Excellent video. I've played Stick since 1994 and I agree with what Pascal said, it's not the kind of instrument you just move to, it takes time to learn. The rewards though are amazing and the instrument never ceases to amaze me in what can be done in various scenarios. I say it's a life lesson playing the Stick, you learn something new every day.
Couldn't have said it better Captn. Yes it's a small channel, but I love doing it, and it's not monetized yet but I have a few ideas in the pipeline for the next few years. So yes, if you know of anyone who would be interested, please share 🙂
Was thinking about selling my Chapman stick I just got from stick.com 2 years ago, but maybe I'll hold on to it a while longer after seeing you play it well
1:45 Actually the logic with the middle string-or the fact that the lowest string is in the middle- is to be able to play a bass note and a chord or pattern with the remaining fingers of the left hand on the guitar side as well as on the bass side
@@TheStringdom maybe so, but it's not hard to get used to it at all. I think it'd be harder if for example the notes would get lower the higher you go up the fretboard- or something like that. Or playing bass with the right hand...anyway, here's a link to a video of the creator of the stick playing a theme in which he plays the lower notes with fingers 1-2 of the left hand (anchor) and with fingers 3-4 part of a pattern on the guitar side th-cam.com/video/PqbS6BLfJpo/w-d-xo.html
I have done one on the harpejji, I actually met the inventor! You can find it on the channel if you haven't already. And yes I'm actually planning a trip to China later in the year to film some interviews. Stay tuned! :)
This channel is awesome. I love the variety of instruments, and I'm learning about many I've never heard before. Out of curiosity, who plays the "Pressed for Time" intro song?
Stephen Welch actually it's me (James Hodson) and its not pressed for time (although I do love that tune), it's actually a small bit of a piece of mine called Around Finsbury Park. Currently working on a guitar and mandolin album of original pieces. I'll probably spam you all here on the channel when it's out 😁
Thank you! Yes I've been a bit slack lately but I have about 5 or 6 more interviews on the hard drive, just getting the time to get them edited. But stay tuned, there are some good ones in there. I need to get a few of them translated as well (exotic!)
I would love to get a Chapman Stick one day, I'm very inspired by players of the Stick and I like to apply stick-like tapping techniques to guitar, but I'd have to practice a bit more, especially with when polyrythms and breaking chords between the two hands are concerned.

I do so enjoy hearing how well the Stick sounds in the hands of someone with experience and talent. Much respect for how well you play, Pascal!
Listening to Pascal's beautiful playing makes me realise just how much further I have to go as a Stick player.
He certainly does know what he's doing!
for such a small channel. the quality of the videos are really really high
You can share the love.

Can't believe I didn't find this earlier , I knew about Pascal , this is a great video. Inspiring. Gotta go practice!
I've been hoping you'd do one on the chapman stick!
Yep it was only a matter of time! Thanks for watching!
Need one!
Genius :) I wish I could get mine to sound like that!
Fantastic!

Yes its a great setup, a little counter-intuitive to a guitarist who is used to seeing the strings in ascending order.

trippy, cool song
Great playing man!
Great channel, I would love to see the harpejji, the Guzheng, the erhu, and the harp guitar if you can find one. ;) Keep it up!

@@TheStringdom I saw the harpejji episode, great stuff! Can't what to see what all you find in China!

What kind of wood is his Stick made out of? Is that Maple?
i used to have a chapman stick ... but Pascal is far better than me - beautiful song
Don't feel bad, I think Pascal is better than the vast majority of Chapman stick players :) Great writer too!
This guy is just too cool for school..

wondering if his handwrists are aching, I prefer a more neutral posture
pascal! is that particular stick made of bamboo , perhaps maple?
this guy kills with stare

Why is the head movement common with stick players ?
Not sure about that , but they are so much fun I can't help but move!
