they do, they have MLB Vault. But after promises of regular uploads this year they have barely touched the channel unfortunately. Look at WWE Vault, a new channel committed to promoting the history of WWE and they show off so much rare or incredible stuff. Ditto to the NFL Throwback channel. MLB needs to learn from these channels that deliver in spades on the history and give nearly daily uploads.

      Same with nfl network.

The Phillies overcame a 10-run deficit in a home game against the Pirates the previous year. In that one, Pittsburgh went up 10-0 in the top of the 1st, causing Pirates broadcaster Jim Rooker to say something like, "If we lose this game, I'm walking home to Pittsburgh."
Well, they did lose, as Philadelphia overcame that deficit. Steve Jeltz, who rarely homered, had 2 in this game.
Rooker didn't walk home that day, but after the season, he walked across Pennsylvania to raise money for a charity.

This is considered the second biggest comeback in MLB history in terms of percentage chance to comeback to win, with number one being a 1952 game between the Cubs and Reds. Both games percentages are as of the end of the 2024 season.
In that Cubs-Reds 1952 game, Reds were at home and they were up by 6 runs entering the 9th inning. The Reds retired the first two Cubs hitters in the 9th inning, but then the Cubs scored 7 runs in the 9th to take the lead, and then won it
The biggest difference being that this 1990 game was a nationally televised game on ESPN
ESPN also aired the fifth biggest comeback in MLB history in the 2001 season, a Sunday Night Baseball game in Cleveland between Seattle-Cleveland. In that game, the eventual 116-win-Mariners had a 12-run-lead over Cleveland after 6 innings and a 5-run-lead going into the bottom of the 9th inning, and then Cleveland made their comeback by tying the game in the bottom of the 9th inning and then Cleveland won in extra innings.

I can’t believe there are actually people that pay attention to one of the stupidest things ever invented in sports- the “percentage chance to win” or as in this case the comeback.
You know what the percentage chance was? 100% because they did it.

I am a Phillies fan, living across the river in Trenton NJ at that time. I was watching the game on TV on a local UHF Philadelphia channel 17 , and shut the game off by the 6th inning, and just for giggles, turned it back on the top of the ninth with the score 11-5, so I kept watching . Unbelievable is all u could remember, because the Phil’s had been the doormat of the National East since 1987 and continued in the second division until winning it in 2007 and the World Series in 2008.
I remember the May 17, 1979 Phils-Cubs 23-22 game at Wrigley Field when Dave “Kong” Kingman hit 3 out and Schmidt hit 2. Phils led 21-9 going into bottom of the 5th when the cubbies scored 10 runs in 5th and 6th and finally tied it at 22-22 in bottom of the 8th, until Schmidt hit a solo shot in the 10th to win it against the great Bruce Sutter.

I remember this game was on tv and not paying attention to it much…I was eating or studying at the time. It was one of those blowouts in the middle of the season that is not memorable. The Dodgers were up 11-1 or something like that so the game was over.
And then that 9th inning happened. Slowly the crowd noise began to get louder and the announcers were getting a bit excitable. I think I started paying attention at 11-8…at which point as a fan you start to think that this could be one of THOSE games when something wild happens. And it did…the Phillies were unconscious all of a sudden and everything could feel it in the stadium.
One of the most memorable games I have witnessed…and all because Lasorda is who he is, his head was about to explode after it slowly but steadily rose in temperature. A classic…

John Kruk, Darren Daulton(who was a seasoned veteran at this point having been first called up in 1983), Dave Hollins, Mickey Morandini, Wes Chamberlain, Tommy Greene, Terry Mullholland, Ricky Jordan and Lenny Dykstra played in this game. This was such a fun game. Couple of funny stories. #1, Kruk was mad because they were going to get back to the hotel too late for room service and #2, GM Lee Thomas left the game early and ended up getting fined in Kangaroo Court.

What some people forget is Terry Mulholland had just thrown the first no hitter in a long time for the Phils just 6 days before. It was this window of a week that made 1993 not such a surprise for me.

    • @steveswangler6373
      @steveswangler6373 หลายเดือนก่อน

One week in 1990 made the entire season of 1993 not such a surprise. Seriously?
1993 wasn’t a surprise to knowledgable fans because in 1991 we got better, competitive at least. 1992 injuries, especially to Dykstra dropped us back down.
But in 1993 we were at full strength and we picked up actual players, guys that would run through a wall to win. And we had leaders like Daulton and Hollins. “Head” who told his pitchers if they didn’t retaliate when he got hit by a pitch they would have to face him and that he would protect them when they hit batters.
The roster for the last few years does not include winners with very few exceptions and contains absolutely no leaders.
I’m not trying to call you a liar, but NOBODY in 1993 said or even thought, “you remember that one week 3 years ago? This year isn’t a surprise.”
