- In 2003 Peyton Manning lead the Indianapolis Colts into Raymond James stadium for a showdown with the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Gruden lead Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With just over 3 minutes left the Colts found themselves down by 21 points. That's when The Sheriff took over.

Leaping call was BS but so was the last Onside kick call. Fair outcome I suppose.
Agreed,
That's usually how they do it. They make a trash call and make up for it with another one against the other team.
I agree but the thing is he was in leaping position and if he runs up like that and still makes contact on his way up it’s a flag. I don’t think he made contact tho
Dominic 29 right, only on way down did I see contact. Seems like a terrible call unless it’s indeed makeup for the earlier terrible call on the kickoff scrum.
he made contact on the way down, so by the rule it's leaping, though it's a dumb rule since he didn't gain an advantage, it's not the idea of the rule since he didn't use another player to catapult himself, but he did brush against another player coming down, so .. I guess it's the right call, but I would think they could call it that way on basically every field goal attempt.
Leaping call was great, he wasn't on the line is scrimmage at the snap so it's a penalty. Gotta be on the line.
Great comeback but DAMN the bucs got robbed at the end lol
It's in the rule book, just like how the tuck rule used to be.

But both of those examples are officiating that favoured the colts so what exactly is your point?
Mikey not giving the Colts an onside kick they desperately needed and giving the Bucs an extra possession in a sudden death overtime favored the Colts? How’s that one work?
811chelseafc My bad, my brain cells hadn’t woken up
The roughing the kicker was the correct call by rule. Not sure about the onside. I think the rule back then was whoever came out of the pile with the ball but that rule has been changed since then I believe. Still should have been colts ball.

@@jmurphy6011 The refs actually got the Golden Tate touchdown right. The optics aren't good, but technically it was a contested ball, which goes to the receiver. Both players got their hands on it and the defender didn't cleanly take possession away from the receiver so it's a jump ball, receiver's ball, good TD. It surprises me the number of fans who don't know the rules.
@@hagamapama I live in Seattle, I'm a die hard Hawks fan...and even I've gotta say you're wrong. Not about the rules you referenced, sure, but rather the whole play should have been dead the moment Tate pushed Shields. It was blatant offensive PI, Tate should have drawn a flag and none of the rest of it should have mattered. The refs most certainly didn't call that play correctly, and as much as I hate to say it the Seahawks quite obviously should not have gotten that TD.
Lol. Man, this is Manning doing what Manning does. I remember watching this game live with my Dad. He went to bed, thinking the game was over. I knocked on his door and told him the Colts had taken it to Overtime. He came back out and watched the rest of the game with me. A great memory
It's cool to see others have good memories with their dads while Manning is on their team. My dad and I are Denver fans, and during his time with them we would watch pretty much every game. I remember watching Denver set a field-goal record (I think it was 63 yards) and my dad was like "you're watching history right now". Always stuck with me. My dad and I both have Manning jerseys, and we used to wear them together while we watched the Broncos play, though unfortunately mine doesn't fit me anymore. Really good memories... Hell, even Wilson is giving me good memories. When Denver went against Kansas City the first time this year, we expected a blowout. The game wasn't on so I was watching some show with my brother while my dad watched a podcast covering the game. It was bad at first; it was like 20-0 KC, but then suddenly each update my dad gave was more and more positive and he seemed excited to tell me and my brother each time they scored a touchdown. I think that'll stick with me too, and even if Wilson isn't doing too hot right now, it's still nice to have a good memory associated with this hell of a season.

You really think the Pat's became the prodigal team to lead the North East region of America? Theres literally 3 teams that could have carried that banner. The Bills, Jets and Giants but New England is the dynasty chosen from 9/11? Or do the Giants SB wins over the Patriots change that?
The Saints won years after Katrina and New Orleans wasn't destroyed. Surrounding areas were hit, but the city wasn't damaged half as badly. Plus, the Saints got in trouble in the following years or was that all part of the NFL too? Why didn't the Hornets win an NBA title? NOLA wasnt given a SB win. We took that by any means necessary.

