      $849 for the base model is an absolute bargain for those that are fine with 8GB/256GB, and I am happy with that spec. I currently use an M2 version and is enough due tom Apple's RAM optimization, meaning even with my usual workload (office, 8-10 browser tabs, media, email, Evernote) I still have 2-3GB of available RAM! And unlike Windows's machines Apple Intelligence is optimized for 8GB so it is working great on the beta. I think Apple nailed it by having a base 8GB model meaning they can heavily discount it and target a lower price demographic.

    I don't know if it's just me who bought a M3 Air 15" in late march, but the video says to me pretty much the opposite of the thumbnail: Get the M3 Air now with the summer (school) discounts, because of it's very big jump in graphics performance (actually this makes a big difference for the casual videographer as I am cf. M2) in comparison to the M2 while the CPU performance is just so good already, the (admittedly BIG) boost the M4 get's isn't worth it for an Air. Otherwise it's pretty clear that there won't be big upgrades spec-wise according to your videos and all the other leak-pros. So to me it feels the 15", 16Gb version of the M3 still is the way to go and then the M5 or M6 will actually be a big upgrade: perhaps a new design, OLED, ... but that's just my 2 cents and of course I am biased as a broke student who just bought the M3 Air(?)..

      @@Didrik_B Honestly I don't know since it's my first macbook and I directly went with 15" since 13" seemed way to small for me. I am a big guy in both dimensions so the 15" seemed pretty small for me to begin with. But regarding your question: I am using it in the bed quite often and I like it very much in this use-case. I honestly cannot image to use a 13" since the 15" already is very small and thin to me. xD But the screen real estate is OK for working on the go: I use the highest relatively scaled resolution available (1920x1243) and it's fine. The 2560x1440 relatively scaled resolution on my workstation is way more comfortable of course, but it's fine nevertheless. But an even smaller canvas: Not for me and I honestly wonder how someone could use that to do anything productive on such a small screen even if they aren't as fat and tall as me. xD Best regards Q

    Just upgraded my laptop from a 2013 MacBook Pro 13” 8GB RAM 256 to the new MacBook M3 16GB 512 and it’s like a dream going from one to the other. I don’t know how often most people upgrade their laptop, but I use mine pretty much until they stop working. Only had to replace the battery once in my Pro during the last 11 years and now that its OS is obsolete and things like web browsers and apps don’t support it, I’m pretty much forced to upgrade.
    So far, loving the new MacBook Air. Has more power and efficiencies than my previous pro and is just a beautiful, light device all around.

      The localised keyboards is the issue driving up European prices. Even with the VAT, the keyboard localisation adds around 15%+ to the price. Not because the keyboard itself is expensive but because the inventory management is much more complex and thus expensive . There’s simply less economies of scale.

    The problem with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is lack of any future proofing. It’s all soldered and can’t be upgraded. If you run into programs that don’t start or crash of run very slowly, you have no choice other than buying a new laptop if those programs are important for you. OS and drivers and all the updates are eventually going to consume around half of that 256GB SSD. That’s fine if you don’t install many apps and don’t store photos and videos on your laptops. 256GB is the default for phones today and many demand more. Just be careful when buying the cheapest M3 Air. If it doesn’t meet your needs, you can’t update it. I personally would upgrade to 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD.

      I have been using 8GB/256GB or less for 40 years and no issues. All my family use 8GB and they are fine. The problem with techie YT, it is a tiny niche demographic and they all believe that everybody uses their PC like them---NEWS FLASH---we don't! It is perfect for me with 2-3GB free even on my full workload. Long may it continue as it means I get a base MacBook for a great price. I do get that some people may need more but the Air is an ultrabook so we are not talking about a semi-pro, pro or gaming workload. The MB Air is for light use though capable of more if needed.

    • @sebbbi2
      @sebbbi2 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ahaimes6320 My Windows 7 computer had also 4GB RAM + 4GB VRAM GPU (8GB total) 10 years ago and it was enough to run all apps and AAA games perfectly. But that was 10 years ago. Software has bloated massively. Displays have 4x higher pixel densities (720p->4K, images take 4x more RAM). Same is true for photos and videos. Web pages have also bloated massively (10x+ faster internet speeds). Even a web browser uses that 8GB alone if you open 100 tabs (some people do). Web browser is more responsive in a 16GB device today, and this is clearly visible in web benchmarks. 16GB M1 is today faster than 8GB M3, so if you can find older 16GB models in sale, you should take them instead. Both are fast enough for most users doing only lightweight tasks and web browsing on their laptop, but if you have 16GB and 8GB laptops side by side, the difference can be seen even in web browser.

My belief is the number of display controllers affects how many displays total. Hence why every mac since m1 the number of display controllers correlates to the number of available external displays.

    can the macbook edit videos taken on A6700 (XAVC HS 4K at 120fps with a bit rate of 280 Mbps H.265) and (XAVC S-I 4K at 60fps with a bit rate of 600 Mbps H.264)?
    I use Premiere Pro and my timeline is no more than 30 min long and I export mostly to H264 or H265. I also shoot timelape of maximum 1200 images (26 Megapixels RAW from A6700), I export them as TIFF (Zip Compression) and assemble them in Premiere Pro. I also plan on shooting Deep space Images and editing them on Siril. Also, my video editing and photography are casual hobbies, not professional endeavors. But when it comes to exporting, I have a soft spot for perfection-I just can’t bring myself to export anything less than the highest quality. So, even though I’m not a pro, I’d like my MacBook to handle these high-quality exports.
    Will a 13 inch Macbook do all these tasks (I do prefer the portability over the 15 inch)?

    1:49 Lol no, M3 Macbook air is not the king, battery life is pretty poor, especially compared to 13 M1 MBP but to M1 MBA too and thermals are bad. MBA M1 had larger heatsinks, better chassis, and M1 is more power efficient than M3.
    Battery cannot last 6h of light/medium work at 100% brightness on M3 MBA (discord, skype call, youtube, light web development... etc..). Cannot be used in lap how hot it gets very quickly, also the back of the screen gets hot at 100% brightness. And M3 performance is worse than M1 as soon as it gets hot. Inefficient chip compared to M1. M3 Air chassis looks great, it is very thin and portable, but many downsides.
    I sold 13.6 M3 MBA, and went back to M1 MBP 13 quickly. M3 makes sense only if you need better GPU. Also trackpad is shorter and more narrow than 13.3 MBP, nobody mentions this.There are few more details that are worse, but generally go for base M1 chip if you do not need very fast GPU.
