    I love all those questions you peppered the driver with! Love your work Andy.

    Great tanker driver, knows why and why not about his job, I respect that. Good on him taking time to share a bit of his knowledge.

    There are little RFID tags in each of those sample bottles and the computer writes your farm number on to it, so it is identified later when tested. The computer uses your estimated litres, based on previous pick ups to control the sample rate. The idea being that however much milk you have it samples throughout pumping giving an accurate sample of all the milk and the bottles are full at the end. The tech Fonterra use for their milk collection is pretty impressive.

      Are the milk collection tankers in compartments ? If it all goes in together then surely a problem identified later would contaminate the lot.
      My grandfather farmed in rural Wales UK and used churns. Occasionally a churn would actually be returned if not up to standard

      @@pixie706 No they had some basic baffles to help with slosh but no separate compartments. Bear in mind in much of NZ the typical tanker load 26-29000 litres is collected from 1 to 4 farms so not much need for it.

      its all pretty interesting, the tech must be amazing sorting out all the fluid pickups.
      I was told a few years ago that Fonterra has the biggest fleet in NZ with 400 units, Im not sure if that's still the case though?

    What an impressive tanker, they can reject our milk if it’s over 4 c but I bet they don’t have near as long of a haul

    If a tanker load fails, from another farmers milk, do you lose your money as well, even if your milk was correct?

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question, but the farmer that contaminated the milk gets penalise heavily, they pretty much have to buy the tanker load. Doesn't affect all the others In that load they still get paid like normal

    The Once a Day Farmer the test thats done by the Tankers is just that an antibiotic test it's to see if there is any antibiotics in the milk if the test comes up with a Clear of antibiotics reading it'll display a Pass then that dairy farms milk can go into the factory / milk processing plant if the test is a fail reading then the milk from that dairy farm will be dumped it won't be processed into the factory thats why dairy farms separate milk in the parlour to avoid a dump milk result as it'll mean the dairy farm won't be paid for their milk as dairy farms want their milk to be processed as it means money is coming in to the dairy farm as the treated with antibiotics milk can be collected in the parlour then given to the calves for them to use the milk as calves will drink it you would think no problem even if it has antibiotics as calves need milk.

  • @svfproductions9520
    @svfproductions9520 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The Once a Day Farmer Hopefully your milk will be a Pass result on the test as it's one of the reasons why it's a good thing to separate treated milk so it doesn't go into the Vat as the milk in the Vat is the one that'll go to the Tanker when the Driver comes over and picks the milk from your dairy farm I seem to know about dairy farms and the procedure as well but I'm just a General viewer as I'm just interested in what happens in different dairy farms as NZ is different from other countries like the United States Canada and the Netherlands talk about United States there are some that I know of like 10th Generation Dairyman Rohrer Dairy Production Vanderham Farms talk about Canada @saskdutchkid and A Dairy on the Prairie both separate channels on one Dairy farm Full Line Austin Walker Farms.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All awesome channels!
      We get penalised heavily if there was contamination of antibiotics, you pretty much have to pay for the whole tanker load if it was to happen. I hope it never does touch wood!
