Mafex has become my source for definitive representations of so many characters. Probably because of the era they're representing (the Jim Lee "Hush" line for DC and the 90s-style Spider-Men and X-Men). The only...tiny...itty-bitty change I want for these Spider-folks is for Mafex to paint the web line rings that go around the wrists the same color as the wrists. So for this version, I'll be painting the ring black so it looks like the white webbing is coming from his wrist (or top of his hand, depending on the version of this costume you're going for). It'd be great if Mafex took care of that for us.
Then it wouldn’t be as modular. I wouldn’t be able to use Ben Reilly’s webs with Parker’s
@@spoodurmin9742 True. But I’d still prefer it. If you’re OK with the white bracelet showing on any figure that’s a preference. But if you’re hiding the bracelet in photography already, having a color-aligned version would open up more poses (or at least reduce Photoshop work).
today the audience of Jim Lee era or the 90's are mature and at their prime, a golden age period in their life, whether in their career or financial power. and they gonna stay like that for at least the next 10-15 years. so mafex do the right thing, producing a figure that represents jim lee aesthetics as close as possible, even if it gonna cost more. as long as it's good, we will buy it. clever

That unmasked head is straight up John Romita JR. It's a perfect representation of his art.

What an absolutely gorgeous figure, another home run from MAFEX.
The "crotch clamp" bit and un-screwed clamp are meant to be combined to give you a clamp that has crotch support. You need to remove the port that the un-screwed clamp comes attached to, which plugs into the crotch clamp.
I didn't realise this for a while until I accidentally got the un-screwed clamp loose when I got Jean, but the combined crotch clamp holds up pretty well.
Well that was a mouthful, wasn't it..

The alternate masked head with the angrier eyes is still artist specific, it just leans a little more into the Ron Frenz or Mike Zeck art styles of the earlier periods of the black suit before McFarlane came on board. I use that as my default head. I love this suit. It’s nice to have an alien costume Spider-Man that looks and feels so prototypical and from the exact era you think it should hail from.

Bro, I was thinking the exact same thing. It would’ve made some great photography.
I imagine it might work, my only guess would be the colours wouldn't completely match, Venom seems to have a slightly greyer black colour, and the Spider-Man head may be slightly too big compared to the proportions Kraven had in the suit. That's just my guess anyway.

The bleeding of the white on the logo can be easily cleaned up with 005 micron pen. I used it to darken up the web lines on my classic Mafex Spider-Man
That dark rooftop shot was awesome.
This is the perfect spiderman figure you can see in the aesthetic, neutral and dynamic poses its perfect, no doubt..

The second clamp (without the screw) combines with the crotch support using the hole in the center (where the screw is on the other one). Otherwise the second clamp uses the same hole to slides onto the straight rod to form a support arm for standing poses.
That paintwork with the shading is incredible, that's how it should be done with every figure, you can notice it if you're looking for it, but it doesn't stick out like cell shading or some figures where it looks like a glowing effect or heavy spray paint.
MAFEX lost me a bit when I got the Carnage figure and the left arm refused to stay on, but over time I've warmed to it more and can overlook that. Especially given how many Spider-Man villains I've been replacing in my collection lately given the newer Marvel Legends releases, every time I look at that Carnage figure I think 'nope, you're too good, you're staying there for the rest of time'.

I love the head sculpt it looks like the very first symboite suit look before Parker had time to shave because of secret wars the neck goo is a nice touch
It’s rare to see a fwoosh robo video without a skit in the beginning especially when it’s toy review. I’m honestly disappointed that there’s no recreation of the Spider-Man yelling at shocker from Spider-Man the animated series, again.

What's pretty crazy is that I bought two of these off AmiAmi, and both with teleportation DHL shipping was $140. So essentially I paid the $60 retail cost of each (w/no taxation without representation internet tax added), plus the $20 shipping. Or maybe the exchange rate at that moment was super sweet.
You're very lucky. For me here in Canada, AmiAmi's shipping price was nuts. Over $25 to ship, and around $30 to enter my province. :o

@@Chalor. Yeah, it's a shame. I feel that a lot of import collectors outside the US and Japan are kinda screwed. We have to resort to BBTS, which tends to make many of the figures extra pricey. Have you seen most of the SHF Kamen Rider stuff on there? It's insane. You can get them much cheaper on AmiAmi, but for me, the intense shipping and import fees kinda kill the point of the cheaper price. :/

The Symbiote suit is my favorite Spider-Man suit and when the Mafex comic version came out I was wishing for this to come out and now I have it. I pre-ordered from Ami Ami and DHL got it to me in 2 days. That's about as close to "overnight it from Japan" as it gets. lol The paint work on mine is pretty good but there is but there is a spot of white missing on his ribs.
DHL and FedEx used to have incredible times where I lived. In many instances I received packages in less than 24 hours. Then, one day in 2018, all of the shipping companies just decided New Mexico was at least a week from everywhere.
I got mine today and personally, I think it’s perfect. And imo I think it’s better than the original. Love it.

