    Great video! Lots of good info. Wish I were 30 years younger. Always wanted to raise meat rabbits. Just no way to do so where I live.
    Really like this channel.Best of luck to you with your rabbits

    This is a very good video. I think you touched on all of the important items very clearly. I do like home made hutches and I prefer all wire cages for the climate here in Kansas.

    Low cost flooring tiles make excellent testing pads also.

    We use bale Bermuda grass hay from our local tractor supply, same stuff our goats eat. I’m watching this video a year later but if you haven’t tried it it’s a thought! $12 a square bale.

    Also for use 55gal plastic drum to catch water of roof. Then use black food hose tees, rabbit nipples, in water wrap with concrete blanket. It's very bad winters upstate main and don't freeze as long as nipples don't clog. Imo

    My local tractor supply/country store has a meat rabbit pellet. I just had to ask.

    Hi, just came across the channel and definitely subscribing. I have been wondering, can rabbits be free ranged like chickens? I find the cages too sad for such an active animal. Thank you.

    • @rabbitathomestead
      @rabbitathomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! I don't think you can free range rabbits. But you should check out raising them in a colony setting. I think you will like that better. You can also build rabbit tractors for them

  • @KB-2222
    @KB-2222 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Are they better on the ground or off the ground? We are keeping ours on the ground in a large 50ft by 50ft enclosure.

    • @rabbitathomestead
      @rabbitathomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly I have never raised them permanently on the ground before. My grow outs spend time on the ground but just for a few weeks. I like the hutches because they stay clean and I don't have to worry about really any health issues. I am curious about raising them in a colony style setting tho. Sounds like you have a nice set up. It's really just a matter of preference. :)

      @@rabbitathomestead I'm thinking of building some hutches and taking them off the ground. Just to have more control of everything.

    • @rabbitathomestead
      @rabbitathomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, that's another reason I like the hutches! Easier to manage them

    can you suggest pellets that do not contain gluten or soy (and probably corn)?

    From raising and breeding rabbits, I had over 100 at one point, I found that warm water freezes faster than cold water

    • @justforfun4623
      @justforfun4623 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rabbitathomestead it's weird to me because in my mind cold water would freeze faster because it's already cold. I don't understand it lol.

    • @rabbitathomestead
      @rabbitathomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah same. I'll have to test that out next winter

      In warm water the molecules are further apart, the closer to boiling point gets. Until its gas, which instant freeze. (Perhaps you have seen tossing boiling water from the kettle in to air videos)

    can you give the rough dimensions for the "individual" vs growout resting mats?

    • @rabbitathomestead
      @rabbitathomestead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's just rough cut or scrap wood. I don't measure the wood at all. I just use larger pieces of scrap for grow outs and smaller pieces for the breeders.
