I think one of the funniest aspect of this case is that the jury returned verdicts on 76 counts in about 3 hours. That's about 2.5 minutes per verdict, including any breaks. Just going through and signing the forms would take at least 30 minutes, That tells me that there was absolutely no disagreement in the jury room.
I think the major "sticking point" was the last charge. It is also the only charge they requested to re-watch evidence for on the second day. It should also be said that these jurors were apparently willing to WORK, because they requested evidence late into the first day and elected a very late stopping time when the judge clearly gave them the option to break whenever they felt like it. So it is safe to assume they didn't argue a lot, just made sure among themselves that everybody was in agreement on EVERY charge - you know, to be thorough.
I bet sitting there and hearing all the verdicts was the real punishement for him, he could'nt object or argue for more than an hour. Only thing left was staring at jury in pathetic way.
I mean, despite his crimes, we all must admit, he was GREAT on this prosecution. He really did work hard towards convicting himself, and proving his instability, evilness, and guilt.

How about his ‘double jeopardy’ defense. Betcha he never opened a file when he went back to his cell each day - he never had a question prepared. Those files were all prepared by the lawyers assigned by the Court that he fired.
Not a chance. That wasn’t an actually applicable instance of the concept of double jeopardy, it was yet another example of the type of law he knew - from TV shows and movies, “jailhouse lawyers,” cursory Wikipedia searches, and conspiracy theory/fringe pseudolegal nonsense like civil sovereignty.

Omg , thank god someone said it’s ‘sustain’ and not ‘Substain’ I haven’t heard a channel who covered this case mention that he kept saying it incorrectly. It was hurting my ears every time.
Grounds for the substained, your honor. Lol. What's astounding to me, is that he actually thought he was sympathetic and likeable enough that the jury would have any desire to nullify on his behalf. I'm relatively certain they hated him as much as everyone else does.
Let us not forget everyone... Darrell Brooks is the guy who objects to being called that name... Refuses to be addressed by that name... The name of Darrell Brooks 🤷♀️
I'm not a lawyer, so can someone help me understand how someone can claim to be a sovereign citizen and then say they have constitutional rights? If you are not under the jurisdiction of that government, then how can you claim protection from its constitution?
There are different flavors of sovereign citizen, but the general gist is that the United States sort of.... stopped being the US. This was either shortly after the Civil War when the US unlawfully created a new set of Southern States (their view, not mine), or after the US abandoned the gold standard and became some sort of corporation (again, their view, not mine), or a couple other examples. But long story short, their view is that the government as it currently is is invalid, and as such only laws (usually up to the 14th Amendment, if I remember right) are applicable. So, in Brooks' mind, Wisconsin for all legal intents and purposes doesn't exist and can't enforce any law. Mind, not only is he obviously, stupidly wrong, but he also doesn't seem to really understand a lot of sovereign beliefs (his whole "I accept for value" thing), and he's also wildly hypocritical - he kept saying he was allowed to say whatever he wanted to say under the First Amendment but wanted to shut down everything the prosecution wanted to say, for instance. Hope that helps.
Sov/cits usually believe the laws of a state or nation do not apply to them (i.e. just like a sovereign), however they also believe they are entitled to the rights, protections, and privileges that a state or nation provides (i.e. just like a citizen).
It's really quite fascinating. I've heard some of them actually argue that the judge has abandoned ship and this is a mutany. I've heard some of them call police officers road pirates. It's quite a fascinating rabbit hole to go down. You find yourself laughing and banging your head against the floor, (because it's harder than the wall) while trying to understand the insanity of it all. While it starts out rather amusing, some of them become dangerous. There have been judges, public officials, officer's, and others who've become targets of the more unhinged believers.
He is a narcissist plain and simple this reminds me of old footage of Ted Bundy playing games and representing himself! He comes off as a know it all but he really knows nothing.
I also noticed the officer, his face and demeanor didn’t change a bit. I didn’t even see him rolling his eyes. When Brooks would go on one of his temper tantrums I was yelling at the television, but not once did I see the officer react. Well done officer!
This trial was hilarious, I think he really thought he was gonna hold up the court. Weather you agree or disagree with the judge there is still a process, DB thought he could delay that process but he ended up playing himself.

