Why is Bible-believing Christianity the way it is in the 2025 western world? In large part, the characteristics that formed in the 1950s-2010s were the basis for most of what we see today in the western body of Christ. From the deplorable state of Christian higher education, to popular Christian views of western society, to the large network of Christian media outlets, most of the common features of western evangelicalism have their roots in the beliefs and practices that were developed soon after World War 2, throughout the Cold War, and into the Internet Age.
In this episode, Chris and Casey give you an overview of western Christianity from the late 40s to the present. They explain the major issues that involved Christ’s body in that time, which include a number of topics:
    1. The inerrancy debate and the start of neo-evangelicalism
    2. The explosion of new evangelical organizations
    3. The Jesus Movement
    4. The moral majority movement
    5. The church growth and megachurch movements
    6. The emerging church movement
    7. The gender role debate
    8. The critical race theory controversy
    9. The 21st century wave of neo-Calvinism
Along the way, we connect what has gone on in recent decades with where we are today, and then end with a short encouragement for how to face the hostile world we’re living in as westerners (and as believers in general). This concludes our series of episodes that surveys the most important time periods in western history. Beginning with the next episode, we’ll be focusing more on specific people, events, and topics - tentatively starting with the bishop Augustine of Hippo.
