  • "Stancing" a car is a good way to break stuff. It also sounds like the worst thing to road trip. Before the boys ‪@GearsandGasoline‬ set off on their Stance Road Trip, Ben asked me to shake down this air ride Jetta and fix a bunch of issues including, oil leaks, wheel bearings, fuel gauge, and more! Godspeed Gears. May your parts store stops be successful! #humblemechanic #advancefleet

    1. Heat up the bearing with a hairdryer to 90°C/194F

    A former co-worker's son came in one day to have work done on the car for inspection. It was a Focus ST and lowered on air. So the day his son brings the car, it fit on the lift just fine(just to note, the shop I worked at had in ground lifts). Co worker couldn't do inspection because of no registration. So next day co worker brings it in, and it wont fit on the lift. We're all scratching our heads because we couldn't figure it out, so we used a 2x4 to get the car over. After finishing the car. I saw the interior and the remote(for the air bags) and told said co worker to press the up arrow. Lo and behold car starts lifting up. Moral of the story, if you are working on a slammed vehicle on air, make sure you lift the air bags to higher than the lift pads and also air leaks out overnight I think, unless the POS had a leak. Anyway love the vid Charles as always. Also any plans for another meetup? I'd love to drive my R129 500sl(if allowed) to some car meet!

    It actually looks pretty cool tbh lol. I think I just dissed stance cars when I was younger because everyone did so. But now that I have a mind of my own, I think it looks okay. I just would hate driving it but it's okay when parked.

    I will never understand the appeal of setting a car so low that alignment is screwed up, handling is screwed up and the wear on parts is accelerated.

      You know you can adjust the alignment right? Also if you do regular maintenance it’s not an issue, tons and tons of people slam cars this low, I just think the owner didn’t understand how to take car of their shit, but to each their own

    hey, probably been mentioned but a quick scroll through I didn't notice any other comments, just as a heads up 9:08 that's a forged 007 diverter valve/ splitter valve, not a BOV. the DV is standard on these cars and typically safe to run this is just an upgraded version

    The #1 way to fix a stanced car is to trash it or restore it to stock. These rides are ridiculous, but at least make some better sense if they're bagged.

    Hey Charles, I have a totally unrelated question to the video! Your channel has helped me successfully complete many a DIY repair on my 2.5l Jetta, especially the vacuum pump replacement without needing to separate the trans from the engine. I’ve had an oil leak which will not give up, a shop replaced the seals on my oil cooler which accomplished nothing, and I’m still stuck. It’s still leaking from the oil filter/oil cooler area and I’m running to get some dye now to get a better idea of what’s leaking. If you’ve any guidance on the subject I would be exceedingly grateful. Thank you for the great, informative content it’s made being a VW owner much less of a headache!

    • @HumbleMechanic

      Is it the filter housing?

    • @TheKaptainKombat
      @TheKaptainKombat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HumbleMechanic I can’t tell. The dye led me to the top backside of the oil filter, but that’s just as high up as I could see with how tight everything is there. One individual on a 2.5L forum replaced all the seals from block to oil cooler to filter housing and that solved their leak but they never pinpointed where it was leaking from. I’ll drain the filter, remove it and reinspect in the next day or so to see if I can’t find anything more definitive. I just don’t want to make any repairs if I’m not sure they will stop the leak. I’ll keep you posted on my findings, and thank you.
