The third expansion, The Taken King, was released on September 15, 2015, marking the end of "Year One" of Destiny. The expansion focuses on Oryx, father of Crota, as he leads a new race of enemy, the Taken, to avenge his son's death. Players have access to a new PvE area, the Dreadnaught, Oryx's massive ship situated in the rings of Saturn (with its own Patrol mode), as well as playable missions on Mars' moon Phobos (previously only available in PvP), and the raid, "King's Fall", that will "put players to the ultimate test" and will release on September 18. A new activity called Court of Oryx is accessed during the Dreadnaught's Patrol mode. During Patrol, players collect items called runes that can be used to activate a new type of public event with random bosses and three levels of difficulty. A new heavy weapon was introduced, a sword, which has new mechanics from the swords that can be used during certain Hive missions. Three new strikes were added and three Year One strikes were revised to include the Taken race in addition to the other enemies. Seven new Crucible maps were added, in addition to two new PvP modes, "Rift" and "Mayhem". New sub-classes were added for all three classes; the Void-based "Nightstalker" for Hunter, the Arc-based "Stormcaller" for Warlock, and the Solar-based "Sunbreaker" for Titan.
Access to an additional mission, which "test[s] the speed and strategic abilities of [players] in new ways", is available to those who redeem a code from specially-marked Red Bull energy drinks. During the month of July 2015, those who redeemed the codes also received an additional consumable item, "Focused Light", which boosted experience gained by 50% for 30 minutes. The mission is a timed exclusive until January 2016. Like the previous expansions, The Taken King has time-limited exclusives for PlayStation platforms, which will last until late-2016. These include the strike "The Echo Chamber", a new Crucible map "Sector 618", an exotic scout rifle ("The Jade Rabbit"), and a legendary gear set for each class: Hesperos (Titan), Azoth Bend (Warlock), and Neuroghast (Hunter).
Two new retail versions of Destiny, the "Legendary Edition" and "Collector's Edition", were released alongside The Taken King: both include a copy of the game, all "Year One" DLC, and The Taken King. The Collector's Edition is exclusive to GameStop and includes a SteelBook case, digital content (three armor shaders and an exotic class item and emote for each class), and "Cayde-6's Intel Cache"-a collection of artwork, other items, and a Strange Coin replica. A Digital Collector's Edition is also available, which includes Destiny, all "Year One" DLC, The Taken King, and the digital content. Owners of the original game, the previous two expansions, and had a character of at least level 30 prior to The Taken King's launch received additional commemorative items, and have the option to receive the digital content of the Collector's Editions for an additional price. Bungie also offered two pre-order bonuses for The Taken King-the "Vanguard Pack" and the "Suros Arsenal Pack"- which were early access to the new Vanguard weapons and the new Suros family of weapons. A new PS4 bundle is also available, which includes a limited edition white 500GB PS4 with Destiny artwork on the face of the console, the Legendary Edition of Destiny: The Taken King, and all bonus content from the Legendary and Digital Collector's Editions. Players who purchase The Taken King receive an item called Spark of Light, which boosts one new character to level 25, the minimum level needed to play The Taken King content
After the void sword quest I never want to step foot on Mars EVER AGAIN.
It took me so long, I had finished the enemy kills part before I was at 7 relic crystals.

Dude thank god for your video. I went to datto and other big channels for this and they failed to tell me that I need to upgrade the sword all the way. it took me hrs to figure out what was up so just leaving some good feed. thanks
My best advices: If you're a Titan and getting the Raze-Lighter then you can use the Sunbreaker subclass use stoke the forge, this perk will instantly recharge your melee if you get an instant kill, just weaken the enemy and use your melee on him that's what I did
IF you're a Warlock and is a Stormcaller trying to get the Bolt Caster then use what I think is called perpetual challenge, this perk allows you to instantly recharge your melee if you get a grenade kill and vice-versa

Thank you so much for this man. I got my dark drinker when it first came out and since there’s nothing to do in destiny 2 right now I decided I wanted to get the raze lighter. I got my sword and upgraded it to 280 and nothing happened and I was so confused until you said I had to upgrade my sword to max. Thank you bro.

So when it comes to gathering Materials I had good luck with using a ghost shell that detects the material, and I also noticed when using a sniper scope the material would pop up and the HUD all over the map. And when it comes to the void sword, getting void kills is pretty simple, all you need to do is kill Enemies with the “holt” of the sword. (If your gonna do the sword method, make sure you had heavy ammo before hand then you must drain the ammo from the sword to the hult for it to work).

