    Everyone, I would not put CYA straight into the skimmer basket as this chemical melts very slowly.
    It would be like putting pounds of small granules thru your system that will take a couple of days to melt.
    I think it's hard on your pool system........put 1 pound in a old sock and then throw it in you skimmer.
    You want to add this chemical slowly over several days, add 1 pound a day or when product has melted away
    in the sock add another pound. After 3 or 4 pounds have your pool water tested for CYA level at the pool store and repeat if
    necessary. You must be patient with this chemical as you push your level to high, the only way to correct it is to do a partial
    or full drain of your pool........don't get in a hurry or it will cost you more time and a lot more money.

    I had CYA in a sock in a floater to slowly dispense the CYA into the pool. It ate up that sock. Very strong acid. Would not do what he’s doing. It would eat up your cartage filter as it sits in there for days

    You can also bring up the CYA by adding a few additional stabalized trichlor tabs. I once added too much CYA and had to drain half my pool to get chlorine to work again. I try to keep the level between 30-50.

    Whatever you do, don’t add Cyanuric acid directly into skimmer so that it flows into the pump. It needs to be dissolved first. The granules take a long time to dissolve and will damage the pump. Either dissolve the CA first in a bucket of warm water or put them in a heavy duty old sock and suspend them in the skimmer basket to dissolve. If you want to grind the granules together after being in the sock for awhile that’s fine but WEAR A GLOVE. I did it without a glove once and got medium acid burns on my hand. I know, I’m an idiot😭😂

      If you squeeze it in a bucket, I'd probably suggest it or it might irritate the skin a bit by the time you're done (if you're really trying to get a lot out), but if you hang it in a skimmer and occasionally squeeze the sock, no need. Just squeeze for 30 seconds to a minute and then rinse hands in pool afterwards. Very low toxicity. It's considered to be slightly irritating to eyes, but not to the skin.

    I keep adding stabilizer to my pool (perfect alkalinity, ph and chlorine) but CYA reading always says 0. I even poured a pound of stabilizer in a bucket and tested that water after mixing for 10 minutes. Test strips showed no CYA in the bucket.. I am confused, can some stabilizers not influence CYA testing? My test strips and stabilizer are both new..

      Did you figure this out ? Because I am getting the same thing. I keep adding it and it's not changing the levels

    • @NP-gb5su
      @NP-gb5su 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Testinglif3 No I haven’t but I don’t worry about it, pool water is crystal clear, chlorine level is stable even if it’s very hot outside, and yeah CYA still shows 0..

      @@NP-gb5su Test strips are garbage for CYA. Get a Taylor test kit wit the R-0013 reagent test. If you're not seeing a drop off in your Cl levels, you are probably OK though I'd still get a proper test kit. It will end up costing you less in the long run by avoiding unnecessary treatments. I'd opt for the K2006 kit with the dropwise Cl test IMO but anything is better than test strips. On a side-by-side, I've found that they are never right on nearly any of the things they are supposed to test--pH and Cl included.

    What if I accidentally poured the bag into the pool directly instead of the skimmer? Does it eat the lining?

    • @mlsmith617
      @mlsmith617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is slow dissolving, which is why you put it thru your skimmer basket. This helps disperse it thru the water. Adding it directly to the pool is fine, however, you will need to brush it so that it starts to dissolve in your water. If you have a main drain, I would suggest brushing it towards that, so that it will go thru your filtration system. If you have a sand filter, do not backwash for 48 hours of the filter running so that you don't loose what you just added in. Hope this helps!

    What is the correct pump valve setting when adding stabilizer to the pool water, is it recirculation or on filter valve setting?

      yeah no one is saying the same answer.. so imma just use a sock tied up and leave it in the skimmer lol

      @@ItsBFrizzy You have the right idea, this stuff dissolves very slowly. I Don't think it's a good idea to add it straight to the skimmer,
      one might never have a problem putting in the skimmer but just better to avoid a potential problem.
      I don't want it just sitting in the bottom of my pool filter.

      @Andy Soraluce chemicals are going to run through your plumbing anyway. Problem is those granules are hard. They will eat up your impeller. If it wasn’t for that there would be no problem.

    • @Dave67AZ

      Depends on how much you want to raise the stabilizer level. The cyanuric acid container has a chart on the side to give you the answer to your question.

  • @billfort1316

    This is terrible bad advice. The stabilizer will not dissolve quickly. Doing this will surely clog a pump. Try a small amount in a glass of water and you will see.

    This guy makes it sound as if it is a complected science. It is so elementary, really. They all do it so that it would justify unreasonable pay for such a low skill labor. Anybody can do pool maintenance.