That jury nullification thing really hits home with me. I'm a prosecutor in a small rural county and I had a trial where a young man (21 or 22) was accused of burglary. We had it on video - he broke into the store, he shoved as much beer as he he could down his pants and carried out two more cases, but all the jury found him guilty for was petty theft. Their reasoning: He's just a young man and didn't *_need_* a felony burglary on his record. All that did was encourage him to do commit more crimes because he thought he could get away with them even if caught. Now he's in prison for 10 years after being convicted of his 5th DUI offense, so at least karma caught up to him.
It was really bugging me how he was trying to use the judge being a "publis servant" against her. I don't think he knows what that actually means. He probably thought she was his "servant" and had to do everything he requests🤦🏽
Also, if he is considering himself a sovereign citizen, then why did he keep talking about the constitution. If your a sovereign citizen, you wouldn't follow the constitution 🤪
That actually isn't entirely true. Most sovereign citizens CLAIM to abide by the constitution (though they openly ignore large portions of it -- which is the basis as to why courts will say their stance is baseless as it's entirely based on contradiction), but don't recognize much of anything else in terms of laws.
This judge is so wonderful and deserves a metal!!Brooks just couldn't stop hurting people and went after the Judge!!Prayers to everyone..Thankyou for explaining "grounds",I wasn't sure..
If Brooks had been able to argue jury nullification, and the jury had taken that to say that they need not listen to the facts presented at the trial but instead to go with their emotions, how did he really think that could go in favor for him?
Right? he really thought that because the concept exists, if he mentions it then they would feel compelled to go down that route. Thats not how jury nullification typically works lol
Yeah and he didn't even offer an implausible exculpatory narrative about how he didn't do it. Or any real mitigating circumstances. Some of that stuff was mentioned at sentencing. But in terms of the jury, he basically just asked a few questions victims could really identify who was driving. Tried to suggest the barricades made it impossible for someone to drive through. Just stuff that would never even hint at him not being completely legally complicit
I absolutely loved it on the day of sentencing, seeing him shackled and in prison clothes looking absolutely devastated. I take no joy in the suffering of others but due his clear lack of remorse, and by his own statement saying his "Conscience is clear" in his closing statement and that he "Has no regrets". I couldn't help but feel a bit of happiness for the families finally getting SOME closure

I think one of the funniest aspect of this case is that the jury returned verdicts on 76 counts in about 3 hours. That's about 2.5 minutes per verdict, including any breaks.

