How to Add a Dry CYA - Cyanuric Acid in your Above Ground Pool

  • Adding powder CYA in a pool suggest that you add it into the skimmer however, most above ground pool does not come with a skimmer. If you tried adding the powder directly into the water, you will realize that the powder does not mix easily into the water.
    If you do not have a skimmer, one technique that you can do is to add the powder into a sock or any piece of cloth and place it to the return screen or simply leave it in the water for at least 10 minutes then squeeze it out of the socks as I demonstrated in this video. You can also do the same technique with a Dry Acid. The only powder that I add directly into the pool is the shock.

    I thought a pool sock was something special. It's just a sock... Good to know thanks so much.

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. It is just a sock. Or you can use any fabric to hold the dry CYA so it does not go into the bottom of your pool.

    • @mikeneuburger3989
      @mikeneuburger3989 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also there are special “pool socks” but that’s related to the skimmer, this is something else

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeneuburger3989 That is correct. For Dry CYA you just need a regular sock or cloth.

    I heard about sock idea but 1st time I'm seeing it so thank you. There are pool filter socks you can buy on amazon, but they go in your filter, which would not work for me as water would flow right out.

    How long would you wait to add this after shocking the pool? Also thanks for this idea, not a fan of those giant tablets,

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't really need to wait to add this after shocking the pool. But some just follow the rule of 30 minutes between each chemical to give them chance to spread before adding another.

    I just poured it in , and kept swirling it around, now I know to use a sock. So how long does it take to dissolve if I poured it in? I have a vinyl pool. I’m new to this pool stuff

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! I'm not sure how long it will take to dissolve if you just swirl it around. I have to brush the pool floor to dissolve the granules. If you have a small pool, you may need to get something like this kit to keep your pool clean.
      amzn.to/4ethTl4 or this amzn.to/4eoDJq1
      Or get something with longer pole if you have a large pool.

    When can i swim when using this method? Do i wait till the levels show up?

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You would want to wait at least 45 min before going in after adding chemicals to give it a chance to mix in and get deluted in water.

  • @Hud101010
    @Hud101010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How often would you have to do this?

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      You do this one time at the beginning of the pool season and you want to check the level again IF and WHEN you do a drain and refill.
      If you only lose water through evaporation and common splash out while playing in the water you should not add more for the season.
      If you are planning on using chlorine tablets, you should start your CYA at the lowest number (30) because the tablet will increase the CYA number overtime. But with a small pool like this you will most likely splash out enough water that will help keep the CYA within range.

    How much do you add to a 1000 gallon pool

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will only need 4 oz for 1,000 gallon pool to increase your CYA from 0 to 30ppm.

    What does the sock do?

    • @diymanual
      @diymanual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Check 1:15 where I talk about the use of sock. Basically if you just toss the dry acid in the water, it won't dissolve properly and will stay at the bottom of your pool.
