Polywood! What a great company, recycling, reusing, contributing to the economy, jobs, great products and a wonderful take on saving the planet one milk jug at a time 😍
I love seeing companies like this. So innovative! But I was so surprised that everyone wasn’t wearing some serious masks/filtering systems. I can’t imagine how many microplastics they are exposed to every day.
Thank you so much, you have no idea how much your comment means. I spent a lot of time with the brick shop trying to match stuff, luckily the guy who works there was super helpful. :D
Watching the process of restoring your schoolhouse leaves me so impressed with the work you, your husband, and the various professionals have put in. Bravo!
Never disappointed with your 'schoolhouse' updates. It's just amazing how far ya'll have come. That Pollywood tour was fascinating. I've always been curious bout how the whole 'recycling' thing works. Now I know . . . at least a little. I bet it feels strange finally living there full time after so long and so much work. Hope you and the family enjoy every minute and make some beautiful lasting memories. I look forward for all the updates to follow
I came to see how your family's cool place was coming along, and found the source for our new outdoor furniture. Appreciate seeing a great recycling solution...and the tech required to make it happen. Thanks a million.
A Fabulous Deck !!!! And I am so thankful that Sean got through the Covid years safe and sound. What a frightening time, especially for healthcare workers and their families. 💛
I was so excited to find your channel. We lived in Edinburgh several years and loved Franklin. My home town is Avon, and as a newborn, a one room schoolhouse that had been converted to a home was my 1st home. It was "Grandma's House", and was her school as a child.
I always get excited to see an update from you. The deck looks great! Love that Keith brings his horn on deliveries so he can play during his break 😃 🎷
@@Schoolhousehomestead Landscape design involves a whole lot of thinking and drawing. I encourage you to either get a degree in it or hire a professional before doing any serious work to your yard. You have so much space that any landscape architect or designer would go crazy imagining all the possibilities. Patio, garden rooms, fruit orchard and vegetable garden, a swimming pool later, are just some of the ideas.
I love everything about this video. As a gardener, I'm especially looking forward to this year for you as you start adding more greenery around the schoolhouse. There are so many good options for you with such a beautiful home as the centerpiece.
It's so wonderful to see an update. I LOVE the patio. It's perfect for sunbathing as well. And those clouds behind you remind me so much of my time in Indiana. I used to love the warm rains. Were those Aperol spritzes I saw you "cheering" with??? I'm so impressed by the plastic recycling. That is so amazing. We used this type of material to make our above ground veggie garden. We get quite a few deliveries here but we NEVER get our own concert. That was a treat! If I ever get to experience your patio, I'm sitting at the kids table! My husband is a landscape architect and he's so impressed with all you have to work with. He can't wait to see what you do with it. I can't wait for the next video!!!!
I loved the Polywood tour. It's awesome that the products are recycled and the furniture made is heavy and won't blow away. I particularly like the dining table and chairs. Super cool!
Thank you!! I'm so glad folks are enjoying the Polywood tour, I found it so inspiring and hoped others would too! The furniture is *definitely* not going to blow away, this stuff is heavy as heck!
I went to these old schools in Indiana, not yours though. I've never said here but I am SO grateful that you took a legendary building and made it a home, preserving it's history. I am so proud that an Indiana company, Polywood, really recycles our waste.
So cool. I think a vintage mural on the garage done with lime wash. Now is the time to plant bare root fruit trees which are cheap. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. Love this so much
I have really enjoyed following your renovation - restoration of the school house. You have a real gift and vision for this. The videos will be awesome for your children to see when they grow up. You have a great voice for the audio part of the videos. Thank you for sharing your story.
I LOVE the rich color and total look of the board siding on the covering of your internal garage stairs! I've been watching that wee corner of your build, waiting to see what you're going to do. NOT DISAPPOINTED!
I would suggest water features.A small one on the roof deck to be able to hear running water. Or maybe a little larger to have a cooling effect in some way & possibly help water your garden. And eventually, maybe a gold fish pond with an aerating fountain in the back yard.
