That bus stop at a roundabout (10:12) really isn't a driving fail for me - it's a road design fail. It is reasonable for road users to expect consistency in road and junction design, and these types of improvised road layouts will inevitably cause confusion. There isn't even a sign to say there's a bus stop, just paint on the road. So a light dusting of snow and all information is gone. Very poor in my view.
There is a sign, it's just damn small, it's on the lamp column next to the traffic lights. You do see the signs quite often outside of town, but normally they are in lay-bys and don't have words on the road. These are normally locations that might get a couple of buses drive past a day, connect quite distant towns together and often have a single stop in each village along the way. I am guessing that this location was chosen when a new by-pass for the local village was built so they moved it to outside the village so that the bus could take the by-pass. But it's not good and probably not compliant with the regulations.
@@gordon861 Yeah, i can see that sign (just). But that's not for road users, it's for the bus passengers. There isn't even a bus shelter, which would be nice for people waiting. I'd also suggest that passengers waiting for the bus will cause confusion for drivers who might think they are waiting to cross the road. And since they have priority in the new regs you're going to have a lot of confusion here.
Bus Stop road planning is just madness here. I don't agree with Ashley on this interpretation The left lane IS a lane the broken lines on the lead up and to the entry of the bus stop marked area tells me this and there is no sign saying busses only. As a rule i don't drive around marked bus spaces like this unless there is a bus in it. The dash cam driver is in the wrong lane for a left turn. What on earth was the road planner thinking.
@@steamhammer2k I would tend to agree. Bus Stops can exist inside usable lanes, so if the intent of the road planner is that cars should not it, they need to make that clearer both with signage and by having road markings on both lanes.

Not often I disagree with you, but the police car at 0:38 is clearly on the cammer's side of the road, AND they're overtaking in a turn, with a car dangerously approaching in the other lane. It's a clear driving fail for me!

Not just for crossing the line, but for being so close to the other car (pressuring them into possibly making a mistake) and for going too fast and catching up to them at the corner in the first place. Of course in his videos, he's actually on an emergency response... That police car appeared not to be.
That clip of everyone using the hard shoulder to get to the roundabout sooner reminds me on a time my car overheated in traffic on the M4 around 3/4 mile to Heston Services. Many drivers would use the hard shoulder to go through the services and out the other side to save a few minutes. Unfortunately for them on this particular morning I had some rather hot steam coming out of the expansion tank. I was berated by one driver for “blocking” the hard shoulder while they were trying to use it to move ahead of the traffic 🤦♂️ The mentality of some drivers is quite mind boggling at times
The bus stop at the roundabout is in Chippenham, Wiltshire and regularly used by examiners on driving tests. As the hashed area is broken, and the bus stop is close to the white line for the traffic lights, they expect learners to cross into the area. Unless of course, there is a bus stopped there and the lights are green. You can then use the right lane to turn left at the roundabout, but to be fair, in all the times I’ve used this roundabout, and taken my learners onto it, we’ve never seen a bus there. Bizarre place to have a bus stop 🤷🏻♂️. Just confuses people. This whole roundabout is a nightmare though and has had several accidents on it over the years.
I too am confused by this and can't find a definitive answer in the Highway Code. The most relevant section I can find is Rule 243 DO NOT stop or park: at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank except when forced to do so by stationary traffic. Obviously a car driver waiting at that bus stop will not have been stopped by stationary but by moving traffic and/or a red light. So no valid exception. To be clear, I am not saying one could be fined for using the bus stop, as it is not correctly marked as a bus stop clearway with yellow markings and no-stopping sign. But that's quite a separate matter from whether driving test examiners should be requiring candidates to disregard the advice of the Highway Code. _Pace_ Ashley it doesn't seem to be a straightforward situation at all. Is the writing "BUS STOP" on the road there for the benefit/instruction of car drivers, bus drivers or people hoping to catch the bus? Because if for car drivers then there is a slight logical flaw in the writing only carrying any weight when it already has a bus on top of it.
8:35 When wearing certain types of hood you can turn head left/right but the hood stays in same place restricting your view. Parents should be aware of this.
5:43 I personally am getting fed up of bus drivers with MGIF syndrome. I don't understand why bus drivers seem to constantly go for the risky/impatient overtake when nine times out of ten they end up back behind me shortly afterwards anyway. On my cycle commute on Friday I had a bus overtake me and then immediately pull over into his next stop, so it gained him zero ground and forced me to have to put myself in danger as I then have to pull out and go round him. It ends up being this weird and stressful game of leapfrog and all for no reason. They pull the "have to stick to the schedule mate" excuse, but does ten whole seconds of being behind another vehicle really make that big of a difference to the drivers schedule? I think its just a road dominance mentality where they think that because they are driving something big that makes them the most important vehicle on the road.
That's a factor, but not the only one. Bus drivers have a timetable to keep to, and the pressure from management to avoid late running runs deep. Not an excuse for poor driving by any means, but something to bear in mind.

In Hong Kong police drivers often overtook me over solid white lines when I was cycling! No exemptions there for overtaking certain road users travelling under 10 mph.
I was waiting for a plot twist to this one and find the marked police van was actually an old one that had been sold with the livery still present and the plain van was actually an unmarked police vehicle Turns out to just be some _interesting_ driving from the police
At around 9:14, that's a major peeve of mine. Being in the process of manouvering into a parking space and impatient drivers wanting to overtake whilst I'm reversing. I then have to delay my manouvre as they come past due to the inherent "front end swing" when reversing.

But as in that clip, there are many instances where it would make sense to just let the person reversing complete their manoeuvre unhindered and be out of everyone's way rather than make them wait, whereby they are now an obstacle that multiple vehicles have to squeeze past.

They either have to wait for you to finish the manoeuvre, or you have to loop round several streets back to where you started to not hold them up. After a couple of times of doing that, too right some drivers will make the buggers wait 😅

Being a PDI on a trainee licence in the area of the clip at 10:10 the local driving examiners want road users to use the bus stop as if it were a lane.

1:19 - Jumping a red light when a filter arrow starts... I don't think the driver of the car in the left lane was necessarily reacting the right-turn filter arrow, like Ashley says. I think they probably just saw cars on the right entering the junction, which triggered what my instructor calls the "crazy follow my leader instinct"!
I'd agree, crazy and probably distracted. The driver was slowing down because the lights were changing from amber to red so they shouldn't be expecting to get a green so soon.

That junction is right down the road from my house and yeah it's super common. There's another similar one not 10 minutes from this junction with the same issue. People see cars in totally different lanes going totally different directions move and just go instead of using their items thinking and observations.

