    Having had trouble with glue adhesion in the past while assembling Infinity models, I decided to run each mini through the ultrasonic cleaner prior to assembling this time. I was happily surprised that, for the most part, they went together without much adhesion trouble. I was using Army Painter's superglue. Hope that helps!

      I keep meaning to pick up an ultra sonic cleaner for my airbrush. This might be another reason for it.

      What did you put in the ultrasonic cleaner to clean the models?

    I had to pin the Infinity miniatures. Use a pin vise (small hand drill) to create a small hole. Use metal paperclip to give something to stick the parts together. Then, glue them together. This method will ensure that there is something holding the parts together. I have used Green Stuff to fill gaps and re-enforce the seams. This requires a bit of next level hobby skill which casual players may not be ready to step up and do. But the miniatures are still awesome.

      My pleasure! Love taking my time over this kind of video and making sure I get full viewpoint rather than just being first to get a video up. Infinity is something I love the look and sound of but its such a steep curve.

    totally agree, rules could have been much more streamlined and synthetic. I personally expected two games, one pick up and play and the other complex, deep and competitive. Having instead a complex game and a slightly scaled down version of that same game in my opinion does not make much sense. At that point you go infinity and that is it.

      Thanks for watching Federico - just saw you'd added to your comment. I agree - I was hoping for a much easier to play version rather than a copy and paste with less options.

      defiance is also coming up, that one will probably fill up the "pick up and play" space in their plans... anyway let's be honest, I love Corvus Belli long time but their rules and books (and as you say layouts... I work in communications so unavoidably I agree with u on the way rules are presented) were always messy. They should truly concentrate on this aspect for the forthcoming 4th edition

    Right there with you about gluing the models! You think because it's only 3 pieces, it'll be super quick, but no... 20 minutes each mini eating for the super glue to set!!! So you are not alone there. Also, yes, I bent the card board terrain joints as well.. That said, I do love everything Corvus Belli put out.

    Awesome review and comments. As a "new" Infinity player (new for the last 2 years and still learning) I find these intro box sets (e.g. Kaldstrom) invaluable. They really do a great job teaching the basics, taking new players through some of the key base concepts of the game. Yes, the jump the base rules is BIG, but unless your a genius, don't try to grasp all the different aspects of the game all at once. Learn the basics and then at your own pace add on a new concept or two. Play through those and then add on another new concept or two. Just my two-cents worth.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks James. I think you're right and I kind of defended it in the review. Its overwhelming when you see it all in one place. I almost wish the rule book broke it down and explained it as almost "ignore these until you need them" in some way.

  • @WhiskeyjackZA

    Good review. All valid criticisms. The best tip to get into Infinity is to find a playgroup or experienced opponent willing to show you the ropes. It is what pushed me away the first time (he just crushed me) and what hooked my for good the 2nd time (last year) I gave it a chance. The basic rules are simple but what makes the game special is the options / tactics available before even rolling a dice. Hence if you can find a group or opponent that sees you as an investment and willing to teach you as you play - it is absolute gold! Lucky in my experience this is probably the friendliest wargaming community in general.
    I also recommend you stick to one faction, play a consistent list and add additional skills / models as you get comfortable with your army and list.

    Damn you and your titillating titles!!!! :D
    I was expecting the opposite reaction!
    I'm not sure we're ready for this now, as we're completely new to "real" miniatures gaming (we mostly play miniatures skirmish board games) but I think I'll make the leap later in the year. My son will be almost 12, and we should have some experience with things like WarCry and Relicblade by that point.
    I love the Infinity universe and aesthetics so much, and the idea of "it's always your turn", that it sounds like it's worth the work. It sounds like what the game needs is an outside party to make a rules reference, that would make it easier to parse everything.
    Edit: I forgot to say, great video as always!!!

    My trick to build them is using green stuff - put a tiny bit in with super glue when assembling and it will be solid. Also found the terrain difficult to built, there is no where they are coming apart again to use the reverse side!

      @BlackJackLegacy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip! Lockdown made it hard to get supplies easily so had to make do with what I could get my hands on but no idea why Infinity minis are any different to everything else I glue together - metals included.

  • @LeeRuss
    @LeeRuss 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Coming late to the party here - a trick I learned when building infinity minis is to use a tiny bit of green stuff in the join (sandwiched between a drop of superglue on each piece to be glued). The GS helps even out any spaces between the contact points, and has the added bonus of holding the pieces in place due to its stickiness, as well as providing a shock absorber if you should ever knock the mini over - stops the pieces coming apart again! (EDIT: and I can now see a couple of others have already said the same thing! Lol that'll teach me to be slow off the mark watching this! 🤣)

    Hi again sir, Now that I´m reading your video quietly I arrived to the Glue section :-). I have to say that I had the same issues you described in the past, but not this time. In deed, I was really surprised how fast was all. I was advised I should use just a few glue per mini. I was using other brack of locite and voila, everything was smooth and fast, reaaaally fast. Pieces sticks almost instantly, and dont drop like in the past. A complete different experience from the past. (one comment, I clean with soap all the minis before)

    I think you've hit the nail on the head though, having all the special Rules vomited at you at once is a bit overwhelming. It's been one of the biggest factors that stopped me playing Infinity after about 5 years of playing it - if felt like half of our game-time was spent looking up special rules etc to remember what they did - that in itself is weird as it never feels this complex in other games out there, despite them having a similar amount of special rules etc.

