She was my main, so I saved her story for last. Concluding all the stories and ending it with this theme was perfection. Looking forward to playing the end game chapters next
Just experienced this theme for the first time. This is my favourite theme in this game and up there with They who govern reason and My quiet forest home from the first game. Yashinori Nishiki you have outdone everything I expected.
Yeah, I feel the same way about her music and her story. Started the game basically going anticlockwise from Osvald - so she was the last character I got to. And I was just like "really? She just wants to be a dancer?". Because, after all, by that point we had six stories with some decent weight to them (I lolled a bit at Hikari's - imagine coming upon a traveller who wants to join your party, who has the goal of OVERTHROWING A KINGDOM). And Partitio, but he gets a pass because he's an awesome character. So I get to Agnea last and it's like... right... she wants to be a famous dancer. But she had a lovely story and the best music. It's interesting how despite their stories arguably having less stakes than the other characters, their amazing personalities and music really give them a huge boost, and they're probably my favourite two characters as a result.
Finally free from experiencing every last bit this amazing game has to offer, I knew I had this had to be the first song I listened to. I started the game with Agnea, and if I had even the smallest doubt about that choice this song erased every last shred of it. Going through the final chapters, it was already a surprise enough to hear each Traveler's theme incorporated into their final boss theme. I was fully prepared to hear the dancer's wonderfully familiar tune upon going into the last of the final chapters, but needless to say when I hit phase 2 I was NOT in fact prepared for the finale to the story of Agnea 'I wrote my own boss theme' Bristarni I love Octopath I so much, but not one single story from the first game moved me anywhere close to the heavily low staked yet infinitely heartwarming tale of a simple village girl seeking stardom and refusing to lost grasp of that dream. Are there much better stories across both games with lots of great drama and writing? Absolutely. But Agnea Bristarni is without a doubt the only traveler who's story left me smiling and satisfied from start to end.
I heavily agree and I say this with my whole heart. I see so many people diss Agnea from her chapter 1 which I understand, its not everyones' cup of tea. But I think her story was probs the most beautifully executed story of the 8. The introduction, the build up, and the finale that lead to the confrontation and satisfying ending. Whereas some of the other travelers left more wanting or weren't as satisfying. Agnea is def my favorite character of Octopath 2.
How ironic that the story with the lowest stakes is the only one whose final boss actually managed to defeat me once. (Spoilers) Dolcinaea is seriously no joke when she starts charming your party members to her side. Even more so when that includes your Lv.60 Protagonist Hikari 👀
Wholeheartedly agree with your take. I'm not sure if Agnea's story is my personal favorite of the bunch, but it definitely is a very strong and well executed tale that too many online are dissing just because the stakes are low when compared to the other stories. Agnea's final boss (especially phase 2) was one of the few fights in the game that actually had me hyped when it started (Song of Hope is probably the best track in the whole game).
One of the best pieces of music in the game, fitting for the end of a journey that at its core is about music and dancing. It honestly surprises me that this is the only version that popped up in my search results. Thank you for putting it up.
Square is very particular about the octopath traveler games and their ost in particular since I don’t see them kill Bravely default 1, second or 2s ost this quickly
Spoilers Thorne, Teminos, Cassti, Hikari, and Osvald fight insane humans that throw away their humanity for dark powers Ochette fights a corrupting darkness ravaging the land and it's creatures Partitio fights Capitalism Agnea fights Divas...
I'd like to add that Partitio's story also stays rather positive and wholesome throughout with a genuinely happy ending and stakes that aren't dire. The only depressing side note to his story is SPOILERS Ori's whole deal
I have to say, Agnea probably had the least compelling story out of the 8 travelers, but this final theme literally is the best in the whole game in my opinion.
When you compare it uncovering a murder conspiracy from on high, breaking out of prison and seeking revenge on the man who murdered your family and framed you, or a kingdom embroiled in civil war, sure, it may not be as "compelling," but the ending of every single one of her chapters had me tearing up like crazy. Her story is very heartwarming. Her and Partitio's stories were both full of SO much heart.
@@Itsthatbun Exactly. Heart. You don't need grit and high stakes and world-shattering developments for a story to be compelling and draw you in. By the end of chapter 1, I wanted to give everyone in Cropdale a fucking hug. Then New Delsta in Chapter 2 had me FEELING THE SAME(except a certain theater manager). My feels never slept all the way through to the end.
I dunno. As a creative person, I find her story to be the most compelling. - Never forget your passion - Sometimes you are your own worst enemy - Dont forget that your work inspires others - Don't forget where you came from. That spark that started your creative journey. While numbers (subscribers, followers) are addicting, the initial spark is what will lead you to be more creative and more personally fulfilled. I learned more from Agnea than say Hikari or Osvald.
As a vocalist myself, I did find her story to resonate with me quite a bit. Sure, the stakes aren’t as high as the other stories, but the impact her talent has on the world around her, especially other performers, is really beautiful, and I think that’s kind of the point of her story. You don’t have to be enveloped in earth shattering situations to make a difference in the world. She spreads happiness and hope to others and that can make all the difference for so many. I think a lot of performers can relate to her story, because it’s a question you will inevitably ask yourself many times in your life if you choose to pursue it. “Why do I do this? Why do I want this recognition? What value does it have to me or others?” Somewhere along the way you will find yourself going down a certain path if you don’t hold to your core principles like Agnea does. You could wind up like Gil, where failure has drained you of your passion and purpose. Or you wind up like Dolcinea, where success becomes so overwhelming that it warps your original passion and purpose into something ugly. Sometimes, when the world is so full of problems, you also feel like you have to justify what you do. Like, is what I do something anyone should even care about? I love the “throw away line” Veronica says at the end of Agnea’s story. That it’s the most at peace she has seen Dolcinea in years. That one statement speaks volumes. I think Dolcinea felt a great deal of pressure to shine brighter and brighter for her audience and that she was the only one that possibly could. That pressure changed her and she could not rely on anyone else to be that light for others. Responsibility turned into vanity. But Agnea showed her that wasn’t true. She could finally rest. There are, after all, countless shining stars in the sky that we can look to for guidance. 🙂
Some say it's Hikari, and I can't help but agree. The whole "prince reclaiming his kingdom from a usurper/journeying to liberate his home" thing is a very 'protagonist'-esque trop.
I like to say Partitio, he is quite literally responsible for bringing the industrial revolution to the world and prevented a steampunk esque corporate dystopia.
I'd say Partitio as well. He has a lot of characteristics that line up with a classic leader. When things turn dark in the final chapter, he seems especially fitting to use as your main character. And story-wise, he is integral to the final plotline.
@@thethief4618 It definitely has a German or germanic feel to it but I couldn't give a concrete answer. Edit: actually, if we think about it, she could be German-inspired couldn't she?

Not the best only because Persona 5's Rivers in the desert exists 😎 But then there's this. Simply splendid.
I was listening to this while driving at night and jesus the voices toward the end scared me so bad 😭
