Nope! Judge Dorow allowed this criminal manipulator to control and debase her Courtroom and the rule of law. Countless times she demurred and cowered before Defendant Brooks. By participating with his unending circular arguments, she encouraged it. Judge Dorow should have stood up to Brooks Day one of the trial. Everybody: You stone-cold murdered six people -- grannies, a grandpa, and a little boy. We could not possibly hate you more than we already do. Darrell Brooks: Hold my beer.
I mean when you're served up a sovereign citizen, you don't have to try too hard, the prosecution just has to give him enough rope to hang himself. It also has the added benefit of making everyone in that courtroom hate him at the same time. Making the jury give him the worst punishment.
People were wondering why the judge was allowing him to misbehave. It was because she knew what he was trying to do, he wanted to get under her skin for her to react so there would be mistrial or at the very least he would delay the case, especially by getting contempt of court. Instead she was a rock and he grew increasingly frustrated when his life long tactics and immature attempts at intimidation and disrespect failed to delay matters as she only ever replied curtly with the minimal responses required under law. He instead only dug himself deeper and once he had done so sufficiently, she stuck him in a box with a mic and camera, muting him during rants. Now he's recieved multiple life sentences.
Yea, a brilliant lawyer that defended himself into multiple life sentences where he will rot and die behind bars . Made me laugh at him smile at him spit at him and ultimately congratulate him for defending himself.

Agreed. I was shocked bc it seemed as though he was leading up to telling the jury someone was in the back seat holding him at gunpoint forcing him to run over all those people.
Kinda depends on how you look at it. Letting him defend himself was an absolute nightmare for the judge, prosecutors, the victims and their families and anyone else in the courtroom with him. Thing is, as much of a nightmare as it was, it was a temporary nightmare. He could only stall and drag things out for so long. Eventually, the trial and (once he was found guilty) sentencing would commence. At that point, it became a blessing that he defended himself. At the time, I think I remember reading or hearing an attorney say that an actual lawyer probably could have kept him from getting convicted on some of the charges, including the more serious ones. He was never going to be completely acquitted and honestly, was always gonna have to serve a long time. But it's not inconceivable that with even a barely competent actual lawyer, he would have gotten a sentence that would have eventually let him go free. The way the trial actually unfolded showed what a narcissistic sociopath he is. It took away any benefit of the doubt that an actual lawyer might have been able to present and with that, he got sentenced to so many years that even the judge acknowledged that some of the sentencing was symbolic.

That guy looking over Brooks' right shoulder and not breaking his role as a court bailif deserves recognition, as he certainly showed outstanding discipline throughout this trial. And that judge needs a few weeks off to clear the cobwebs from that PoS.
When he "apologized" he was doing what is called Narcissistic Hoovering. It is when a narcissist feels like his aggression is pushing his target away, and then he begins trying to pull them back in with artificial kindness/empathy. The pushing/pulling is what makes the narcissist so unhealthy to their targets.
Brooks is so quick to jump on something that he perceives to be unfair to him so he can play victim. At the same time, he totally ignores or disregards the chaos and carnage he caused. I just can't fathom his mindset.

She did handle herself well but that is her job. While it would be difficult to maintain composure in her position, doing so doesn't make her deserving of a raise. Judges already get paid too much. She doomed him by keeping her cool and keeping him as an active participant of the trial in a separate courtroom. He sought an appeal in a higher court, but he got a fair trial.

@@definitionsupervillain4583 Sets a very dangerous precedence to allow someone to be this unruly in a courtroom. However, her patience means that he has zero grounds for an appeal and it convinced the jury as to what type of man they were convicting. Ultimately, the judge won and Brooks lost, very badly. Expect to see a different attitude from the judge on Monday during the sentencing. He is no longer a free man but a convicted child murderer. She is going to tear him to pieces and he won’t be able to say anything.
The judge was too lenient. He disgraced the courtroom and should have been penalized right from the start.
He would appeal if she shut him down and now he has no grounds to appeal and prolong imprisonment.
@@jamesduffy7799 She was selected for this case based on her past record likely specifically BECAUSE she has a high level of patience. She was tolerant and patient to prevent him from having any fodder for appeal or mistrial.

Yea he clearly has major issues, mentally, cognitively, emotionally…. Not sure why everyone was put through this charade of a trial….
The whole trial was as if it were a child representing himself. This judge is a saint. Not only did she not lose her temper over his arguing and interrupting, she also did not laugh at some of the extremely strange things he did and said (such as the box fort incident, which had me in tears), and finally she did not let the erratic behavior distract her from the monstrous crime he committed. Someone give her a raise.
She did handle herself well but that is her job. While it would be difficult to maintain composure in her position, doing so doesn't make her deserving of a raise. Judges already get paid too much. The state I live in district Court judges, appeals court judges and juvenile court judges all make over 200k a year. The governor of my state doesn't even make that much.

When you find out about his criminal history it really gives you a deeper insight into this Mr.Brooks. What he did was reprehensible! How he represented himself and what he put this community through during this court case was deplorable, disrespectful, repugnant, unpardonable, unforgivable!

That was my feeling too. The Judge dealt with him with "kid gloves" because she didn't want to open the door for any issues on appeal. If she was rude, shouting him down, denying him this and that, he could argue on appeal that it was a hostile environment.

I think my favourite part of the whole thing (aside from the verdicts) was near the end when he was in a different room and he said “am I muted?” And the judge said “no”.