Re the walking fail at 8:38 - it's not just about rushing or not looking, it's also about the reduced vision and hearing from wearing a waterproof with the hood up, especially when (as in this guy's case) the hood is a loose one that doesn't tighten around your head and so doesn't turn with your head, meaning you have to turn your entire body to the side to look for oncoming cars (as you see him later do properly when he's looking for traffic on his left). It takes a lot more effort just to turn and look for oncoming traffic in that situation, plus you've lost most of your peripheral vision so you're unlikely to just fortuitously notice something that you missed when you looked or something that comes from an unexpected direction. I don't like wearing waterproofs with the hood up unless there's truly torrential rain because of this; I would rather just accept getting wet and having to dry my hair.
@10:15 that road layout is all kinds of wrong IMO. You've got a bus stop, basically through a set of traffic lights, obstructing a pedestrian crossing area *also* the wrong side of the traffic lights. Move the whole lot a little further back, make it a proper pelican crossing, and either site the bus stop before the road splits with enough room to allow passing/overtaking the bus, or (more annoyingly, but still effective) as the road splits forcing following traffic to wait.
At 1:53, with the white van on the left merging over to the right. A good example of why it's important to move your head around your A pillar as well as being aware of other vehicles blind spots.
I am not sure it was left hand drive, though. I think you can see the instrument panel in the window. It is not a UK number plate but Irish rear plates are white.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do no not ride a bike without lights (and preferably without wearing reflective clothing) in the dark in the way the cyclist in the clip does. First time I've seen my home town (Chippenham - at 10:40 (roundabout) on the channel. We were taught (possibly incorrectly) to USE the left lane unless a bus is there and most people do, although the cammer should have seen the lack of indicator and dropped in behind
That clip with the "follow the leader" hard shoulder use is at Chain Bar (the M62/M606 interchange). Any accident on that stretch of the M62 and the ambulances will need that exit to access the A&E at Dewsbury Hospital.
4:30 I think it was typical Mitsubishi Evo driver behavior. Here in the US, all Mitsubishi Evos and Subaru WRXs (another similar car) are always driven by young kids doing tricks and fooling about in their cars
At around 2:18, that's a good illustration of the importance of being on high alert if ANY road user is lingering or "loitering" near a pedestrian crossing. Sometimes it turns out to be a "false alarm" but you will only know after the fact.
An interesting point to note is that the beacons are covered over. Would this indicate that they don’t work or the crossing is closed? The driver has taken this for granted and not stopped/slowed for the pedestrian.
@@ds_e5202 I'd still be cautious in case pedestrians don't see it the same way, rightly or wrongly. Whilst also being cautious about not getting rear ended by stopping unexpectedly. A bit of a balancing act I suspect.
Seems like the scooter riders didnt stop and check before crossing. So while we should be wary of pedestrians, pedestrians really nees to help themselves a bit too. At least it looks like a minor incident, maybe some bruises and grazes and easily fixed damage.

a thought on the lane that is not a lane but a bus stop, the lines protecting the bus stop are dashed (10.17), according to HC rule 130 If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so. Also to be pedantic the bus stop marking should be yellow. to be safe the road markings need improving.
I was thinking that too, the markings imply that it is a location where a bus may be stopped rather than is a bus stop only, especially the size of the bus stop sign. I have never seen the words bus stop appearing in white either, but it's not something I deal with and looking it up in the new regs is a pain.
Yup, would be very interesting to see what insurance said if there was a collision with a car from the “right” lane going first exit hitting a car going straight from the bus stop lane.
There is a particular location in the center of Dublin city that is notorious for drug addicts just stepping out in front of traffic while crossing the road and expecting cars to just deal with it. As a pedestrian, I've witnessed this twice whereby cars had to swerve to avoid a collision. My driving instructor also mentioned it when I was driving along that road. It is a major thoroughfare too so it is always busy.
Whilst many of the driving fails seem to result from a lack of concentration and consideration for others, at least some instances can be put down to the poor design of road junctions and especially parking on main roads. Better signage would help too, rather than just white paint on road surfaces. Road markings are often obscured by vehicles, difficult to see in wet conditions and certainly in snow.
I agree. Though not about signage - there are already too many signs. Just consistent road design is all that is needed. Do that and you don't need lots of signs.
I'd agree if I thought most people even read signs. Sadly many folk are too focused on the bumper of the car in front to look at literally anything else.
Having just driven around the new city of Chelmsford. Where Essex has put lane markers on roundabouts, just as you get to a roundabout, with no signage, I just avoided an accident as the driver in front of me and myself released we needed to be in a different lane, the same one, fortunately following Ashley's advice on staggering my car there was no issue. If councils are going to mark roundabouts we as drivers need enough notification.
That clip at 4:40, I was driving up to Wales last year via the M5, and it was super congested near Taunton. I was just joining the motorway in the outermost lane, and about 5 minutes later, whilst moving at 5mph, a semi sped past me probably at around 40-50mph in the hard shoulder. When you consider how wide they are, that could have done much harm at someone not paying attention on the road ahead
The police were 100% committed to that overtake, then your viewer prevented them. Only think this because they then continued to overtake afterwards, watch the rear camera footage, they pushed through a gap with the oncoming car behind your viewer.
2:23 the car was way too close to have stopped, it even looks like it had crossed the threshold before the scooter moved off, the scooter hitting the back quarter panel shows the timing. Wonder if the rider let off the brake as it looks like a powered scooter and rode onto the crossing by accident
Or that the crossing orange lights were covered and it wasn't in operation, there are barriers to the left against a fence, so someone has either not closed it or forgotten to remove the covers.
8:37 I would say the car was too fast round the corner here, the pedestrian already had a foot in the road when they come into sight and looks a little unsteady so walking while looking to the side might not be possible, I think they looked, reorientation forwards and stepped out
As a PP has pointed out it isn't a recognised crossing point, is on a blind bend and the pedestrian had a snorkel parka type hood. Was the car going a wee bit fast? Maybe but the pedestrian brought much more to the situation than the car driver, who sorted out what the careless pedestrian didn't.
The clip at 5:44 is in Chiwick west London. Its a dodgey bit of road at the best of times and I would rarly overtake even when on a motorbike, let alone in a bus!
I know where the bus stop junction is at 10:11 and interestingly my brother failed his driving test for doing what the camera car did, he was told that the left bus stop lane should have been used.
There are diagonal white stripes leading up to that section. The Van driver would have entered that lane by driving over them. Rule 130 says: "...If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so." It wasn't necessary for van driver to enter the lane at that place, it's a fail. Also, terrible road planning.
2:15 I really hate those kinds of crossings, as they can be really unpredictable. I prefer to err on the side of caution, so I have often stopped "for no reason" because I didn't know what people next to it were going to do. Which is a pretty good reason, in my opinion, even if those honking their horns behind me don't agree. As for checking my tires, I finished changing from summer to winter tyres 10 minutes before watching this video. This includes checking for damage and thread depth ✅️ 😉
You think that's bad.... We used to have one in my town (not in the UK) with some picnic tables on the island area next to the crossing... It was bloody awful to try and drive through, and just as bad to cross as a pedestrian. No one ever knew if the pedestrians were crossing or just walking to a table. I have no idea what the F they were thinking. Thankfully that stuff's all long gone. The crossing it was at is gone. The tables are gone... And they even removed the bench seating from near the one crossing that was kept in the main street.