If you are a nightstalker, keen scout will make the farming much easier. I haven't actually done it yet, but because keen about marks resources with circles on the radar, searching will be easy af
You had my same reaction to this LONG, multi-quests! Right now, I'm on the final phase after thinking I got it done and had to wait for Wednesday arms day.....ARGH. (But it keeps me busy waiting for Sept 20th)

I NEVER LAUGHED sooo hard in my life hearing you figuring out how hard this task was & i kept avoiding it till i got tired of NOT getting this sword reforged- so as of TODAY i better get to work with some REAL CAFFEINE in some kind of drink, lol my boii
If you're just now watching this for some reason.. What I did is go to the mission "Blighten Coven" because it is a very short mission with about 8-10 majors and you can just restart it wipe and do it all over again. Hope this helps.

lol I find the sword reforge quest was fun where the part youre going to collect those heliums and relics iron I did the 3 of them just jumping across the map waiting for items to respawn.

Lol I totally forgot about the quest and got 50 major kills meanwhile fulfilling it without knowing. Let me tell you this, it's nice to come back and only need 25 crucible kills
i got 2 of them for spinmetal in only 2 trys and it was the last 2 i needed, it took me 30 minutes to get them all
With the ability kills, the same step with gathering materials, you can get all the kills in crucible. For each kill in crucible, its 1%.
For solar ability kills you can go to first mission on the moon on HARD and start killing Hives once you open the gates. I have used throwing knife with RESET ON HEADSHOT perk and killed those wretches. Once you kill all regulars, die to the yellow mobs and this way you can restart the encounter.
Omg I can't even talk about how long the materials took, I had 4 damn stacks of relic iron before I got all my things and the ability kills with nightstalker was so good damn long

Yah know so im redoing this quest 5 years later and its such a pain. Ive gotten roughly 75 helium filaments for sol edge and i only got my first one from a chest

me and two friends did the special version of the sunless cell mission and we all needed a different element sword and it took us four hours because we had to keep all the knights alive
Yeah man, having to keep multiple knights alive is a bit of a pain, especially if you're under light
The funny part is that when you said it took you 24 helium filaments I spawned in and got one on my first one😂😂😂
Im a year one player and this quest brought back some shit memories
"before Gjallahorn and Ice-Breaker" there're year one weapons (when you try to make it look like you struggle and work a lot but you really don't) lol
Pro tip to anyone going for the ability kills. Do the temple of Croat mission. If you stay far enough back, infinite thrall will spawn!

I did the sunless cell strike with like only 220 light, by myself and did just fine. just gotta be that type of gamer I guess.
What I did is do the end strike with all 3 quests active( with randoms )so I was guranteed to get one no matter what one they needed lol cause I can't communicate to them and stuff
I did it in one try. just use a good hand cannon knock down knights health the almost gone. make the two on the sides fall into pit and then have them close together and them fast with a powerful shotgun
Go do the dark beyond mission on Mars put it to 240 light and grind the bit at the end and don't kill them knight
Arms day start in wednesday and is ends in Monday or Sunday
hey do you do all the steps for each one that you want
best way to get ability kills is get rank 5 discipline and do the lamps the area of effect grenades like pulse grenades kill like fifty thralls each

I got 271 helium filaments for 10 soliton flares, man it was misery. I just finished mine now lmao

2 hours to get ten soliton flares, meanwhile on dark souls 3 a good four hours of grinding might get you 5-10 (if you're lucky) of those pledge things to give to the dark moon blade covenant for the best spell in the game. In total you'd be grinding for about a week straight...
For the ability kills, could you just load into Croats end first encounter
To get the ability kills go the the mission where you have to go follow the guardian on the moon and there are a shit load of thrall, just throw your grenades, it took me an 1 hour also you need 500 kills for the abilities
+Mason Sterling just look in the description of the missions on the moon and one should say you follow a guardians tracks something like that and no you can use grenades and Meele
Well he's what this took me three days to get all the materials
Destiny year one, I spend 6 months playing game 4-6 hrs a day before Gjallarhorn finally dropped, 6 MONTHS!!! compared to this quest that'll take 1 week (worst case scenario) I'll take quest any day.
Ability kills with void warlock is easy just use noting manacles and energy drain with increased time and spam scatter grenades :D

Yeah the ability kills all together is 500 kills... It's a pain in the ass lol, i always go to the Moon "The dark beyond" story to farm the huge crowds of acolytes
If you're lucky enough to have chosen a Warlock for this, go Stormcaller with the Perpetual Charge perk
Melee arc charges Grenade, Grenade kills charges Melee=500% faster
Need some help. Year 3 people can I do this twice on one character? I’ve got a 390 hunter with void and my warlock and titan are bad, can I do it on my hunter again for solar?
for ability kills go do prison of elders
And do the kills on " the dark beyond " mission on hard kill all thrall with super , kill acolyte and acolyte major for super again . DONT kill major knight cause it will start u at diff checkpoint .

I believe chests won't give you the rare material, just the helium. Could be what stretched that grind out for you.

I did mayhem clash for the abilities and it was pretty fast
recently I got the taken king update and I was pissed I had to level my self from 1 to 37 without that stupid level badge thing you year 2s have it so easy
the arc one is definitely the best in pvp and maybe in pve too
