Excited to go out in the field and spending an hour just to get that poor, winded tractor to fire up. It set me on the career path of “farmer”. I was a country boy at heart who was stuffed in the middle of a big shitty city. All I knew about farming was from him. He died of cancer a few years back. I’m 14 now. I moved out to the middle of nowhere and have been working at a dairy farm for a year or so now. I plant, manure spread and fix all the stuff that breaks. I drive a Case International 5230 to work and back now. Up at 4:30 just to do my home chores and make it to work on time. I bought a 35hp tractor and have been using that at home to mow and manage the driveway along with other small tasks like hauling wood. I’m trying to live out the dream I had once. New shit isn’t worth the headaches. A $20 sensor going bad takes hours to fix because you have to call the dealer and get a mechanic out there. Then he has to hook up his laptop to it, find out what’s wrong, and then you have to pray that they even have the part you need in stock back at their shop! These new machines have so many parts that it’s impossible for a dealer to stock all of them. Back in the old days they were so easy to fix and rarely ever had problems in the first place. Also combine fires are becoming more and more common with these newer models.