At around 0:18 it does surprise me how regular family cars can roll over so easily. YT is full of footage of this kind of thing. Even greater risk of rollover with the growing trend in SUV's. I believe the US NHTSA organization now has a rollover risk rating for vehicles they test. Not sure if EURO NCAP does but I'll check.
@@rogerkearns8094 Pretty sure the motorist in front was applying brakes to meet the upcoming 30 limit, and the motorist of the white car was not paying enough attention to brake safely. Their following distance was quite short as well, at least from the rough time between front brake lights coming on, and the ensuing flip.

@@rogerkearns8094 I was the driver of the white car in this clip. The ka in front thought the car at the junction was pulling out and slammed on their brakes. I do take responsibility for not being far enough back, but the actions of the car in front were very unexpected (especially as they pretty much came to a stop)
The police 'overtake' at 00:42 is a driving fail. You can't look to overtake on a left hand bend at that point, they are taught to take the nearside to look past the left side of the car then move out to the centre line or over it after the bend is complete
Ten yearly retests for all lincence holders will clear the roads of thousands of poor drivers. I might even slow or even stop insurance premiums going up so much each year.
In regards to the idiot that lunged out at the motorbike, you have to wonder what goes through people like that's heads. Well, until you realise probably not much besides tumbleweeds and wind.
8.34. This is an unusual pedestrian cross point. There are barriers to stop people stepping out into the middle of the junction and at the point where the guy does step out there isn’t a drop Kerb. [so it isn’t fit for purpose for a wheel chair etc] Also when the guy steps out he is unsighted for any traffic approaching from around the bend. Makes you wonder if it isn’t supposed to be a crossing point at all 🤔
Re the Merc signalling right then signalling and turning right, there's someone in my area that's teaching drivers to signal left as they approach a roundabout, and then put the right indicator on once they're on the it, regardless of which exit they're taking. It's like they're literally just signalling which way they're turning the steering wheel... No, I can't work it out, but some drivers do this consistently and it's infuriatingly misleading.

Hi Ashley, I have a question about the clip at 10:10 regarding the bus stop. There are many bus stops that we drive straight through every day, provided there isn't a bus in it. The van drives through the stop, which I don't think it's wrong, since it doesn't say "BUS ONLY". Am I wrong? I know there are lives right before indicating an area that you can't enter but I can't tell if the van did cross those lines or not.
The van must've crossed those markings. The markings also mean cross them if it's safe and necessary, but it wasn't necessary. The markings are terrible and are unnecessary confusion. I agree that we drive through bus stop, but if the vehicles are queueing in lane 2 nobody should go in there.
@@ashley_neal When approaching a typical bus stop in lane 1 surely you don't expect all vehicles in that lane o move into lane 2 and back again when it's past the bus stop. Bus Stops should be treated like any other inside lane.
If the police car was having a look rather than committing they would have tucked back in, which they didn't. If things were done properly, the cammer would not have been interfered with. That was poor for me.
10:05 a few years ago I did witness one fall off, and it’s a miracle that the windscreen of the car didn’t break (I was in the front passenger seat of the car it hit, it was starting to disintegrate before it hit though)
I had a few of them fall on me once when driving my mum's old Micra. Thankfully they didn't do any damage, but some also fell in front of the car so they stopped me immediately. The idiots were driving too fast round the inside of a 30mph 90° bend with unsecured bales on a flatbed, and I was unlucky enough to be passing them on the outside.
8:10😮 Idiots doing stunts like this assume if anything comes they will just force the traffic stream to make a gap for them. These selfish idiots are the kind that cause accidents for other people while getting away unscathed themselves.
The police car was absolutely a driving fail. They had progressed onto the wrong side of the road with oncoming traffic in the opposite direction, causing the cammer to have to take evasive action. Whether they were doing so to start the overtake or just "take a peek" is irrelevant. Ashley, you shouldn't be so fearful of speaking up against this. Otherwise, you can't call yourself impartial if you pick and choose who to criticise.
The motorway exit clip at 4:39 is fairly standard for that junction. Junction 25 off the westbound M62 ‘SMART’ motorway, without exception every time I use that exit this happens. I personally think the reason people think they can use it is because they’ve probably just come down the hard shoulder on the smart road and just carry on on the off ramp regardless of the road markings. I’m not excusing their actions just conveying my experience of that junction and my hatred for smart motorways.
This happens on the M6 in Birmingham too. The overhead road signs say use the hard shoulder due to congestion and then many people think that they can continue using it on the slip road because there isn't a sign or notification saying stop using it. Then as in this clip when it suddenly changes to hashed marking their brain kicks into gear and they realise they shouldn't be in that lane! 😂
@gavjlewis I thought the overhead sogns said “Use Hard Shoulder” and then 1 or 2 signs before the exit it says “Hard Shoulder for J… Only” I haven’t used the M6 in a while but that has always been my experience. The M42 for the A45 was always a fun one, drivers would use the hard shoulder or the short lane 1 post hard shoulder ending and the move straight into lane 2 of the slip road despite there being a second slip road off the motorway for the exit. The number of near misses witnessed there is staggering
10:10 Woo Chippenham! I’m not entirely sure that it doesn’t act as a lane as well. It’s not a bus lane so you aren’t prohibited from entering it right? And I don’t know of any other bus stops with a stop line. As a local I have used it as a lane, it naturally works for taking the first exit into the left lane and then immediately off first exit at the next roundabout to Morrisons. I wouldn’t use it for any other exit though.
Re at around 0:29 if we could see the reg number of the rolled over car, we could check it on Car Vertical....for a car on it's side! Maybe we can check on Car Horizontal. Oh the irony! Regardless, I do hope no one was injured.

