Blackmagic Cloud has been available for a while now but does it have any use for solo creators? Short answer, yes! It's a great addition to Davinci Resolve for those that often switch between multiple devices 🙂

For solo editing I don't see any benefit from the cloud when I still have to use an external drive for the media. So I could just store the project library on this device as well and don't need internet connection for sync.

    • @dovim157
      @dovim157 ปีที่แล้ว +11

So if you speak to Davinci resolve, technical support, they will tell you it is critical that you store the database files locally on an internal hard drive because if it is on a external hard drive and it disconnects while editing a project, and you can corrupt the entire library and lose everything

Or even better: have media and database in a local drive with a real-time bidirectional sync to the external SSD, so it is always updated when you unplug it. And do the same setup on the other computers.

Or, if you're using an SSD anyway, you may as well just export the project file as well (which is just good practice after each editing session too). Takes 5 seconds, and saves $5 a month that could go towards the studio version or the next camera upgrade. And you don't need the internet! If you want the peace of mind with the project files being in the cloud, just click and drag them into the free Dropbox storage as it's ample for that. Personally, that's my choice. But whatever workflow gets your work done is the best one for you!

@@vivekjoshi115 while opening resolve, you will project manager you can right click on the project you want to export and click export for exporting only project and if want the file s in the project click export project archive, if you do that you will have a folder with that project name on it. @@vivekjoshi115 CP's bench got it. You can also right-click in the project manager and select import to add the exported project into the new device's database. Just to clarify: Yes, you wouldn't have a live save to the cloud, but you'll still have the live save to your hard drive.

I'm planning on getting this feature to work on my TH-cam videos with the partners I have on my two channels. I will be the host, so I assume when it comes to rendering, all the media files need to be on my computer. What I am unsure of, is can the other users add media files to the project from their machine? Will I be able to edit and tweak those clips before/without downloading those media files to my machine? Will my partners need to download the media files I have on my computer to edit the video? Or will they be able to see it all thru the cloud as if the files were on their machine? Basically, does _everyone_ need to have the media files, or just the host/person who will be rendering the video?
Thanks for all that you do, your tutorials have been very educational, and your presets are pretty awesome too! Thank you in advance for your response. Cheers!

Thanks for the video. Maybe I missed the point, but if you have media in an external SSD, why don't you have the library stored to same SSD - no added value of BM cloud in that case? Editing is a hobby for me and I do that at downstairs (a beefy PC) and upstairs (M1 MBA). It would be nice to access projects and media from both machines. I have considered purchasing the cloud pod without BM cloud. I could upload proxies from downstairs PC and use them upstairs when I use MBA to edit.

How does this work with power bins? Do these sync through the cloud as well? I understand you'd have to have the media files somewhere accessible if it were SFX etc. but what if it were effects or titles saved to a bin, do they get shared between computers via the library as well?

I started using a cloud project recently. The editor who put the project online, renamed folders, thius my local copy of the same files would not easily update links or not at all. So it is not usable with offline media, and I am not sure if the mdeia pool is local host if remote editing can be done without say a NAS network server.

If they (BlackMagic) could implement some form of media cloud sync into this, I may be more interested to try it out. What I mean is that when I connect a camera SSD or flash card to a laptop with Resolve, I can in the app say "import to synced folder" and resolve will copy the files to local drive and begin syncing files with all computers I have this set up with. When it's done, it would have the work folder on local drives on both my laptop and my other computers. Still no media storage on the cloud, to keep things cheap. But still get the flexibility of multi computer editing and also the piece of mind of multiple site redundancies. Like the examples in the video here. If the laptop gets run over by a stray russian tank or something I can just give them a hand gesture and get hold of another laptop to continue editing vacation footage as the footage was safely replicated on another location.
Maybe there are good free alternatives for these folder mirroring tasks. But I haven't really found one that works reliably and with sufficient automation, while not also trying to force me into costly cloud storage schemes.

When you click on cloud it says switching to cloud database and a loading bar. then you don't have the option to paste. flip back over to copy again, flip back again and it shows loading bar again. It's not possible to past from local to cloud. You have to first export to a folder on your computer on local then switch to cloud and import.

No thanks. I edit to external hard drives. Uploading 27gb to a cloud ? That's a typical image sequence for me.
If your files are not uploaded, as you point out, then there is no point as a single user uploading just the project file to a cloud.
Why pay for cloud when you still have to have a hard drive to take your files?
As a Solo editor, pointless exercise.
If a hard drive fails you are still stuffed as your media files are not in the cloud just the project file.

really not getting it are you its fine for those who use it heavily nd no issue with charging for that but for a light way to save a project file it would cost them virtually nothing to do so its not always about money sometimes it is about creating good will. Next time think about that your millions bull is just that bull.
      Edit,
oh one more thing I do not have the ability to save to my local computer as it was stolen and must use a library computer until I can afford to replace it so I also can not spare the 5$ even though it is not much. There are situations you should consider before being a jerk.@@MrAlexTech
