I thought Lady Fuji was based on Ryuusei-in, the only member of Toyotomi Hidetsugu’s family who was spared after Toyotomi Hideyoshi (known as the Taiko in Shogun) ordered his nephew and family to commit seppuku. This is the incident of mass seppuku that is usually included when telling the story of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga). Ryuusei-in later became concubine to the great warrior Sanada Yukimura and they both played key roles in the siege of Osaka castle.

Moeka Hoshi's acting as Fuji is miles above the one from the 1980's version. Aside from being cuter, her nuanced "eye-acting" and face micro-expressions impressed a lot of people, and made her a fan favorite.

If you're saying that the actress from 1980, Hiromi Senno, was bad, I disagree with you. I think she did a great job, in spite of the limitations placed on her. Moeka Hoshi was amazing, and was able to play the character the way Lady Fuji was intended. That's a lot of the difference

@@WaltMussell I've never said that the actress from 1980, Hiromi Senno, was bad. Her performance was just OK, nothing really memorable. It's just that Moeka Hoshi's performance, for a lot of reasons, is much, much better (and actually memorable).

Well, I have read the book, and seen the 1980 version... I also thought that Hiromi Senno was cute in her role, although she had only a small part, compared to Moeka Hoshi.... When this 2024 version started, I was not impressed with ANY of the ensemble... But when Fujiko pointed the gun.... Suddenly we all fell in love with her... As the episodes went along, it seems that, worldwide, we all found her to be very cute...If she became a nun, then, maybe in a second season, Blackthorne can petition Toranaga, to let Fujiko become his wife, and Blackthorne promise to stay in Japan, and supervise the building of a fleet of Western style ships....This would conform to what is known about Adams... At least, this way, we would all be charmed again by Fujiko...

I was blown away by Lady Fuji from the first episode, but the world does fall in love with her when she points the gun

@@WaltMussell Basically, she is very cute.... But all the others seem to be scheming, conniving people... Yes, we all love Fujiko... The only improvement on the 1980 version, as far as I can tell....

@@AlistairClark99 The problem was... The filming was done in West coast of Canada, where it seemed to be raining for much of the time... The 1980 version was filmed in Japan... But, for the 2024 version, they couldn't find any suitable locations for filming, as everywhere was build up with motorways, railways and residential areas... So they had to hire some private parks in Canada, and recreate a 1600 environment...

@@AlistairClark99 They did a great job with that.