Oh well, you guys would liked it if the table was turned. Great era.
It was indeed a penalty though. If a player lines up more than one yard off of the line, then he cannot come down on other players after he has leaped. That made it a personal foul.

Little did I know at the time Manning would be the QB for my Broncos next Super Bowl victory.
I wouldn't trade the Broncos fan arch over the last 25 years with any other team in pro sports. 4 Super Bowls, 3 victories, Elway, Plummer, -Cutler- , Tebow, Manning. The 2010 Tebow year was the most fun I've ever had watching football. Tebow had an immeasurable impact on the game and it was his success that led to Manning choosing the Broncos in 2011. The most exciting football game I have ever watched. I had asked my husband to turn it off because the “game was over”. I sat there and watched each touchdown in disbelief. Thanks for posting. It was fun to watch it again.
Me too I never turned it off....I knew something special was happening when they got that onside kick n scored 30 sumthn seconds later😳

Football's not over until it's over.
What a great memory! I use to live in Florida, and worked nights at a hospital. I remember watching this ending in the break room! Great to see and hear the names and players from 20 years ago! Plus having Madden calling this just brings back great memories of watching NFC games on CBS as a kid too! Him and Summerall were the best in the 80s!
"Boom boom boom there's balls going everywhere" . . . Madden has to be the king of announcers!
Absolutely loved him. Enjoyed his work with Summerall until the latter began signs of ageing and the effects of being concussed repeatedly as a player.
Charlie Keyes Madden and Pat Summeral were a dynamic duo when it came to announcing for NFL on Sundays.
Your mom said that.
I'd still have to go with Pat Summeral
"The ball was in between the guys legs" wow
Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison were one of the classiest QB/WR combo to ever play in the league.
Him and reggie too. Marvin and reggie basically have the same years for the career

I can already imagine them calling plays, and breaking every down
Could you imagine if you were one of the fair weather fans who walked out, but then heard later of this amazing comeback?? Hahaha
they were bucs fans, they missed thier team imploding.
When you realize Dungy built both these teams
Marvin Hunt He built Tampa Bay and then John Gruden came in and took credit. They won one year and then had a terrible streak after that. I lived in Tampa and the bars stopped making money because people didn’t like staying out after their team lost.
Marvin Hunt But Peyton is amazing. I’ve been a fan of whichever team Peyton played for. Followed him from the Colts to Denver.
@@ingenueGi Yeah, his book Quiet Strength was a real eye opener about his times in Tampa.
Exactly the only success Gruden has really had is the team he took over from Dungy.

He earned a cigar for that one. Everyone was tired.
What about Brees? 5 seasons of 5000+ yards? (And the 4952 he threw in 2014 may as well be called a 5th 5000 yard season; no other QB has even done that twice in their career! Brees is 1st in Career Passing Yards, and Career Pass Completions, and 2nd in Career Passing TDs? (And I'm not even a Saints or Chargers fan, but a lowly Washington Football Team fan lol)
@@matthewskillo8577 Yeah, I agree. Brees, Marino, Young, Y.A. Tittle and a few others all seem to go forgotten into football oblivion. Every once in a while I hear of Johnny Unitas. All these guys are legendary. I was a Redskins fan many years ago. I've just grown really tired of Washington's owner, Dan Synder. I was livid when he told Mike Shanahan to take a hike. Mike worked with Reggie Griffin 3, a now known impossible quarterback and made him great for a year. Dan is such a moron he can't even give a name to his own football team. He may be a really smart businessman but he has no business owning a professional football team.
That "idiot kicker" as peyton so affectionately called him was mighty accurate during his career but my word he always crumbled when it was all on the line