At around 0:43 re the police car that might "just have been having a look" by straddling the centre line. "Having a look" to get an earlier view of the car they are about to collide with. I remember Ashley's video on positioning for optimal view on bends and recommending what he termed "Pinch an inch" for left hand bends, rather than all out "offsiding" or similar.

I'm not saying they didn't make a mistake, they did, but there could be a number of innocent reasons they were having a look, that relates to their duties. They could've been following someone, and wanted to look to see where they were now / if they were still there. They could be trying to catch up to someone to pull them over for something reasonably urgent, and needed to check if they could go for an overtake any time soon. They could've been trying to look at the mirrors and/or something on the side of the car ahead. Again, not saying it wasn't a bad time to look, but it wasn't at all any inconvenience for anyone else. The cammer barely had to react. It was such a non-event I'm surprised the cammer even sent it in AND Ashley showed it. The Police van was definitely an issue, but again I don't think it was intentional, they were probably just hyper-focused on one thing (maybe their radio, a car they're following, anything), and didn't check their mirrors properly. A bad thing they should definitely work on to improve, but hyper-focus happens all the time to people.
@@Perseus7567 There's absolutely no justification for making any even potentially dangerous manoeuvre. The Police van was a different story entirely and was Careless Driving.
That clip at 2:15 demonstrates why I firmly believe that non-motorists need to be held accountable for their own stupidity. If you pile into the *side* of a car at a crossing, that's on you for being stupid whether the car driver was legally obliged to read your mind and yield or not. Note that I am not excusing stupidity on the part of motorists, either. They clearly need to be accountable for their own stupid stuff. (Edit to add that in my part of the world, motorists are required to magically know that a pedestrian that is not even visible because they're crouched behind parked cars specifically hiding is going to suddenly cross the road as long as they do it at a crosswalk.)
8:24 These and other situations really make me dislike hoods on the roads, especially those wide ones. Yeah it kinda keeps your hair dry, but it can greatly impair peripheral vision, and your hearing too, with the drops falling on it. Waterproof cap, hat or beanie are a worthwhile purchase if you want to keep dry/warm, without impairing your senses too much. E: On the bike I'd steer clear from any hood as you really can't compensate peripheral vision and hearing 100%. If wearing a helmet, get a a waterproof "scully" (hat desigened to go under a helmet), cycling cap, neck warmer (buff), balaclava and/or a helmet cover to eliminate the hood.
There's a railway training video which basically demonstrated that point, somewhere. Mind you, the "furry" hooded coats are just the worst, why do they even exist...
@@fetchstixRHD Oh yeah and not fit for purpose at all, in the rain that is, the fur will drip water in your face well after the rain stopped. It probably shelters you better in snowy conditions though. Just be aware that you're impaired in traffic when you have to wear such at thing, but so many pedestrians aren't in the best conditions.
The roundabout at 6:14 is absolutely awful. The markings are horribly confusing and have now entirely rubbed off, which is actually better because people now use it like a normal roundabout rather than trying to use the terrible road markings. That being said if you need to correct a mistake do so safely and not like that Mercedes!
0:38 Seen many police acting stupidly on the roads near me. Twice have done dangerous overtakes, once causing me to swerve left. And the other day there was a broken down car on a single carriageway. It was to the side so didn't even have to cross the line to overtake. But on the way back, a police car was there and he took it upon himself to park at an awkward angle causing everyone behind to have to wait until the other side was clear. I think any police officer that drives should have to take multiple additional tests as many of them are not suitable Edit: 6:55 Again 😂

It’s really not an issue. I believe the reasoning is that just to the left there is a pedestrian access to Morrisons, and if you go straight (slightly right) you head out on to the dual carriageway out to the villages. So it’s a compromise between supermarket access and efficient bus routes.
I am a strong advocate of having traffic signals having all the lights with the arrows in the direction they are trying to control unfortunately, it seems that UK highways authorities are stuck with solid red and amber lights and have only a green arrow where required. In Europe all the lights controlling the direction will have arrows i.e. the red and the amber as well as the green. this means that the lighting control is much clearer and less ambiguous. I often have to have a double take when I arrive at a set of lights that control a direction to make sure that I observe only the one that controls my route and no other.
6:05 The problem may be the drivers picking the incorrect lane and using their indicators incorrectly, but the real problem is the road design. It's already not ideal if one of the lanes is allowed to go both ways, but this is just asking for trouble
At 4:43, the roadsign shows a roundabout with no less than 7 exits! Can't recall ever seeing that before. Even if I didn't know the area, I'd immediately be on high alert, as 7 exits would tell me there's going to be a high potential for lots to go wrong in terms of lane selections

The roundabout looks like Cleckheaton junction off the M62 west. It has traffic like this often as the 606 can't handle the volume of traffic onto it at rush hour. I've personally been stuck there for 3 hours in the past. I don't think it's clever to use the hard shoulder, but I know many locals do use it to take the first exit instead of waiting 40 minutes for the left lane (mapped to the 5th!! exit) to clear to the roundabout. I think the entire exit needs redesigning, and I think there has been work recently (which in the short term has made it worse, but will hopefully help long term)
I would like to slightly challenge the bus stop clip on the roundabout towards the end of the video. There was a very short section of broken line after the hatch marking and as it was a bus 'stop' rather than a bus lane I would say it should be used as a left turn lane when clear although this is confused slightly by the solid white line that outlines the perimeter of the bus stop. In general it looks like this approach should be redesigned and signposted better for everyone's safety. I would love you to do a video looking at some new road systems similar to this cropping up around the UK that just seem to be ill-conceived. I know of quite a few in and around the north east where I live.
Slip road on M62 taking the hard shoulder as always been like that for decades and the reason why. As you near the traffic lights the third lane appears for going to Clecky
At 4:26, that high speed "McReverse" was crazy. On a side note, that looked like a Japanese import to me, for the following reasons: 1. Looked like a rare model Japanese vehicle that's not normally available in the UK 2. The more squarish rear number plate. The above combined with the manner of driving says "Chav-mobile" to me.
You're on the money there, it looked like a rare Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 estate, normally they are 4-door saloons. Also looked like a high-performance car driven by a low-performance driver...
I'm genuinely unsure about the bus stop one. If I approached that junction I would assume it is ok to be there because a bus isn't there. Never come across a bus stop in that scenario before.
Being a PDI on a trainee licence in the area of the clip at 10:10 the local driving examiners want road users to use the bus stop as if it were a lane.
Thinking about it bus stops marked on running lanes aren't that unusual where there isn't the width for a dedicated bay and we have no problem driving through them. Even the hatching protecting this bus stop only has a broken line around it so it's not an offense to cross it. All of which suggests that, letter of the law, there's nothing wrong with using that lane and it's the viewer using the right hand lane to turn left that's erred. But it's a god awful piece of road design either way.

