  • Moving on from Reaper, another hugely popular question was whether or not these paints are suited to the super-detailed and smaller scale metal miniatures from Corvus Belli's Infinity model line. Let's find out!

    Man, I don't know why TH-cam thought to show me exactly this video after starting to assemble my operation crimson stone box but this is just what I was looking for. You managed to put into words so much about what was worrying me about the infinity minis. Coming from WH40k I already have all the paints but wasn't sure if they would work well on these kits

    Best video I've seen of these paints yet. Wasn't really planning on picking any of these up, but I can see these working a treat on the Batman minis thanks to this video. Also, really weird to actually see you paint a mini for the first time after years of watching videos of you pushing them around a table. I know you've said on your channel before that it's the part of the hobby you want to keep to yourself, I think this was a great excuse to break that rule a little bit, but I kinda hope it remains something you do keep as pure "hobby time" to help reduce risk of burnout!

    I'm an experienced painter. I even get regularly hired to do commission work. I am actually really excited for these. Sure they will be an absolute godsend for newer painters and those that just aren't that into painting. But these look like a great tool for experienced painters as well. The fact that they have thinning medium for it has me interested in what techniques you can use with heavily thinned paint. This will be perfect for painting my Ariadna that's more of a fun side project. I will probably continue with traditional painting on my CA which is more of a labor of love.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @jasonnewman3355
      @jasonnewman3355 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They airbrush without thinning very well apparently. I'm seeing some really stellar work out of Richard Gray using these airbrushed over very strong preshades then some minimal supplemental work with a brush. Since they're designed to be transparent and self shading they seem to work insanely well over things like zenithal highlights.

    I have two unrelated questions.
    #1, I am planning on becoming a patron. It seems to have a dollar per BatRep option. Can I also pick a flat monthly amount. And/or how many BatReps get posted in a given month?
    Oh, side-note Ash, You mention in one of your videos that you used to manage the Square One GW store. That was (almost 20 years ago) my first regular gaming venue. I moved to TO in (i think 2000) and started playing there regularly. Purged many a heretic with my Black Templars back then.
    #2, related to the issue at hand. I want to paint my Nomads in Imperial Fist Yellow. I love the idea of the "Fight the Power" cation looking like a conservative Space Marine Chapter. Plus it'll look pretty pretty.
    I followed the instructions on the Citadel app. Based them in Wraithbone and the Iyanden Yellow. But they've come out as more of an orange. And it's pretty blotchy. Should I be thinning it out? Do I need a thinning medium or will water do?
    I'm pretty good at the basic, coat/ink/highlight. But I thought this would save me some steps. So far, not so much.

  • @DanielVisOneCade
    @DanielVisOneCade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for tackling this one Ash.
    I have already brought this up in our group and a bit of elitism was thrown around CB miniatures deserve more etc but when push comes to shove every range, every model is just a blank canvas awaiting colour and getting that colour on there is what's important.
    You can't become a better player without playing and you can't become a better painting without painting. My first CB minis were dipped with Army Painter Strong Tone and they still hold up just as well as my airbrushed and highlighted minis today.

      It's aimed at the beginner painters I feel like? The weird pro painter videos on their channel kind of gave off the wrong target audience vibe though. The paints are basically Vallejo inks with flow aid premixed in them, but the real bonus is that instead of just 5 colors, you have an entire rainbow from GW

      @funkatr0n912 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the highlights where the color is a bit desaturated, they are well mapped out for traditional highlighting. So the contrast paint really just does the base + shade step to get you to tabletop standard in record time. Then you can (and should?) spend those time savings on highlights and lens effects, etc. But it does seems like these paints can give you a jump start to get to the "fun" part of painting rather than the base+wash grind.