This game made me a Peyton Manning die-hard fan! I remember watching this in college.
We loved him at UT!!!!
This was more proof that Jon Gruden won the 2002 Superbowl riding on the coat-tails of Tony Dungy's Bucs, which he coached from 1996-2001. Tony Dungy was an amazing coach and very underrated.
Even though this is a known fact. I don't think this specific game is an example of more proof. Especially considering all of the eventual Hall of Famers on the colts roster. If there was an IQ test for the NFL and football as a whole, Peyton Manning can be argued as having an Albert Einstein/Stephen Hawking level intelligence. Furthermore, there was at least 1 incorrect call from the officiating crew on the 2nd to last play of the game that setup the game winning field goal. The unsportsmanlike conduct call against Simeon Rice was clearly a bad call. Tony Dungy is one of the great minds of football and will be a hall of fame coach, but let's not be too partisan to not give Jon Gruden his deserved credit for at least being a decent NFL coach.
Alan Grey at least with Gruden, the Bucs were competitive. After he left they become a complete joke…
Lets not forget...the team that Gruden beat in the Super Bowl was also the team that he built in Oakland. People only talk about the Dungy aspect.
Both teams that Gruden had a part of, made it to the Super Bowl that year.
@@bryank971 #Facts! We all endear ourselves to a certain franchise even though year after year there is never a completely unchanged roster. Anyone that watches football knows that to get to the superbowl and win can never be done by accident. When every player, coach, and staff member on all 32 NFL teams have a vested interest in their on field performance. The impact that their stats and ability to win, has on their legacy is directly tied to the money they make from the game. No one gets into the NFL solely by luck. And no one will ever win the superbowl by luck and luck alone. There are many players and coaches that would trade some of their pedigree, for some of that "luck". Guaranteed world champions, here we come
Tony Dungy was not underrated whatsoever dude.
Keenan McCardell, the leading receiver for the Bucs, is now the WR coach for the Jaguars, converting undrafted WRs into solid starters, like Allen Hurns and Keelan Cole.
McCardell had a great NFl career too. Very underrated WR, him and Jimmy Smith were lethal in Jacksonville.

1998-2011 was a special era for indy sports. pacers made the finals, and should have made another one in 2005 if it wasnt for the malice in the palace. Colts really should have been in more super bowls though. They underachieved big time.
@@h8rone I recently asked my buddy is Tony Dungy is somewhat to blame for this and should have been fired. His lack of playoff success was pretty outstanding, but i guess there were always other teams in the way like the Chargers, Patriots, and whoever else.
I was 11 years old when this game aired. I remember staying up to watch all by myself in the living room and going to bed before it ended because we were losing so bad. I was so mad when I woke up the next morning and saw that we had won and I didn't get to see. What an insane comeback.
As a Bucs fan this was gut wrenching. This was officially the start of our downward spiral, 15 years and counting. We haven't recovered since. 😳
This is your year.
+Chris L Very competitive. The toughest division in the NFC. With the exception of the Bucs, someone from that division has hosted the SB at least once in the last 8 years. Sure my prediction is opinionated, but it's not far fetched. They have a legitimate shot of winning that division. Them actually doing it remains to be seen.
We compete with all 3 of them every year. We have just as much talent, if not more, as all 3 rivals yet we haven't put it together.

I'm older and remember the REAL Colts. Unitas, Berry and Moore! Indianapolis has the Super Bowl III trophy, which of course was the BALTIMORE Colts at that time. Probably thinks the Colt Championship of '58,'59 and '68 are theirs too! The REAL story. BALTIMORE has SIX Championships. FOUR with the Colts and two with the Raven's. Indianapolis had Peyton Manning. We had John Unitas! Indianapolis has NO NFL legacy. ONE championship in 38 years? Baltimore WILL win at least one more Championship before Indianapolis does. Raven's have been in the league since '96 and have won 2 Super Bowls. Indianapolis has been in the league since '84, and have one. Baltimore has been in 4 Super Bowls, winning 3 and have won 3 NFL Championships.