Should be the opposite way around. You also said at 10:12 that the left and is not a lane it's a Bus Stop. It IS a lane with a bus stop in it. It's like thousands of other lanes in UK.

The clip with the small HGV and the Merc, the lorry is in the wrong lane. I know this roundabout well and the Merc looks like it's come off the A944 and is heading towards Countesswells/Cults. Probably should have cancelled their right signal but this is the only lane they could have been in to turn into the road they were intending on. The lorry looks as though it has come from Fairley Road and should be in the same lane as the Merc if it's looking to turn right on to the A944. Also note the lorry isn't signalling so my guess is they weren't familiar with the area. Those lights are also only on at peak times so this may have confused them further.
At 6:38, a by-product of the fact that the UK allows parking against the traffic flow during daylight hours (and the rule is widely ignored at night anyway).
I might have been tempted to stop in front of the "wrong way" car rather than accommodating him. Here in Australia parking against the traffic direction is not allowed.
The vid at 5mins. When I see shit like that happen I put myself half on so cars can’t get by. In my car it’s a 50/50 as some people will squeeze past. But when I drive my wagon for work it’s a solid “no, you ain’t passing” and can be seen from a fair distance. Just like with how people will follow someone jumping ahead, sometimes I’ll look back and notice other people copying me once I do it. Never be afraid to stop people being bad drivers. Cos most people will support you.
That bus stop at a roundabout (10:12) really isn't a driving fail for me - it's a road design fail. It is reasonable for road users to expect consistency in road and junction design, and these types of improvised road layouts will inevitably cause confusion. There isn't even a sign to say there's a bus stop, just paint on the road. So a light dusting of snow and all information is gone. Very poor in my view.
There is a sign, it's just damn small, it's on the lamp column next to the traffic lights. You do see the signs quite often outside of town, but normally they are in lay-bys and don't have words on the road. These are normally locations that might get a couple of buses drive past a day, connect quite distant towns together and often have a single stop in each village along the way. I am guessing that this location was chosen when a new by-pass for the local village was built so they moved it to outside the village so that the bus could take the by-pass. But it's not good and probably not compliant with the regulations.

I'd also suggest that passengers waiting for the bus will cause confusion for drivers who might think they are waiting to cross the road. And since they have priority in the new regs you're going to have a lot of confusion here.

Bus Stop road planning is just madness here. I don't agree with Ashley on this interpretation The left lane IS a lane the broken lines on the lead up and to the entry of the bus stop marked area tells me this and there is no sign saying busses only. As a rule i don't drive around marked bus spaces like this unless there is a bus in it. The dash cam driver is in the wrong lane for a left turn. What on earth was the road planner thinking.
@@steamhammer2k I would tend to agree. Bus Stops can exist inside usable lanes, so if the intent of the road planner is that cars should not it, they need to make that clearer both with signage and by having road markings on both lanes.

Yep. Chris Martin would have told himself off if he even went half as far out over the line... Not just for crossing the line, but for being so close to the other car (pressuring them into possibly making a mistake) and for going too fast and catching up to them at the corner in the first place.

That clip of everyone using the hard shoulder to get to the roundabout sooner reminds me on a time my car overheated in traffic on the M4 around 3/4 mile to Heston Services.
Many drivers would use the hard shoulder to go through the services and out the other side to save a few minutes. Unfortunately for them on this particular morning I had some rather hot steam coming out of the expansion tank. I was berated by one driver for “blocking” the hard shoulder while they were trying to use it to move ahead of the traffic 🤦♂️

The bus stop at 10:19 can be used by any vehicle. Cammer was in wrong lane to turn left. Van was in correct lane for straight.

The bus stop at the roundabout is in Chippenham, Wiltshire and regularly used by examiners on driving tests. As the hashed area is broken, and the bus stop is close to the white line for the traffic lights, they expect learners to cross into the area. Unless of course, there is a bus stopped there and the lights are green. You can then use the right lane to turn left at the roundabout, but to be fair, in all the times I’ve used this roundabout, and taken my learners onto it, we’ve never seen a bus there. Bizarre place to have a bus stop 🤷🏻♂️. Just confuses people.
This whole roundabout is a nightmare though and has had several accidents on it over the years.
I too am confused by this and can't find a definitive answer in the Highway Code. The most relevant section I can find is
Rule 243
DO NOT stop or park:
at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
except when forced to do so by stationary traffic.
Obviously a car driver waiting at that bus stop will not have been stopped by stationary but by moving traffic and/or a red light. So no valid exception. To be clear, I am not saying one could be fined for using the bus stop, as it is not correctly marked as a bus stop clearway with yellow markings and no-stopping sign. But that's quite a separate matter from whether driving test examiners should be requiring candidates to disregard the advice of the Highway Code.
_Pace_ Ashley it doesn't seem to be a straightforward situation at all. Is the writing "BUS STOP" on the road there for the benefit/instruction of car drivers, bus drivers or people hoping to catch the bus? Because if for car drivers then there is a slight logical flaw in the writing only carrying any weight when it already has a bus on top of it.

5:43 I personally am getting fed up of bus drivers with MGIF syndrome. I don't understand why bus drivers seem to constantly go for the risky/impatient overtake when nine times out of ten they end up back behind me shortly afterwards anyway. On my cycle commute on Friday I had a bus overtake me and then immediately pull over into his next stop, so it gained him zero ground and forced me to have to put myself in danger as I then have to pull out and go round him. It ends up being this weird and stressful game of leapfrog and all for no reason. They pull the "have to stick to the schedule mate" excuse, but does ten whole seconds of being behind another vehicle really make that big of a difference to the drivers schedule? I think its just a road dominance mentality where they think that because they are driving something big that makes them the most important vehicle on the road.
That's a factor, but not the only one. Bus drivers have a timetable to keep to, and the pressure from management to avoid late running runs deep. Not an excuse for poor driving by any means, but something to bear in mind.

from clip 1: tire to tire contact is extremely effective in flipping cars. it's because the rotating tires convert nearly all the force to lift.
In the past couple of months I've seen two cars on their roof on motorways here in the UK.

In Hong Kong police drivers often overtook me over solid white lines when I was cycling! No exemptions there for overtaking certain road users travelling under 10 mph.
I was waiting for a plot twist to this one and find the marked police van was actually an old one that had been sold with the livery still present and the plain van was actually an unmarked police vehicle

At around 9:14, that's a major peeve of mine. Being in the process of manouvering into a parking space and impatient drivers wanting to overtake whilst I'm reversing. I then have to delay my manouvre as they come past due to the inherent "front end swing" when reversing.