As a customizer the logo is an easy fix but I hear the argument for those who say that it shouldn’t be an issue for it’s price! Overall a beautiful looking fig🤘🏽
Yeah, maybe that's why I didn't see it as a huge negative, I may just end up going in and cleaning it up a bit. But I probably should have pointed it out again for those not into that kind of thing.
I was so bummed when I missed out on the reissue of the MAFEX classic Spider-Man but the Symbiote suit more than makes up for it.
They have a new classic suit one which i think will be better bcuz it doesn’t have that metallic and shading that doesn’t translate well in real life

Interesting they went with an amalgamation of the symbiote suit and Parker in the black costume. Cause you got the symbiote goo crawling up their neck, but you don't have the black dots on top of the hands that shoot out the symbiote webbing. It would've been perfect if they included that classic '80s head. Web of Spider-Man #1 was one of the first back issues I purchased when I got into comics. Really makes me wish I got the Select version to get that rooftop base.
Mafex needs to give us a Sandman or Green Goblin
I want a Kraven i feel that would be really good mezco releasing a green goblin which may be the one i use for a while
Green Goblin and Hobgoblin are both high on my list.
The Legends symbiote Spidey WOULD be an acceptable alternative, except that I’ve had it on preorder from multiple retailers for the better part of a year. The Mafex black costume was actually released quicker!
I love this costume and this overall mold. The original mafex is my definitive spidey for the foreseeable future. I love some of the little touches on this like the blue on the bottom of the feet. And I really don't like the retro card spidey mold. That all being said, I weirdly prefer the retro "Secret Wars" legends symbiote? I have no idea why but I think just the thicker and chunkier works for me. I go back and forth on the eyes and overall head shape. I regret not having either of these figures though. We'll see what the future holds. Though the mafex scruff head is fantastic.

Right very nitpicky but... they put the head with the Symbiote on the neck and no webshooting dots on the top of the hands?
To me this is the cloth costume Black Cat made him during the McFarlane run - the eyes, the spider on the chest, the lack of 'organic' webshooter, even the webbing is supposed to be attached to the wrists - so yeah cool you got an alternate head but it doesn't match up.
Again I know it's nitpicky but that's the same reason I didn't like the Hasbro one very much and ended up making my own which is based in the Rick Leonardi and Ron Frenz runs.

So I broke my Legends version out of a box, which is rare. He had a stubborn left thigh cut that wouldn't turn and I twisted it off basically. In any event I know it will get a repaint with the "Renew Your Vows" buck/pinless joints. But what I really wanted to say is the ab crunch really broke up the white spider to me. And off the bat this does not seem to be an issue with this figure. So I already love it more.
Okay seriously, Medicom needs to make a new body mold for their comic Spider-man figure because they've been reusing this same mold so many times that they need to make a new one with more accurate body proportions.
I wouldn't be surprised if somebody made a custom of the classic suit with this figure's body mod

This seems like a figure that's bootleg version isn't gonna be too bad, the design is simple, and with the paint issues on this one a bootleg would probably look like a much better deal

I recently got the retro black suit Spider-Man marvel Legends figure and I just put them up on the shelf I put them right next to my kit bashed knull 2 Pack venom with the movie venom head on them and the black suit Spider-Man the retro one is right next to the kip bashed movie comic venom
Until now the Mezco black suit was my fave version due to how clean it was…
I don't like gap under his neck when you posing "looking up". The tense expression on both spider heads. I wish they add "calm" spider head as well

Definitivw symbiote spider-man for sure. Really don't understand why many confused this with a macfarlane rapresentation because if you read the comics thsi and the classic red and blue suit, plus ben railly, all of them represent the mark bagley spidey wothout any doubt, even the unmasked head is peter as it depicted by bagley.surely is very close also to zeck spidey or frenz spidey but this one isthe bagley one. Is also perfect the eyes detail because in the red and blue costume the eyes have the black edge and this disappear in the symbiote, givin spidey a bigger eyes all white. Also the dot on the white isnt a miss because in the comics sometimes the dots are eher and sometimes not, it depends by who draw spidey, and many times even in thesame issue the dots appear and disappear, so for me the all white patch are correct.if you have the comics you know what i mean. Anyway great review, i cant wait to have it in my hand, absolutely perfect

Is Hasbro just avoiding web accessories like Mafex because Mafex does them and they don’t want to copy them? Both are designed with removable/swapping hands. I’m confused. That figure looks great! There are a load of really great Spider-Man figures out there. I have most of them and enjoy them all. I don’t have most of the Mafex offerings. They aren’t fragile but I feel the $25 offerings are more durable. I am finding myself uses less of the swap ability and just displaying in a cool pose and moving on. It’s a shame. Also all those effects to keep up with. I’m just rambling……
Mafex employees need to wear gloves cause thumbprints on $100+ figures isn't cool.
