I absolutely love his breathless quality on this! I think that this arrangement is spectacular!!!
You’ve just begun to scratch the surface of David’s “sides”.
I think he created a new genre with his latest album, something like classical/gospel/ funk. “Song for Sinners” is absolutely amazing, a kind of soft jazz, with lots of runs, which he normally doesn’t do much.

everything he does is amazing you should really dive into his music. If you like "the slide" you should check out Just As I Am. To put it bluntly this man can flat out sing. Truly a gift from God!!
He is one of my favorite singers of all time. His vocal range from years ago with the gaithers and solo now years later has been outstanding.

I’ve listened to this version since it was released. It’s my go to song when I want to listen to chill Phelps as I go to sleep. I lay there with it on repeat. I love his “pop” breathy, almost sultry feel, especially at the beginning. He emotes so well. And the legato slide up just gets me. He’s simply brilliant.

Thank you for doing this. You are beginning to realize David DEFIES being confined to only one genre. He loves music, lives it and is abundantly talented to sing, arrange, write and play all types and considers himself a "stylist". You're seeing it as you venture out. You will never be disappointed on any of his tracks, including and especially his originals! Blessings

I hadn't heard David singing this song. He is just plain AMAZING and some. I love all his music. His voice is one of a kind and he made magic with his rendition of Unchained Melody. His singing melts my heart.

Hi Dennis..my recommendation would be His Hello Beautiful…
"The Voice" album is from 2008. There are many, many sides to David's vocals, song-writing, arranging, orchestrations, etc. You are definitely down the rabbit hole. David's phans have discussed for years why David has not won more awards, nor become more well known. I think it's because he cannot be put in a box. People don't know what to do with him.

Definitely made it his own. It's pretty good, just not as good as the original for me.
@Barton Bagnes You are right! I love David and have followed him since the beginning of his Gaither career maybe sooner. I love Home Free and Austin Brown singing this song. This is 2 different songs for Home Free and Austin Brown. These songs are on You Tube. Righteous Brothers are great also, the original.