But as in that clip, there are many instances where it would make sense to just let the person reversing complete their manoeuvre unhindered and be out of everyone's way rather than make them wait, whereby they are now an obstacle that multiple vehicles have to squeeze past.

They either have to wait for you to finish the manoeuvre, or you have to loop round several streets back to where you started to not hold them up. After a couple of times of doing that, too right some drivers will make the buggers wait 😅
10:15 Is that a bus only stop?. My opinion is there were no continuous white lines to stop the van from entering it.

1:19 - Jumping a red light when a filter arrow starts... I don't think the driver of the car in the left lane was necessarily reacting the right-turn filter arrow, like Ashley says. I think they probably just saw cars on the right entering the junction, which triggered what my instructor calls the "crazy follow my leader instinct"!
I'd agree, crazy and probably distracted. The driver was slowing down because the lights were changing from amber to red so they shouldn't be expecting to get a green so soon.
@@bramblevine That's right - but the urge to mindlessly copy what others do isn't rational! That's why it helps to have it pointed out to us, so we learn to consciously supress it.
That junction is right down the road from my house and yeah it's super common. There's another similar one not 10 minutes from this junction with the same issue. People see cars in totally different lanes going totally different directions move and just go instead of using their items thinking and observations.

Re the walking fail at 8:38 - it's not just about rushing or not looking, it's also about the reduced vision and hearing from wearing a waterproof with the hood up, especially when (as in this guy's case) the hood is a loose one that doesn't tighten around your head and so doesn't turn with your head, meaning you have to turn your entire body to the side to look for oncoming cars (as you see him later do properly when he's looking for traffic on his left). It takes a lot more effort just to turn and look for oncoming traffic in that situation, plus you've lost most of your peripheral vision so you're unlikely to just fortuitously notice something that you missed when you looked or something that comes from an unexpected direction. I don't like wearing waterproofs with the hood up unless there's truly torrential rain because of this; I would rather just accept getting wet and having to dry my hair.
@10:15 that road layout is all kinds of wrong IMO. You've got a bus stop, basically through a set of traffic lights, obstructing a pedestrian crossing area *also* the wrong side of the traffic lights. Move the whole lot a little further back, make it a proper pelican crossing, and either site the bus stop before the road splits with enough room to allow passing/overtaking the bus, or (more annoyingly, but still effective) as the road splits forcing following traffic to wait.
Since when can you not drive in a bus stop? If there's no bus, you can use that left lane all day long.

At 1:53, with the white van on the left merging over to the right. A good example of why it's important to move your head around your A pillar as well as being aware of other vehicles blind spots.
I am not sure it was left hand drive, though. I think you can see the instrument panel in the window. It is not a UK number plate but Irish rear plates are white.

Generally for Ashley's longer videos, I tend to pause and comment as I go along, making sure I watch an entire clip first so that I don't miss anything. For his shorter videos, I tend to watch the entire video first and then comment. I do try to focus on quality rather than quantity but I guess my interest and passion in driving can take over. First time I've seen my home town (Chippenham - at 10:40 (roundabout) on the channel.
We were taught (possibly incorrectly) to USE the left lane unless a bus is there and most people do, although the cammer should have seen the lack of indicator and dropped in behind
That clip with the "follow the leader" hard shoulder use is at Chain Bar (the M62/M606 interchange). Any accident on that stretch of the M62 and the ambulances will need that exit to access the A&E at Dewsbury Hospital.
4:30 I think it was typical Mitsubishi Evo driver behavior. Here in the US, all Mitsubishi Evos and Subaru WRXs (another similar car) are always driven by young kids doing tricks and fooling about in their cars
At around 2:18, that's a good illustration of the importance of being on high alert if ANY road user is lingering or "loitering" near a pedestrian crossing. Sometimes it turns out to be a "false alarm" but you will only know after the fact.
An interesting point to note is that the beacons are covered over. Would this indicate that they don’t work or the crossing is closed? The driver has taken this for granted and not stopped/slowed for the pedestrian.
@@ds_e5202 I'd still be cautious in case pedestrians don't see it the same way, rightly or wrongly. Whilst also being cautious about not getting rear ended by stopping unexpectedly. A bit of a balancing act I suspect.
Seems like the scooter riders didnt stop and check before crossing. So while we should be wary of pedestrians, pedestrians really nees to help themselves a bit too.
At least it looks like a minor incident, maybe some bruises and grazes and easily fixed damage.

Yeah, noticed that too, but I'd put the blame on the council or work persons / site manager for not closing off the crossing, you can see the barriers on the left hand side by a fence, so maybe the covers were forgotten about? Either way, it's still the pedestrians responsibility to ensure the traffic has slowed/stopping/stopped in my opinion.

If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.

I was thinking that too, the markings imply that it is a location where a bus may be stopped rather than is a bus stop only, especially the size of the bus stop sign. I have never seen the words bus stop appearing in white either, but it's not something I deal with and looking it up in the new regs is a pain.

There is a particular location in the center of Dublin city that is notorious for drug addicts just stepping out in front of traffic while crossing the road and expecting cars to just deal with it. As a pedestrian, I've witnessed this twice whereby cars had to swerve to avoid a collision. My driving instructor also mentioned it when I was driving along that road. It is a major thoroughfare too so it is always busy.

Whilst many of the driving fails seem to result from a lack of concentration and consideration for others, at least some instances can be put down to the poor design of road junctions and especially parking on main roads. Better signage would help too, rather than just white paint on road surfaces. Road markings are often obscured by vehicles, difficult to see in wet conditions and certainly in snow.
I agree. Though not about signage - there are already too many signs. Just consistent road design is all that is needed. Do that and you don't need lots of signs.
I'd agree if I thought most people even read signs. Sadly many folk are too focused on the bumper of the car in front to look at literally anything else.
Having just driven around the new city of Chelmsford. Where Essex has put lane markers on roundabouts, just as you get to a roundabout, with no signage, I just avoided an accident as the driver in front of me and myself released we needed to be in a different lane, the same one, fortunately following Ashley's advice on staggering my car there was no issue. If councils are going to mark roundabouts we as drivers need enough notification.
100% agree, complicated road systems are at least partially to blame for quite a large proportion of "innocent" mistakes (i.e. clearly no malice)

That clip at 4:40, I was driving up to Wales last year via the M5, and it was super congested near Taunton. I was just joining the motorway in the outermost lane, and about 5 minutes later, whilst moving at 5mph, a semi sped past me probably at around 40-50mph in the hard shoulder. When you consider how wide they are, that could have done much harm at someone not paying attention on the road ahead
The police were 100% committed to that overtake, then your viewer prevented them. Only think this because they then continued to overtake afterwards, watch the rear camera footage, they pushed through a gap with the oncoming car behind your viewer.
2:23 the car was way too close to have stopped, it even looks like it had crossed the threshold before the scooter moved off, the scooter hitting the back quarter panel shows the timing. Wonder if the rider let off the brake as it looks like a powered scooter and rode onto the crossing by accident

8:37 I would say the car was too fast round the corner here, the pedestrian already had a foot in the road when they come into sight and looks a little unsteady so walking while looking to the side might not be possible, I think they looked, reorientation forwards and stepped out
As a PP has pointed out it isn't a recognised crossing point, is on a blind bend and the pedestrian had a snorkel parka type hood. Was the car going a wee bit fast? Maybe but the pedestrian brought much more to the situation than the car driver, who sorted out what the careless pedestrian didn't.

