thx for all the posts on the topic. Finally went to repair shop checked prices of a complete set of backlights understanding the problem. Was made in 2017 so with a price of $160 was a pretty good refurbish with a 3-month warranty. yeap took about an hour but i brought it in for a bit of a discount. Was able to confirm backlight problem with all the info from all your t.v. guys.
Thank you, good video. I use to work on TV for years, but never a flat screen. Someone gave me a large one, and everything look good in the power supply, so it has to be in the lights. I know what to do now, so many thanks my friend!!!!!
Interesting is that you can use the diode setting on a DMM to test each LED individually and not require a lab power supply. I'm not sure all LED strips have individual LED test positions/points. Thanks for sharing. Maybe using two 3V next to each other would work better if worried about voltage loss on luminosity low.
he did that and it created a bight spot, on the other one he just put a single 3v in and it worked better, entire brightness down by a little. each led losing a miniscule amount of brightness, but at least its even doing it that way. i admit if it were me i would have done the two 3v in parallel to match 6v too though..
awesome work dude. my tv has one led that is flickering occasionally, so it is on its way out i think. now when it dies completely i will know how to fix it! thanks :-)
I fixed the board on my mine a couple years ago quick 30 minutes. But no way is this even worth it with great video very instructive by this repair is at least $300 on the low side for labor.
here they ask 200$ problem is i was not sure if it's the led's could have replaced myself. Since it is plug and play. Now if i see flickering i'll know i can buy 1 kit, that is 8 strips of lights for a 47 inch with 30$.
Interesting. I've seen a very similar problem of image rapidly flashing on and off on a tv (everything else working fine, sound, changing channels, etc), and the problem was the lvds cable (which connects the mainboard to the tcon). It seems like you went straight to the LEDs without even conducting a preliminary test. It would suck if all the work of accessing the LEDs was for naught.
Bonjour. J’ai commandé le kit led complet pour la même télé. J’espère pouvoir les remplacer sans trop de difficulté. Je suppose que les bandeaux sont collés. Merci pour cette vidéo. Je sais comment démontrer la télé.
video is awesome, when i put back the panel i cracked one corner, bummer; before you guys start the job you need a lot of space where to put the parts; you can find the leds on ebay ~40$
how did you work out what voltage they were? in a manual or something, or was it written on one of the led's or on the strip somewhere, or is there some way of working out their ideal voltage by checking resistance or something?
I checked on aliexpress for replacement parts and found there are 2 models for these kind of TV, 3V and 6V. Then I tested to power one LED first with 3V, which did nothing, then I used 6V. That's how I figured that out
My TVs screen is fine but the image flickers like it pops up and goes away constantly I can see everything on the screen for a second then it goes away and come back
My LG went out last weekend. Having to use an old box tv until I can get a new one. Only way I can watch the LG is to turn it off, then turn it back on. You can see the picture for 5-10 seconds before the screen goes black. The volume still works & you can still change the channel. Just no pic longer that a few seconds.
I tried to apply voltage directly on the LED. Starting with lower voltage. I applied voltage on a 4 LED strip, so I started with 12V, then increased until the LED turned on.
Hey PB I have a LG 55ln5400 the back light at the joint really took hit(burned up) the reflector back board has burned marks on it too. Do you know where to order that part from or can I just paint it with high gloss paint ??? Great video!
To Pierre Boyer. hey bud, I have an LG 43 in. That backlights when turning on the set flashes and goes off and look like it's a backlight issue but it is not a back light issue bc all the backlights turn on when checked w a backlight tester. Actually, when I got the T.V. set it worked fine. Only problem was when I cut the T.V. on 3 lines would show on the left side of the screen. Anyway, I opened up the set to clean the screen panels, the boards and the entire inside. I assembled everything back together and it turned on, the lines was still there as expected. I took the set down stairs to the play room to use for P.S.System and the set would not turn on, just the flash of the backlights and that is all. Would you be able to help me w what the problem may be? Thank You, my brother!
Those tiny white plastic tabs that we have to remove in order to see the led lights, they are such a hassle. When putting the white sheets back, can we just use double sided tape?
Maybe a silly question, but I'm not an electrician. I wanna open my LED tv but I don't know if there's an electric shock hazard when you open one of this like with CRT tvs or no? Thanks.
Yes there is an electric shock hazard with the power supply board. The capacitors can hold power for a long time. I tell about it in the video by the way.
Dear Pierre, Have you got the purchasing codes of LEDs used by Samsung TV to be ordered as spare parts? I am referring to Samsung model UE 32F 5000 AK. I would like to know the voltage as well if you know it. Thank you. Regards.
J have the 39 inch model of this tv, occasionally the backlight comes on and stays on but then after a period of time it goes off again. Do you think it could be the power board?
what minimum power supply do i need for this? did you solder the individual LED's or replaced the whole strip? since the leds are cheap, would it be worth it to just replace all leds instead of checking for the faulty one, since i dont own a power supply? if you can answer my questions, thank you in advance
1) For the 4 led strip, 6 volts per led, in total 24 volts for the 4 led strip, for the 5 led strip, 6 volts per led, in total 30 volts for the 5 led strip 2) He soldered the led individualy, he didn't replace the whole strip 3) If you have the tools to solder, then its cheaper to replace the led, but if you don't have the tools to solder, buying the strip will be cheaper.
my toshiba 47inch led tv showing black screen, have replaced the burnt led strips to new one but it fails to light up, it turns on sometimes, sometimes it wont just a flash and full dead ,at the time of backlit fail i checked the standby voltage read 5v but 12v and 13v are showing 0v and at the led strips voltage drops from 100v to 0v , at the time of lights up the led strips are getting 108v to 114 v and all the values from the t con were good. any idea whats the problem it has ?

If all the LED are ok when tested then it probably means the problem comes from the LED power supply. Which is usually on the main power supply PCB.