As soon as I found out he thinks he's a sovereign citizen, it all made sense.
Bet he came up with that while awaiting trial. Turning over every stone to get out of this.
“I wasn’t driving, I was TRAVELLING through the crowd.”
Another innocent boat captain harassed by road pirates
Except when he thinks his Constitutional rights are being violated.
He's a blacc Supreme
Judge had to straight up give a lesson in how some of the most basic components of trials work to try and shut Brooks up LOL
So what he tried
@@louloubelle1330 he disrespected the court, our justice system, and the victims.
@@bretthousman8317 The court and our justice system doesn't automatically deserve respect, the victims certainly do.
@@rendkee11 a civil society needs a respectable court. Don't blame the court for BS laws.
The judge messed up plenty of times herself
As someone who’s being on a jury for a murder trial, I can’t begin to imagine having to sit through and listen to this narcissistic sociopath defend himself in court for weeks whilst not displaying a single shred of remorse or personal responsibility for what he did and what that must have been like for both the survivors and the families of those whose life he took.
What a complete waste of time & public money. Foot him the bill.
Unfortunately he only had 4 dollars, his 1st ever Iphone (cracked) off his momma, mommas car (his home) and erikas food stamps so good luck with that!!!
Regarding showing remorse: Well, he was crying during his closing argument. But I couldn't tell whether he was genuinely sorry for what he did or whether he was crying because he knew he was going to be found guilty.
@@nagilumsnangilima A huge part of remorse in admitting to actions and apologizing. None to both in this case. And his closing statement making everything about himself - what can be a clearer proof of the nature of his tears
@@nagilumsnangilima I think he was either trying to be manipulative and make a plea for sympathy from the jury, or he was just sad for himself. He also cried when his mother and grandmother spoke on his behalf, despite literally rolling his eyes at all the victims.
Yeah send it to his supportive mother😂😂😂🙄😒😤😤
Former assistant prosecutor here, I never had a jury go rogue. I sorry your jury took did not follow the instructions. Usually, jurors get it.
It was really bugging me how he was trying to use the judge being a "publis servant" against her. I don't think he knows what that actually means. He probably thought she was his "servant" and had to do everything he requests🤦🏽
@@elock1277 You serious? Lmfao
@@elock1277 what a weird comment
Let me get that for you...
Pos*
There, fixed it. Youre welcome .
At first I thought poc was Piece of Crap.
@@joantinker1693 Sir, may I direct you to POS....😉
(I thought POC meant the same....)
My point.
This.
@@C.M.Giordano sounds like an oxymoron to me
@@sickofem2 exactly!
He’s so worried about not seeing his kids that he doesn’t see anyway, so how wonderful of him to provide so much content for them to watch. Lol
Yeah I’m sure the families he ruined wanted to see their kids too
Lmmfao "I miss my kids I've seen less than ten times"
He also tried to negotiate a shorter sentence, since he had already been in for a year, what a genius
This judge is so wonderful and deserves a metal!!Brooks just couldn't stop hurting people and went after the Judge!!Prayers to everyone..Thankyou for explaining "grounds",I wasn't sure..
Judge: "Mr. Brooks, you are not competent to represent yourself."
Brooks: "GROUNDS?"
Judge: "You misspelled 'law' on your competency exam."
lmfao
Subject matter jurisdiction?
MEGA PINTTTTT 🍷🍷🍷🍷
Objection!!
Sustained.
Er.....then I object to the objection being sustained....or something.
Probably.
Mind boggling 😂
"Hmmm, based on the facts, I should find him guilty on all counts, but based on emotions, I should find him guilty on all counts."
I feel the same.
Man had nothing to lose.. I’m surprised he didn’t bring out a dictionary and just start reading it aloud just because
He would’ve gotten stuck too many times on the big words
🤣🤣🤣🤣 funniest comment on this thread 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They forgot to charge him for the 77th criminal charge. That rap song.
Yes, that bidness was criminal.
Actually, that is my new jam. Embarrassed to say that I became a fan of his music during these proceedings. Love his flow. I hope he continues with it. Should have time now, am I right? Looking forward to his appeal.
@@beckydoesit9331 I hope your deaf......or kidding....that would be the only excuse accepted for this comment.
Oh and he stole the beat too...he may actually get charged for it, if the copyright holder wants to be petty.
Darrell Brooks was able to binge watch “Better Call Saul” while being incarcerated and said to himself, “that doesn’t look that hard, I can do this on my own!” 🤣🤣
That's giving Better Call Saul far too little credit. Brooks displayed CBS police procedural tier cluelessness.
yknow the master lawyer of that show, its namesake, still needed _his_ own lawyer when he was put on trial in season 3
so yeah, says a lot about the chances our friend darrell had
You know what? I actually almost admire his confidence to attempt to defend himself in a mass murder trial. It's so ridiculous, that no one has ever done it before to my knowledge. He tried so valiantly, and he failed so epically.
While lying in bed thinking about the law firm he will open after his not guilty verdict 🙄🙄🙄🙄
DB: I'm not stupid
Best judge ever: I disagree with that sir
So true!
remember when he decided to tell the jury about jury nullification and then they decided to nullify his freedom?
….good times 😏
Good times indeed...
This made me chuckle 😂😂
Can doesn't mean will.
Pepperidge Farms remembers…
BROOKS: Make sure you make a decision you can live with.
JURY: We think we will be alright on that one sir....(sniggers)
He will live on in classrooms for ever on what not to do as a lawyer
“I haven’t seen him turn a page yet”, now that’s gold 🤣🤣
(The judge said this while reading an other outburst into the record. Brooks was seen holding a bible)
That was freaking hilarious!!!
I missed that part! When did she say that?! I watched the whole trial and I missed that part?! 😂
Haha I love Judge Dorow !!!
Brooks: Your honor I haven't read this. Could you explain it to me? Explain it to me!
