I love hearing Johns friends reminiscing about him. I listen to his music everyday. The worst thing is living in a world with no John Prine concert o look forward to.
I was lucky to have seen John Prine & Steve Goodman in Calgary, Alberta in the early 80's at the Jubilee Auditorium. Met Steve backstage as he was warming up. Sat 20 feet away from them for the show... An unforgettable night. Two masters without egos. We are all blessed to have John's brilliance forever recorded as he sits in heaven smoking his 9 mile cigarette❤
A couple of John's songs always made me misty-eyed, the others always made me smile. But now, even the funny ones make me cry. I know what you mean, Mike.
I can concour with what Mike says about John Prine the nicest down to earth guy I ever met. Me and my wife got to see JP in concert on several occasions meeting him back stage once where he made us feel right at home by having a conversation that he seemed to enjoy as much as we did It was truly an amazing experience.
I think there are a lot of us that miss John Prine. A little sadness there when I hear a JP song, yet also a bit of celebration of the man and his life well-lived. John won't be forgotten as long as we continue to play and listen to his music. Thank you, Otis; and thank you, Mike Be good to you 🤍
I've got a copy of the Oh Boy, Lucky 13 compilation, love that Betty was Black documentary. Love and miss John Prine, our Honorary Irishman. PS. i met you Otis outside Paris Texas in Kilkenny a few years back. Thank you for these slices of your escapades.
Thank you Otis, love hearing John Prine stories, the more the better. He certainly was a unique and amazing song writer and a good singer but no one has been able to sing his songs and come close to matching him. Aren't we lucky to have his melodies floating around in our heads and putting a smile on our faces.
Big thanks Otis, for a really warm and interesting interview. I have never met John Prine in person, but through his music and the live performances I've seen with John Prine, I have understod that he was an extraordinary warm, kind, gentle, wonderful and friendly person. Hence, it was really nice to see this interview. And by the way Otis, I've been starting to listening to your own records, and I've found a lot of great songs in your song catalouge. As it's not possible to write comments, I will give my comments here. When I was young is a really great song, I heard it for the first time today, here on your TH-cam Channel.
Awesome! Thanks Mike and Otis for sharing the stories. Love John and his music. Sometimes I can listen to his music for hours and other times I might get through a song before feeding way too sad. Can't imagine how his family feels.
I'm glad to see so many people that knew John Prine reinforcing my perception of him as a truly kind and decent person with a great talent for writing songs that can make you laugh in one line and cry in the next one. If only there were more people in this world like John.
I got to see John at the Guinness Fleadh Festival at the Chicago Motor Speedway in 99'. John stood out amongst the muck of the day, and muck is an understatement; I would never attend a festival again. He had a singular effect of intimacy and comradery when performing that I've ever witnessed. That day legends of mine were leveled while others were elevated. John was the later.
Of all the 5 million+ people this shit killed, JP is the one I miss the most. It wasn't right, but then again, nothing about this whole thing was. Crying shame,
The amazing wordsmith and a real human being. I miss him in the world. One of the heroes I wish i could just talk to. Have tea with. Play a song. What a dream.
Maybe some haven't seen John Prine with Kacey Musgraves: "“This little girl comes up to me with her buddy…. They wanted to take me out in the parking lot and get me high. I said, ‘Uh, gee, thanks but… no, thanks,'” Prine recalls of meeting Musgraves before the show. “We had our picture taken together and the next thing I know, I’m over at my record company, Oh Boy Records, and I hear this tape. It’s Kacey singing this song about how she’d like to burn one with John Prine.”" th-cam.com/video/6A-pRJxCKR8/w-d-xo.html
In 1988 I had a date with Dan Dugmore's daughter, who could play 5 stringed instruments but never touched the steel. She felt she could never equal her dad's talent. Pretty gal and very talented.

Who was it that said John Prine had “that alien DNA”? His is a form of genius, no doubt about it. And why does so much genius come out of that Kentucky region? Tom T, John Prine, and the rest. Those frikkin hillbillies are poets and masters of the English language. Not to mention musical masters. Alien landing?
Here's a fun video Oh Boy made about The Bis-Quits. th-cam.com/video/5DcY97jI_ps/w-d-xo.html

Thanks, you guys. So nice hearing the kind words about John Prine.
Man the world is truly a darker place without John Prine.. thanks Otis

I saw John Prine perform live while I lived on Maui. It is one of my favorite concerts I’ve ever seen. A true legend.

Otis, you and your channel are the best thing on TH-cam.
GR8 video been enjoying John's music for about 50 years. Favorite song is Lake Marie ❤

Feel like I lost my uncle when Prine died. I never felt that way about any other artist
That's what I've been thinking...

Always loved what John said about naming his Record Company..."Oh Boy Records" it could be great like OH BOY! or not then it would be "oh boy ¡".

Another great one Otis!

Retired (I Always Loved John Prine)
I up and retired about three years ago
To free up some time to talk to my own soul
Worked all my life to make ends meet
And finally figured out it’s all just a shit show
The years they have come and gone
Like greased lightning and it didn’t take long
I lost friends while making ends meet
And they are not here anymore to sing along
Today I heard that Mr. John Prine died
Good Lord he was only seventy-three years old
I use to think getting old would be a drag
But they say it seems pretty cool or so I’m told
Lord our love it stays young eternally
Won’t lie to you I have always loved John Prine
This flesh is a lie that the devil he tells
And Mr. John Prine still lives in my hearts mind
Miss a best friend named Jesse Ray
And I sure do wish that Jesse was still down here
Miss my friends George & Joe & Lizzie
Since they left this old world it seems a bit queer
That god damn virus took John Prine
But Lord he will live on forever in all his songs
Left a tear in my eye pain in my heart
Lord with old John Prine I’ll keep singing along
I up and retired about three years ago
To free up some time to talk to my own soul
Worked all my life to make ends meet
And finally figured out it’s all just a shit show
Lord our love it stays young eternally
Won’t lie to you I have always loved John Prine
This flesh is a lie that the devil he tells
And Mr. John Prine still lives in my hearts mind
