with practice, but it for sure isn’t dead easy as Genuine Dawah said. Also, what I forgot to mention was the monstrous vibrato Steve Lukather does on that solo, very hard to replicate, David Escobar here on YT did the closest approach to original IMHO

    • @atarijam
      @atarijam 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jurajzembjak9721 none of lukather's solos are easy. Even the 4 bar solo on Rossana is difficult to replicate cos his vibrato is groovy and phrasing is swing. As for tabs, I recommend Carl Brown version. If I remember well, the Escobar version of Hold the Line was not accurate and had trouble to play it along the original

    I had a video lesson on star licks of him teaching it and he said he used the sharp, but it sounds correct the way you do it. He never showed the ending extended solo tho. If you could do that one I’d love to learn that one.

  • @dtreenjr
    @dtreenjr ปีที่แล้ว

    A humble correction: If you watch Steve's Starlicks guitar lesson on TH-cam you clearly see that in the first part of the solo, he bends the B string from the G to the A, and then while holding the bend at the A he hits the A sharp on the same string. Second correction is in the next portion of the solo, he DOES start on the G sharp on the A string and slides to the A. Final correction is that at the end of the solo, on the high E string, the run concludes with a slide from the C sharp to the D, not starting on the D and then hammer on to the F. The cruel thing is that no matter how much I practice this iconic solo, I just can't execute it correctly bk my left/right "hand-finger" synchronization sucks. And that is why I know that "I suck at guitar".

    Do you think he double-tracked or do you think he used a short time delay? Sounds like he's doing that for the rhythm tone at the start of the tune. At any rate, a digital delay set to 30ms will help anyone trying to nail those tones - it's common in most of the Lukather presets I find on the Axe exchange.

    I got a request. Myles Kennedy solo from Alter bridge - This side of Fate. (Very underrated Guitarist that Slash & Mark Tremonti have both said he is better than them.)

      Дмитрий Гелих seeing as they are handmade boutique handmade picks, it kind of is! That's about $100 worth of gear I'm giving away between all 5 prizes.