I did a little research, and came up with a few ideas for you... 1. Citronella torches, tabletop, wall mounted, or deck 2. Kid games, Toss Across, Ring Toss, Bowling (something that can be played safely on the deck) 3. Ceiling fan for the pergola 4. Freestanding fire pit 5. Freestanding water feature 6. Freestanding elevated garden boxes (they looked like raised garden beds, just with legs) 7. And, of course, rugs, pillows, cushions, and lighting
This was interesting! My dad had a lawn furniture shop and now brother took over the business. He uses poly lumber and his scraps go to a recycling place to make more lumber!
Between the iron rails on the deck over the garage...the pedestals would look nice with statues OR more plants in permanent containers. I loved watching your progress.
Thank you and looking forward to more videos from you! I soooooooo look forward to your updates and so thrilled we all get to be part of your families journey.
Loved the Plywood tour. I am a professional sound guy and did the first season of "How's it Made" - when they actually talked with the folks that made stuff. Your School House Deck looks wonderful! - a deck I would love to hang out and watch an Indiana sunset!
That polywood tour was the coolest thing ever!!! Who knew it came from northern IN??? That furniture is pricey, but so well made and will last forever!! The deck turned out fantastic. Agreed, staining is a pain, but the floor is way easier than railings, so at least you have that going for you. If you don’t know what a treager grill is, that would be worth a look. It would be a great addition to the deck. Another great vid. Thanks for sharing!!
It has been so much fun following you all through this makeover! Wow! The work involved!! Truly Amazing. You guys should be so proud. Thank you for sharing your adventure!
I'm so impressed. You have great vision. I can see some wonderful gatherings with family & friends this Spring & Summer. Invite us along as you entertain. Thanks for the tour.
Thank you so much for that fabulous tour. That was so interesting. Please show us more. The roof deck looks incredible and I know you will spend so much time out there.
@polywood, the furniture is Gorgeous!!! Thankyou!!! for having the courage to stick with you vision and make these fabulous products. p.s. I Do wash my milk jugs really well. lol. 😊
I love the awesome job you've done with the schoolhouse. Absolutely amazing. That single garage with the metal cabinets would be a great place for a pantry/storing dry goods/can goods. Also, have you thought about maybe a charming gazebo out in the yard? Just a thought, anyway, Thank you for sharing your journey through this endeavor. I just love it!
I LOVE this channel! I grew up in Northern Colorado where there are soooo many abandon schools out in the country that look just like this! Is so refreshing to see someone recycling one and turning it into a home. Most of the ones in my area are being torn down :(
What great patio furniture and an amazing concept. Their styles are fashionable and sturdy! The roof deck looks great and I love your garages! Especially love Pimm's pee pad! Brilliant! Cheers!
I flippin loved seeing all that plastic being recycled. Definitely will be checking out this furniture place. Amazing!!!! Love the rooftop deck. I love being outside, I'd probably use that every day, even in the winter. Beautiful.
@Lucinda_Jackson same here in PA on top of this hill. If it's not nailed down, it will blow away. Wishing i had a place to sit that would also block the wind. Sun porch where I could remove windows in the spring summer and fall.
Fantastic and educational video! Tossing out an idea for lighting on your deck. 1. String lights with the Edison style bulbs hanging overhead would be nice. 2. Install LED strip lighting underneath the slabs that the deck railing is installed onto. It would not been seen but add a lighted perimeter on the top deck. The string LED lighting could even be adjusted via an app with color options too on demand.
Your roof deck/set up/furniture are all so nice. Love your vlog. Admire the hard work you put into making a schoolhouse your home. I also live in a 100+ year old schoolhouse ... wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Such wonderful progress! And that Polywood factory tour was great! It's so good to see that kind of manufacturing in Indiana, which used to have a lot more of it. I hope you consider hiring a landscape designer to create a plan for your yard. Yes, it will cost a bit, but you'll have the blueprint to go by as you develop it. I see space for a huge vegetable garden near the garage. That would be a good expansion from your current cold frame. And I do like your plan for a patio behind the garage at the foot of the stairs. You also could consider a swimming pool when your children are old enough. Lots of potential still remains for the yard and even inside the house, particularly the basement. Your videos encourage me to keep watching to see what you do next!
I got my Polywood set this spring from Bachman’s in Minnesota. I love it! Much more reasonably priced than that other recycled plastic Yard furniture company, and really beautiful. Mine came already built by Bachman’s. I’m sure it will last the rest of my lifetime, at least! Thanks for the tour!

oh yeah, I just got some books at the library to start researching what we need to do!
Fruit trees