The clip at 5:44 is in Chiwick west London. Its a dodgey bit of road at the best of times and I would rarly overtake even when on a motorbike, let alone in a bus!
I know where the bus stop junction is at 10:11 and interestingly my brother failed his driving test for doing what the camera car did, he was told that the left bus stop lane should have been used.

There are diagonal white stripes leading up to that section. The Van driver would have entered that lane by driving over them. Rule 130 says: "...If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so."
It wasn't necessary for van driver to enter the lane at that place, it's a fail.

2:15 I really hate those kinds of crossings, as they can be really unpredictable. I prefer to err on the side of caution, so I have often stopped "for no reason" because I didn't know what people next to it were going to do. Which is a pretty good reason, in my opinion, even if those honking their horns behind me don't agree.
As for checking my tires, I finished changing from summer to winter tyres 10 minutes before watching this video. This includes checking for damage and thread depth ✅️ 😉
You think that's bad.... We used to have one in my town (not in the UK) with some picnic tables on the island area next to the crossing... It was bloody awful to try and drive through, and just as bad to cross as a pedestrian. No one ever knew if the pedestrians were crossing or just walking to a table.

At around 0:18 it does surprise me how regular family cars can roll over so easily. YT is full of footage of this kind of thing. Even greater risk of rollover with the growing trend in SUV's. I believe the US NHTSA organization now has a rollover risk rating for vehicles they test. Not sure if EURO NCAP does but I'll check.

I do take responsibility for not being far enough back, but the actions of the car in front were very unexpected (especially as they pretty much came to a stop)

The police 'overtake' at 00:42 is a driving fail. You can't look to overtake on a left hand bend at that point, they are taught to take the nearside to look past the left side of the car then move out to the centre line or over it after the bend is complete

Re the Merc signalling right then signalling and turning right, there's someone in my area that's teaching drivers to signal left as they approach a roundabout, and then put the right indicator on once they're on the it, regardless of which exit they're taking. It's like they're literally just signalling which way they're turning the steering wheel... No, I can't work it out, but some drivers do this consistently and it's infuriatingly misleading.

Hi Ashley, I have a question about the clip at 10:10 regarding the bus stop. There are many bus stops that we drive straight through every day, provided there isn't a bus in it. The van drives through the stop, which I don't think it's wrong, since it doesn't say "BUS ONLY". Am I wrong? I know there are lives right before indicating an area that you can't enter but I can't tell if the van did cross those lines or not.
The van must've crossed those markings. The markings also mean cross them if it's safe and necessary, but it wasn't necessary. The markings are terrible and are unnecessary confusion. I agree that we drive through bus stop, but if the vehicles are queueing in lane 2 nobody should go in there.

10:05 a few years ago I did witness one fall off, and it’s a miracle that the windscreen of the car didn’t break (I was in the front passenger seat of the car it hit, it was starting to disintegrate before it hit though)
I had a few of them fall on me once when driving my mum's old Micra. Thankfully they didn't do any damage, but some also fell in front of the car so they stopped me immediately.

The police car was absolutely a driving fail. They had progressed onto the wrong side of the road with oncoming traffic in the opposite direction, causing the cammer to have to take evasive action. Whether they were doing so to start the overtake or just "take a peek" is irrelevant. Ashley, you shouldn't be so fearful of speaking up against this. Otherwise, you can't call yourself impartial if you pick and choose who to criticise.

The motorway exit clip at 4:39 is fairly standard for that junction. Junction 25 off the westbound M62 ‘SMART’ motorway, without exception every time I use that exit this happens. I personally think the reason people think they can use it is because they’ve probably just come down the hard shoulder on the smart road and just carry on on the off ramp regardless of the road markings. I’m not excusing their actions just conveying my experience of that junction and my hatred for smart motorways.
This happens on the M6 in Birmingham too. The overhead road signs say use the hard shoulder due to congestion and then many people think that they can continue using it on the slip road because there isn't a sign or notification saying stop using it. Then as in this clip when it suddenly changes to hashed marking their brain kicks into gear and they realise they shouldn't be in that lane! 😂

I haven’t used the M6 in a while but that has always been my experience.
The M42 for the A45 was always a fun one, drivers would use the hard shoulder or the short lane 1 post hard shoulder ending and the move straight into lane 2 of the slip road despite there being a second slip road off the motorway for the exit. The number of near misses witnessed there is staggering

As a local I have used it as a lane, it naturally works for taking the first exit into the left lane and then immediately off first exit at the next roundabout to Morrisons.
I wouldn’t use it for any other exit though.

At around 0:43 re the police car that might "just have been having a look" by straddling the centre line. "Having a look" to get an earlier view of the car they are about to collide with. I remember Ashley's video on positioning for optimal view on bends and recommending what he termed "Pinch an inch" for left hand bends, rather than all out "offsiding" or similar.
You can nip out to have a look on straight roads or long curves, not on a bend.

I'm not saying they didn't make a mistake, they did, but there could be a number of innocent reasons they were having a look, that relates to their duties.
They could've been following someone, and wanted to look to see where they were now / if they were still there.
They could be trying to catch up to someone to pull them over for something reasonably urgent, and needed to check if they could go for an overtake any time soon.
They could've been trying to look at the mirrors and/or something on the side of the car ahead.
Again, not saying it wasn't a bad time to look, but it wasn't at all any inconvenience for anyone else. The cammer barely had to react. It was such a non-event I'm surprised the cammer even sent it in AND Ashley showed it.
The Police van was definitely an issue, but again I don't think it was intentional, they were probably just hyper-focused on one thing (maybe their radio, a car they're following, anything), and didn't check their mirrors properly. A bad thing they should definitely work on to improve, but hyper-focus happens all the time to people.

