- ...Boom. Mike actually setup a show worthy of a premiere - this wasn't even that hard (the Jeep was a gimme in particular). And then Sharon and her group REALLY knew what they were doing.
Included at the end is an easy Double Prices setup (put in Contestant's Row position as the entire stage otherwise was still covered) and then one of 10 classic clips coming up this week (I'm assuming 2 a day like today). Check priceisright.com daily this week to see them all.
3X was a welcome surprise 6th, the first Big 3 to move out of 1st in a very long time, but as it was well overdue for a loss, the Porsche Boxster ($53,416) got as far as 53xxx. The player killed himself trying everything but the 1 in the 1st slot... I understand exhausting possibilities, but try pricing the car too, especially with these harder rules. Oh well, it was due as I said and the sting is virtually lost when you see this.
History I can come up with on the spot:
-$78,519 in a pricing game is clearly the most won by any non-Golden Road game (and maybe in the future if we're super lucky, Pay the Rent). Triple Play had a low 70s win once on the S30 Las Vegas show if I recall my TH-cam adventures right, but definitely not close to 80. 3 Strikes caps out in the 50s even on primetime.
-First time 4 cars has ever been offered at once, anywhere.
-Racey gets justification to get played 1st for the first time ever. A stopdown was probably required somewhere to load the cars and the game in - so something special like this was needed as rational for the slotting.
-Don't recall any time when the tags were behind the curtain (also for a good reason here).

Race Game offering 4 cars in 1st Pricing Game!! Sharon Baker won in 13 seconds. Way to start off our 40th Season Price is Right.
What a surprise on this 40th season premiere, on the first bid someone got it on the nose, & won four cars on the Race Game(on the first try). And even she can't get all the prices match, she could win either one or two cars, unlike Triple Play, when the game is all or nothing. And that was the first six minutes of the season.
I was SO disappointed she didn't make it to the showcase! This was indeed the best part of the show.
I bet the reason why she was calm about winning was because she was total shock. Just think about it. 1. She was called on down to be a contestant on The Price is Right. 2 She won $500 just for getting the bid on the nose. 3. She just won all 4 cars playing Race Game on the nose in 13 seconds. All that could put someone in total shock and make them look calm. Plus just looking at her face I think she was not sure what to think of it, she kept putting her hands on her chest as if she was going to faint so all in all it probably was surreal to her.

I thought it was going to be more than $80,000 worth of cars until I noticed the $16,000 tag. I added it all up and it's still a pretty impressive total of $78,519 worth of cars. I just showed this to my mom too, and she just gaped.
More or Less and Step Up could also be played for 4 cars. They could also play Line 'Em Up for four cars. Instead of using three small prizes, use three other cars. Of course that would make the game MUCH, MUCH harder.since you have to price the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th digits with five choices of numbers each.
Season 40 is sooo much bling-bling-bling :D

That's more cars than could have been given away in Triple Play. And i don't want to bring this up, but had this been on a $1,000,000 spectacular, with Sharon hitting it on the first go round, she would have won in cash and prizes a total of $1,078,519.
Seems as though they should have played Danger Price, Take Two, or Shopping Spree. Danger and Spree would have required a bit of a staging change, however, and Take and Spree would have required making room for five digits on their displays, or having Drew keep track of the ten thousands digit in the total of the cars picked. Problem with Race Game for four cars is that someone would get one or two right and decide not to change any more prices and risk ending up with zero right with time up.
Egads, whoever was in charge of getting the cars in place for Race had quite the tall order for this episode!

Has anyone ever noticed throughout the shows history that anyone who usually wins it extremely big on their own game (Golden Road, Triple Play, etc), they never make it to the Showcase Showdown? Atleast that's what I noticed.
Now let's take this person for example. She won $80,000 in prizes in 5 minutes. Imagine if she took that to the Showcase Showdown and won it (or better yet, both). Wonder why such things never happen that way?
i agree this setup was so easy it was a gimmie plus she won it with 32 seconds left so this goes down in history and in 18th season they played 3 strikes as the 5th game (make your move was 1st played for a car) but the showcases were good (especially the one with the camaro 2LT conv. that cost at least 32,775). one more thing. no special dings were playing when sharon won 4 cars

It's nice to see vintage Bob again on TV, even briefly. I'm a little surprised that a clip the first episode made it on, but I guess when the offending part is cut out, you can get away with it.
She won almost over $80,000 by winning all four cars. It is $79,687 (because she won $500 for getting the exact bid on Contestant's Row).

This may be the first time in many years that we got a closeup of the Race Game clock; I didn't know that they painted a black square around it (maybe to allow the cameras more room for error when shooting it?). I had always thought they made the window for the timer bigger.

Wait, I know, Showcase Showdown = Big Wheel LOL, can't believe I forgot that. I mean the big Showcase. I've always referred to it as the Big Wheel, and to think I've watched the show alot.
Still my point does stand, why is it we never see anyone who wins massively big make it all the way to the final Showcase?
I'm surprised they played "3 Strikes" in the same episode that "Race Game" was played for four cars. I know "3 Strikes" wasn't won, but if it were? Would the show's budget have busted?
They could have played More or Less for four cars if they wanted.

Exactly. I don't see how she can keep all four cars unless she has a five to six figure annual salary job. I just don't see the point in paying all these taxes.
Christopher Howell If her family wants new cars all they have to do is put money together give it to her and she pays the taxes on them and 4 people get new cars for a few thousand bucks each. It's not as bad as people think, but you gotta think ahead or think quick after you have won.
I've wondered if those groups of people that go to the show, with like 6 to 10 people, if they come up with a plan, I think it's really easy if you go as a group that you agree that you all put in say 1000 bucks each, , small investment for each person, but as a group you have a good chunk of money, so everyone puts money in in case one of the group gets picked out and wins something, that person uses that money to pay for the taxes, gets the prize and then sells it or give each person their 1000 bucks afterwards.

Man, I don't think I've ever seen this many REAL cars offered in a pricing game (reference to April Fools 1999 showcase with nine cars, but only three real ones).

I don't think that would work, unless the 4th car would be worth over $50,000, and the other 3 would be average cars worth $15,000-$20,000.

@WayoshiM The best loss ever thing is kind of the issue I have with it really. As awesome as it was that she got all 4 like she did, would have been a anti-climatic had she only won 1, 2 or 3. Granted you have had the $5,000-$10,000 (now $10,000-$25,000) dynamic with Punchboard before, but even so.
And next week is "Big Money Week". Gotta feeling we will see another 4 car pricing game. Take Two or Danger Price for 4 cars anybody???
@sshuffield70 Ummmm, okay? I don't think I follow you. I was just saying I never saw anyone who won it massively huge in their own game make it all the way to the end. Maybe it has happened (in which case I take back what I said), I just never seen it. Basically, they would get out-spun at the Big Wheel, thus ending it for them at that point.

Sharon cheated to get up on stage. Just before she gives her bid you can hear someone yelling out "SIX SIX EIGHT" from the audience. See I've always wondered what's to stop them from having someone in the audience do a quick price check on their phone and then yell it out to them, and I'm pretty sure that's what happened here. She didn't deserve that $500.
Because electronic devices are forbidden from being in the studio, and it would be extremely difficult to hide that with pages, a half dozen cameras, and show staffers all over the place.
It is totally possibly someone who knew prices was there.
They should be silenced so Sharon can focus on her bid.
I'm disappointed. Everyone's reaction seem rather generic, especially the contestant as if it was no big deal.