    Permatex metal PermaPoxy to put metal miniatures together. Also large resing miniatures. Just need time to really stick. I normally attach arms and let it sit. Then other arm and sit. But once is done, would not get apart. Even been using for really heavy (large) metal miniatures like Rackham confrontation miniatures.

    Great video. Regarding the glue, I had more problems with the minis from the Operation Coldfront box (currently using Gorilla superglue, never seen the gel here in Sweden). Curious about taking the terrain in the box apart and putting it together, had one hell of a time getting it together (lots of those hooked bits got mangled), sure I did something wrong during the construction but it was infuriating at points (as much as the parts of the minis not sticking together). Finally, I still think Infinity is the best skirmish game I've tried. Well worth playing the game.

      It’s a great set definitely but it’s weird I’ve built minis for years and only ever have issues with Infinity minis - it’s like they use a different material or release agent that’s harder to clean off. Also I agree on the terrain. It’s fantastic but there must be a method into building them they don’t show you.

    Good video Andy. Tried returning to Infinity having not played since 1st Edition. Felt like it had gone from complicated to convoluted. Hoped Code One would be the answer but doesn't seems like it offers anything new. The existing rules/Recon allow you to play smaller games with a limited roster already.

    • @BlackJackLegacy

    Thanks for your honest approach. I had the feeling that the rule book might end up being something of a barrier so I did watch some how to play videos. I do find that normally the worst rulebooks are those that get lost in translation from one language to another but I don’t think that is the case, it seems more like the problem is an organisational one. Start where the player will start and work on from there and detail any extra skills, faction specific rules at the end. Many games suffer or even die because of their rule book. In this case the how to play videos I watched helped a lot and made it easier to spot bits in the rules that I wouldn’t need either for a while or if I were using a specific faction or class of soldier etc. This is not a cheap game to buy into so a problematic rule book does irk me but I, as you say, WANT to play this game so will persevere and I’m lucky that We have a few infinity players locally.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rules aren't that hard to understand once you get used to it but the layout just feels like it could do with a rejig. Almost like you should be given the rules in the order you'd encounter them in a demo or playing for the first time. Still a great game with gorgeous minis but just not a easy to get started as I'd hoped for.

    First off thanks for the video it’s great to see some one try different gaming systems. To hand my two cent on alternative games that are available.
    I find gaming to almost be oratory tradition, most games you are taught by others. This is now even more so with the prevalence of TH-cam. I truly think the biggest issue with a lot of gamers is they hate change and are very loyal to games. As I play more games than most I find the difficulty is not the game but getting people to even try. Most people are more likely to watch a video and reconfirm that there choice of game is the best and move along. This is not an insult as time is a precious resource and why spend it on something you might enjoy when you could spend it on something you do, this also stands with monetary investment in any game. That said...I advise anyone who plays any game to step outside there comfort zone and try maybe not infinity but The Drowned Earth, Bushido, Zone Raider, BATMAN, twisted, signum, drop fleet or zone.. you get the idea. Once you do that I think you will see how many games and also choices of game there are. We are in an age of choice and to be honest it worth doing.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Epoch of Ox - I think gaming is expensive and time consuming so getting people to try new games is tough. A game has to offer something very differnt (either amazing minis, great rules etc) to get people to move from the game they enjoy playing already or have spent a lot of time and money on.

    Maybe I have played N3 for to long, but C1 just looks so easy and streamlined I dont know who will have problems with the ruleset.
    Like you said, take into account you have all the rules, for all the factions in one book.
    Now take something like 40k: Core rules, I think 4 imperial armor books. 24(?) Factions and Subfactions, each with a book.
    And you guys think 90 pages with 1/3 covered in pictures is complex.
    The best way to learn the game, in my opinion: Take a player who knows how to play and let him teach you the game.
    In my years of N3 I basiclly never looked into the core rules.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you’re right that after years of already playing N3 you’ll see this as streamlined however this is aimed at newer players and sadly not everyone has someone to teach them how to play. That’s where the layout of the rules is important and why comparing it to other rule sets is also relevant. I think it’s not too bad once you get your head around it however there are much better laid out rule sets which help ease new players in to a game where being shown how to play isn’t an option.

