      True, he is just brilliant, but I think the choice of song is not popular.
      It is always important to have the right song choice at an exhibition.

    • @danguee1
      @danguee1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Music is subjective. And our liking of stuff depends on taste. I don't like what he's done. I have a very broad mind when it comes to music - jazz, classical, world, prog, brass band, Latin etc. I just don't like this - too noisy, too busy. Virtuouso, sure, but I'm of the school that thinks less is more - and that he certainly ain't!

    This particular instrument is a dark bamboo Grand Stick in the Classic tuning with a high bass 4th, hybrid EMG melody/Stickup bass.
    Hope that answers the question, and thank for the interest.

    This is one of the advantages of using the Stick's more common "crossed" hand orientation. By reaching over the strings both hands have access to the whole instrument all the time.
    Glad you like it.

    I was at NAMM in Anaheim in 1997 and Greg played "Tomorrow Never Knows" right in front of me (I was the only one watching) and I was struck stupid by his playing. A stiff wind could have knocked me over. My jaw dropped and I had goosebumps. Greg is the best I've seen on the Stick. Trey Gunn is excellent too as is Rob Martino. But I gotta say Greg is the master. Beyond belief.

    This guy came to our writing camp at UVA in the mid-80's and played for us. He told us all about this strange contraption he had, and let the more musically curious of us see what we could get out of it. I've remembered him ever since, and still have the cassette tape I bought from him! He deserves so much more recognition. He's amazing. His "Blue Ridge" is one of my favorites. And you know what--he hasn't aged a day, either!

    I just love the deep sonorous tone of the bass, especially with that reverb, and then an almost banjo-like trebble towards the ending. A truely versatile instrument and I am loving diving through youtube surfing a sound wave and finding musicians I never knew of before who are delighting me at every turn. Fabulous. Thank you.

    I discovered Greg Howard and the Chapman Stick at Enigma Garden Cafe, an "old-school" (nothing like Starbux) style coffee house near downtown Las Vegas. It must have been 1994 or 1995 (Maybe Greg will chime in and tell me for sure when it was.) There were maybe 30 people there. Having been a guitar player most of my life, I was blown away.

    This is my current favorite song. My current favorite new find as an artist. Exposed to this instrument via Tony Levin and KC (also Trey Gunn) in the early 80's. Took me about three years for someone to explain to me that I was not listening to a bass guitar. My fascination with this instrument in his hands made this my favorite musical instrument. This technique is even broader. I bet you make Emmett proud. Headed to your website, hopefully to do some Christmas shopping.
