I'm a trauma specialist and the unpleasant one is my right hand woman. I have literally reached my hand out for instruments and before I've said a word it just appears there. I also trust her implicitly to the point where if it wasn't a serious risk to my license if she said there was a tension pneumothorax I'd crack the chest without checking because she has a 100% hit rate.
My dad was a nurse and his advice to me on entering the workforce was "take care of your nurses they're your eyes, ears, and hands and let you be 5 places at once." That was more important than anything I learned in medical school or internship.

For me its a double sided sword.
On one hand I really want to learn from them by watching, and they do tell me my weak points which is good, but on another hand, they're the same ones that have gossiped about me and it actually put me in trouble multiple times. Thankfully it was just an internship. At least now I'm prepared to handle THAT in the workforce

Silence can be the most powerful thing we have in this world, in ways we don't expect. Just tonight (Err, I should warn this does get into life/loss territory so I'll give some space for those who might not want to go there, which I fully understand and respect)
I was discussing how I may have lost a couple friends to self selection because i tried too hard to relate when what they may have needed was for me to be silent and nonjudgemental and simply present, and acknowledge they're hurting and that is perfectly acceptable to not be okay, and we'll figure out a solution when they're ready, but until then, I'm here, and they're valid.
Sorry if this took a hard turn. It's just a thought that occured to me and one never knows who else may need to hear they're not alone in this thought.

My grandma is the 'unpleasant' one. It's because she follows policy to a T and will pull you to the side to tell you if you did something that goes against policy.
Her own coworkers repeatedly bullied her, but she's never quite the job. Even though, frequently, her life has been put at risk due to the bullying. (Such as some nurses putting cinnamon in her lunches or creamer, or chewing cinnamon gum and trying to get in her face, of which she's deathly allergic. They've even done this in front of patients, one of which resulted in the patient becoming hysterical due to also being severally allergic.)
She's oriented several nurses and has been in the game longer than I've been alive. I remember going to the hospital on days she was teaching classes in how to do things. Almost every year she has another award for her work. Her patients love her, and even today she received a commendation and a raise for her patient advocacy. She's the one someone would want in an emergency situation.

I never really appreciated it until my mom and aunt were taking care of their mom. I don’t know about my aunt, but my mom busted her shoulder and she’s in physical therapy a year later. It wasn’t big stuff- just helping her stand up and sit down mostly, and she was only about 100lbs by then, but it is unbelievably difficult if you don’t know how to do it properly. A couple of times a visiting nurse came by and they had no problem with any of it (we were struggling with 2 people!)

Hmmm sounds too ICU to be an ER nurse. I wrote all the times in sharpie completely down my arm in no discernible pattern except to me (the arm that was guarding their head) and they thought I was ridiculous but I had all the info and didn’t care about the sharpie on my skin soo 🤷🏻‍♀️

She first noticed me having post partum depression.....long story short...got the help I needed.
    Bless her soul.
She was so gentle with me even if she was tough as a cookie with all the other nurses and doctors.
It was my 1st child and my Mom had passed before my wedding....so I was.....so lonely....🥺
Found out she passed 3 months into the covid19 lockdown back in apr 2020...😢😢she had just retired by then.

    • @magiv4205
      @magiv4205 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Wait, you get to draw blood as a Praktikant (Intern for the non-germans)?? In Switzerland they're extremely stingy about NOT letting the interns draw blood (unless they're nurses in training, of course). They get to do most other routine tasks though.

    • @miahempel7991

'Coffee slave' - I must remember this one! For those outside of Austria: Coffee is serious business for us Austrians. VERY serious business.
The 'Praktikanten' (pl.) are always so poor and shakey. Whenever I am (again...) in hospital I let them draw my blood. They have got to learn it anyways and I can give them useful advice from a very... 'experienced' patient's view and reassure them.

As I commented on NurseJohnn, both of you are an AMAZING example in your Medical fields! Always sharing your adventures and learning experiences as you engage with all kinds of patients! More than bravery…it takes a STRONG HEART, SOLID MIND and a GALLON of quick wits to handle such challenges. You and NurseJohnn are a 10 out of 10 rating and as part of the Divine Staff of Celestials, you are both an Honor to have been created, impeccable learning skills. Rafael the Archangel would be soooo proud of both of you, for your love in the field and the representation you show that helps others in that field know the Value and Worth it takes and tolerating the Challenges. Congratulations! Keep inspiring so that others doesn’t get burnt out but find in their field the meaning of Caring! 🫶🫶🫶🏆🏆😇
