Raymond Shorten victims give impact statement at sentence hearing

50-year-old taxi driver Raymond Shorten who targeted vulnerable women on their way home at night will be sentenced later this month for rape.
On Monday, Shorten listened as two victim impact statements were read to a court and a Judge heard that he has already been convicted of other serious sexual offences.
Crime World’s Clodagh Meaney was at the Central Criminal Court to hear the proceedings and today she talks to Nicola about the impact his crimes have had on his victims.

Unbelievable the amount of young girls crashed out from too much alcohol in the back of my taxi overtheyears. I always go to the nearest garda station and get a guard to wake them up

Jesus, how grim. He reminds me of John Worboys (UK) who r*ped at least 100 women who he lured with dr*g-laced champagne.
Agree with Clodagh here, a woman can't take it granted that getting in a taxi with a stranger will be safe. And Clodagh - you're a strong woman yourself sitting through that evidence. Trials appear so traumatising, not only to the direct victims.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nicola's correct and more women come forward about this particular fella, sadly.