That clip at 2:15 demonstrates why I firmly believe that non-motorists need to be held accountable for their own stupidity. If you pile into the *side* of a car at a crossing, that's on you for being stupid whether the car driver was legally obliged to read your mind and yield or not. Note that I am not excusing stupidity on the part of motorists, either. They clearly need to be accountable for their own stupid stuff. (Edit to add that in my part of the world, motorists are required to magically know that a pedestrian that is not even visible because they're crouched behind parked cars specifically hiding is going to suddenly cross the road as long as they do it at a crosswalk.)

8:24 These and other situations really make me dislike hoods on the roads, especially those wide ones. Yeah it kinda keeps your hair dry, but it can greatly impair peripheral vision, and your hearing too, with the drops falling on it. Waterproof cap, hat or beanie are a worthwhile purchase if you want to keep dry/warm, without impairing your senses too much.
E: On the bike I'd steer clear from any hood as you really can't compensate peripheral vision and hearing 100%. If wearing a helmet, get a a waterproof "scully" (hat desigened to go under a helmet), cycling cap, neck warmer (buff), balaclava and/or a helmet cover to eliminate the hood.
There's a railway training video which basically demonstrated that point, somewhere. Mind you, the "furry" hooded coats are just the worst, why do they even exist...
@@fetchstixRHD Oh yeah and not fit for purpose at all, in the rain that is, the fur will drip water in your face well after the rain stopped. It probably shelters you better in snowy conditions though. Just be aware that you're impaired in traffic when you have to wear such at thing, but so many pedestrians aren't in the best conditions.
The roundabout at 6:14 is absolutely awful. The markings are horribly confusing and have now entirely rubbed off, which is actually better because people now use it like a normal roundabout rather than trying to use the terrible road markings. That being said if you need to correct a mistake do so safely and not like that Mercedes!
0:38 Seen many police acting stupidly on the roads near me. Twice have done dangerous overtakes, once causing me to swerve left. And the other day there was a broken down car on a single carriageway. It was to the side so didn't even have to cross the line to overtake. But on the way back, a police car was there and he took it upon himself to park at an awkward angle causing everyone behind to have to wait until the other side was clear. I think any police officer that drives should have to take multiple additional tests as many of them are not suitable

It’s really not an issue.
I believe the reasoning is that just to the left there is a pedestrian access to Morrisons, and if you go straight (slightly right) you head out on to the dual carriageway out to the villages. So it’s a compromise between supermarket access and efficient bus routes.
Prob not many other options I guess. (And not enough budget to do anything better.).

I am a strong advocate of having traffic signals having all the lights with the arrows in the direction they are trying to control unfortunately, it seems that UK highways authorities are stuck with solid red and amber lights and have only a green arrow where required. In Europe all the lights controlling the direction will have arrows i.e. the red and the amber as well as the green. this means that the lighting control is much clearer and less ambiguous. I often have to have a double take when I arrive at a set of lights that control a direction to make sure that I observe only the one that controls my route and no other.
6:05 The problem may be the drivers picking the incorrect lane and using their indicators incorrectly, but the real problem is the road design. It's already not ideal if one of the lanes is allowed to go both ways, but this is just asking for trouble
At 4:43, the roadsign shows a roundabout with no less than 7 exits! Can't recall ever seeing that before. Even if I didn't know the area, I'd immediately be on high alert, as 7 exits would tell me there's going to be a high potential for lots to go wrong in terms of lane selections

The roundabout looks like Cleckheaton junction off the M62 west. It has traffic like this often as the 606 can't handle the volume of traffic onto it at rush hour. I've personally been stuck there for 3 hours in the past.
I don't think it's clever to use the hard shoulder, but I know many locals do use it to take the first exit instead of waiting 40 minutes for the left lane (mapped to the 5th!! exit) to clear to the roundabout. I think the entire exit needs redesigning, and I think there has been work recently (which in the short term has made it worse, but will hopefully help long term)

I would like to slightly challenge the bus stop clip on the roundabout towards the end of the video. There was a very short section of broken line after the hatch marking and as it was a bus 'stop' rather than a bus lane I would say it should be used as a left turn lane when clear although this is confused slightly by the solid white line that outlines the perimeter of the bus stop. In general it looks like this approach should be redesigned and signposted better for everyone's safety. I would love you to do a video looking at some new road systems similar to this cropping up around the UK that just seem to be ill-conceived. I know of quite a few in and around the north east where I live.

At 4:26, that high speed "McReverse" was crazy. On a side note, that looked like a Japanese import to me, for the following reasons:
1. Looked like a rare model Japanese vehicle that's not normally available in the UK
2. The more squarish rear number plate.
The above combined with the manner of driving says "Chav-mobile" to me.

I'm genuinely unsure about the bus stop one. If I approached that junction I would assume it is ok to be there because a bus isn't there. Never come across a bus stop in that scenario before.
Being a PDI on a trainee licence in the area of the clip at 10:10 the local driving examiners want road users to use the bus stop as if it were a lane.
Thinking about it bus stops marked on running lanes aren't that unusual where there isn't the width for a dedicated bay and we have no problem driving through them.
Even the hatching protecting this bus stop only has a broken line around it so it's not an offense to cross it.
All of which suggests that, letter of the law, there's nothing wrong with using that lane and it's the viewer using the right hand lane to turn left that's erred.
But it's a god awful piece of road design either way.

The clip with the small HGV and the Merc, the lorry is in the wrong lane. I know this roundabout well and the Merc looks like it's come off the A944 and is heading towards Countesswells/Cults. Probably should have cancelled their right signal but this is the only lane they could have been in to turn into the road they were intending on. The lorry looks as though it has come from Fairley Road and should be in the same lane as the Merc if it's looking to turn right on to the A944. Also note the lorry isn't signalling so my guess is they weren't familiar with the area. Those lights are also only on at peak times so this may have confused them further.

At 6:38, a by-product of the fact that the UK allows parking against the traffic flow during daylight hours (and the rule is widely ignored at night anyway).
I might have been tempted to stop in front of the "wrong way" car rather than accommodating him. Here in Australia parking against the traffic direction is not allowed.
The vid at 5mins. When I see shit like that happen I put myself half on so cars can’t get by. In my car it’s a 50/50 as some people will squeeze past. But when I drive my wagon for work it’s a solid “no, you ain’t passing” and can be seen from a fair distance.
Just like with how people will follow someone jumping ahead, sometimes I’ll look back and notice other people copying me once I do it.
Never be afraid to stop people being bad drivers. Cos most people will support you.
