How To Organize Your Pokemon TCG Collection for Competitive Players

- Here's a look at how I organize my Pokemon TCG collections as a player of the card game. Some of this may be SUPER obvious, but hopefully if you're looking to improve your organization this can be inspirational!
And let me know if you organize your cards in a totally different way! This is certainly a more expensive option, but others may be interested to hear ways that might not be so pricey.

Dam it's so satisfying to see birds all in different rarities @ 4:44, as most collectors sort by set and number. This is the first video from tons I've watched where a player has good organization like that.

I actually use the elite trainer boxes and the dividers that come with them. I have the cards divided into their type, followed by trainers, special energy, and finally basic energy. Any card I pull thats of higher rarity I keep in a binder
I think thats probably a common method since its space saving and cost effective. But definitely satisying to flip through

that's so much better that what I've been doing omg. Since I started with SwSh base I've just been filing em by type, trainer, energy etc in the ETB boxes and trainer's toolkit! I've tried to compile all of my cards usable in standard on a word document, but I'll have to go through that since I learned about the rotation stuff not too long ago haha. I'll have to look into binders once I have space for some!

Thanks! Definitely lucky to be able to have as many sets of cards as i do. But id certainly recommend this method if youre just starting. Easy to sort early, just a bit if investment in binders (prob around $150)

Great vid! It is really cool to see some organizational tips on card storage for sure. Personally, my cards organization pulls from the "method to my madness" theory. I have about three or four binders that are each separated between the Expanded and Standard Formats and within each binder (or binders) I try to keep them sectioned into stadiums, supporters, items, etc. However, since I am usually building decks and testing them it doesn't take long before they binders become very disorganized.
Ya, tons of work to keep them organized over time. I usually put everything back every few weeks, and it takes maybe an hour each time
I've been thinking I need to do something like this so it's good to see how you organize. I didn't expect to get as into the game as I have (only started playing because my son wanted some cards) so everything is in 800 card boxes, sorted by set and card number, and a separate box for trainers which are in alphabetical order. It does mean I can find what I need pretty quickly, but browsing is basically impossible. Binders for GX, V, and Ultra Rare stuff.

I have a little over 10k cards now. Been playing for about 2yrs. I went to using TEB to hold all the bulk pokemon, I sort mine by set and numerical order. Takes a ton of time to do that...haha. I also have a TEB for Items,Supporters, stadiums, Special Energies. I have multiple Shoe Boxes full to the rim of Basic Energy. Totes full of sleeves and extra Dice, extra Damage counters, poison burn markers...ect. I have a large Shelf to hold all of it and probably going to need a second shelf soon. I also have many unopened boxes of cards, like the premium powers Hidden Fates box that came out, picked it up for the Turbo Strike Solgaleo but never opened it and wow its tripled in price! I sort me cards by making a deck and putting all the main cards on a page of a binder

I have a ultra rare binder too, but I put any full art and gold trainers in there as well. I have all my trainers in one 3 row binder. Its gets pretty full by the end of each season. I have a 4 pocket binder for my energy.
I didnt even show it, but i also have a shoebox full of basic energy. But one 3 row binder for all the trainers must get super full for sure

How do you determine which cards are playable?
I sort my commons uncommons and rares in elite trainer boxes I have two different binders one for Ex Gx V Vmax fullarts and secret rares. And another binder of artwork I just like commons uncommons rares and holos

Wish it was a more impressive collection tbh, but as a player its really good since i have 4 of basically every playable card in standard, with enough extra to make multiple decks.

I was thinking on instead of organizing by type I was thinking name since I have a crap ton of a lot of poke mon of different types and most have normal energy to attack

based on this video, I am considered insane so sit tight
so when I sort my cards I put the different types of pokemon cards and I sort that s*** by energy so like I would put all the psychic type pokemon together but the ultra rares and rainbow rares together along with the full arts and the full art trainers and so basically it was ex, mega ex, gx, tag teams, Vs, Vmaxes and the new set I got v stars but that collection is not completed and I have binders for energy cards

hmm, I would say to just sort your regular pokemon the way I did, by type. Might need more than 1 binder over time, but nothing too crazy
I put the energy card first then I put the characters
I have a much smaller collection, so I basically just have my holo cards in a binder, sorted by type, and the rest of my cards are sorted by type in a couple of elite trainer boxes, and after sorting them by type they're sorted alphabetically. It's gotten so hard to get cards, I'm mostly just getting codes ans building up my PTCGO collection instead and that's easy enough to search/sort. Can't wait for this insane bubble to burst and scalpers stop scooping up everything so I can get back into collecting irl cards again, but tbh collecting online has been better for my wallet lol

It should be noted that this is obviously more for players and not suited for collectors. There would be no reason for a collector who doesn’t play to sort in this way.
I've just been putting cards into binders (by number) and all bulk go into my ETBs. I've never played competitive but been itching to.
You should definitely give playing competitively a go, lots of online tournaments run by the community at the moment. Though I prefer IRL games, and that won't be coming back soon in the US

What is the difference between stander, and theme Pokemon deck
A theme deck is a pre-created deck from the Pokemon company that you can buy directly. Standard refers to a format where the cards you can build your own deck from must be from specific setsz in Pokemon standard legal sets are typically the most recent 2-3 years of cards

I sort my cards by type
I have mine organized in ETBs. By type and in each type, oldest expansion to newest, and one box has energy and trainers by usefulness. Then there's that one random box of fairy and dragon pokes, and useless trainers. lol

Pour one out for that one box of dragon and fairies. I think a lot of people use the ETB method with the dividers that come with them. Definitely saves space
My cards are NOT sorted, which is why I came to this video. It can start sorted but becomes a mess real quick as I break up older decks then not put them back (thinking I'll re-play the deck.)
ya, i personally like my organization style since i build/take apart/rebuild multiple decks a week. And sorting in this manner has been pretty easy to keep organized