    Is code one a good game in of itself or simply a stepping stone to N4? N4 ist just too much for a casual gamer like me, but interested in Code one

    I am under the impression that the only thing that makes Code One more accessible is the reduced army lists and game sizes. As you say in the review, you still have pages of special rules and weapon options, troop types... Overall pretty disappointing, I think.
    I'll still be giving it a go when we can get out playing again but yeah, was really hoping for something more straight forward.
    Interesting to hear you have the same problems gluing them as I do! ha ha
    Cheers, Lee.

    For glue the infinity models, I avoid any of the cheap superglues of the market.
    Gale force Nine superglue work fantastic, it ´s my recomendation.

    Same issue as Malifaux. Both are amazing objective-focused games, but have way too much esoteric knowledge needed to play confidently. It is hard to get people to get into, but I refuse to play GW games or their clones once knowing there is more to mini games than d6 killfests which are most games in the genre. Games like Aristeia and Godtear are my compromise usually. Would love games like this in a tabletop with a slight increase in depth... slight only.

    I really don’t understand why some think it’s too complex. I’ve played board games that are more complex! The base mechanic is not hard at all. It’s like Blackjack. You want high but not higher than your stat and you want higher than your opponent. The complexity maybe comes from just having more options. I hate 40k because it uses a d6 and is just too simple. Someone with simple math ability can make sure they win. Even Kill team is just too simple for me. I want guys that can run, jump, climb and shoot while doing it! I’m having a hard time with Code 1 because it cuts out things that I like. I wish they had gone down to 2-5 man teams and made it more complex! But I guess it comes down to what you like. I was mainly pushed out of 40k due to money. I found it was a “he who spends the most, wins”. But then I found Infinity where I didn’t need nearly as many figs and can do so much more. This is also a FREE game. You don't need to buy rule books at all. You got most of the rules in one rather that buying the rules and then needing to buy more rule books for you faction! I can read the rules for any enemy I don't have!
    Glue: What was being used? I use an cyanoacrylate extra thick glue and have not problems at all. I literally just put a piece together and it held in seconds. Being extra thick helps to keep pieces in place by itself.

      The dice mechanic and basic rues for move, shoot cover etc aren't what people find complex. It's the hard to pronounce and remember profile names, the multiple special abilities, the multitude of weapons etc. It's fine once you realise you don't need it all at once however compared to other tabletop games the learning curve is steeper and that puts a lot of folks off. You obviously enjoy more complex games so its no surprise this is right up your street. Thanks for watching and commenting too.

    Lets see... metal minis, really complex rules, and lore that just has not grabbed me, and I'm gonna have to hard pass on this. It's too bad though, it;s looks fantastic; great looking product over all. Maybe it they do plastic or resin minis, I might pick some up for Deadzone.

    I've been a long time Infinity player and honestly Code one made my heart sink a little bit when it was released.
    There were three issues I had with it firstly for old players it did nothing new and was almost restrictive.
    Even though it did focus on new players there were too many rules for new players. If there is a veteran player there it's fine but for a way to build into a community, the rule book is a mess. Lastly the marketing has been terrible. I love CB and infinity and want it to succeed, I've had more fun with the game than I have with 40k, I hope people will give it a go but sadly I don't think so. This was a chance for CB to make a super lite recon mode, but they didn't sadly.

      Sadly I agree with you. This was a great opportunity to do something different. And it kind of misses both ends of the scale. It’s neither straight forward enough as a stand alone entry into Infinity Universe and so it becomes a restricted N4 in which case just bite the bullet and learn N4. It’s a shame as I love the minis and the universe but I was hoping for something more casual and this isn’t it.

    Regarding the superglue, check out this video from Wyloch. He shows how to use the accelerant spray in a different manner to glue different materials together. It makes superglue so much less frustrating, I cannot recommend it enough. th-cam.com/video/lmuQW4tZSJQ/w-d-xo.html

    nice video, but once again a nope for me. i never liked the look of themodels, and this one is no different. Coupled with the fact that i play lots of different games, and see no need to divert all attention to one ruleset. I prefer things were you can just jump in with minor hassle.
    Oh and as i once mentioned on the stream, the names of some of the models sound like !'m sneezing :D
    Really don't like saying it, as you can see a lot of work and dedication goes into it by the company, but it just always leaves me cold, and that's pretty rare occurence for me!

      I think the issue is you get all of the info in one go rather than in bite size chunks or for specific factions. The core rules are pretty straight forward however its not something you play now and then.

  • @MoragTong_
    @MoragTong_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude. The infinity rule book has the rules for literally every faction/unit and its ONLY 200+ pages. How many pages would the 40k rulebook be if all of the codexs were in there...a thousand, 2 thousand? Why are you trying to learn every damn skill/rule in the game? 90% of that crap has NOTHING to do with your squad. Grab your minis, look at their skills...LEARN THOSE. Then play the game. If you don't have a hacker or an airborne guy in your unit, why the heck are you even reading that part? Learn your guys...you'll find out soon enough what your opponent can do. All of you people keep trying to learn/play this game like its 40k...it's not.
