You missed out on the cultural side of Kandy because you didn't visit the right places. Kandy is famous for the Temple of the Tooth, where you can experience the city's rich culture and traditions. You mainly explored the everyday areas, but Kandy has world-famous cultural festivals worth Googling. I really enjoyed your videos; they're fascinating!
Brother, it seems like you missed almost everything about Kandy and what makes it the culture capital. didn't you went into the temple of sacred tooth relic ? and if you went in there you could have experienced the "Theva" - the daily service sort of ritual (Early Period of Service: 5.30 a.m. to 7.00 a.m. Middle Period of Service: 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Evening Period of Service: 6.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.) and it includes traditional drums and trumpets. It's very beautiful - a something you have to experience if you are visiting Kandy, then behind the temple you can go into old museum which actually was the palace of the last kings of the country. then if you wanted to see traditional kandyan dances you could have visit Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show just a bit further from the Temple. So you missed most of it so don't be quick to judge and say you don't get it as "cultural" capital. It's misleading. And be more respectful towards locals - don't grab random guys from shirts just to ask a question. be humble, your roots are in southern asia as it clearly shows so don't look down on it.
I totally agree with you guys. It's a shame he didn't research Kandy before going there. He covered the tiniest part of Kandy, not a single iconic monument was mentioned. The city of Kandy is famous for the "Dhalada Maaligawa" where the tooth relic is housed, the Kandy lake (a reservoir built by King Rajasinghe), palace where the kings lived, and the remnants/architecture of the colonial period. Please research a place thoroughly before going there and lack of a dazzling night life and malls doesn't mean lack of culture, your priorities are just different. You missed the mark here !! It's a pity this vlog didn't do any justice to the beautiful city of Kandy.
That’s Sri Lanka hospitality brother! Hats off to this beautiful girl, who’s doing a better job than a staff member at any five star hotel! I’d definitely visit this place next time in Kandy. Thank you for your amazing videos 🇱🇰💫 Ps. Kandy is more of a religious stopover, with the main attraction being the sacred Temple of the tooth.
Its called the cultural capital because of the temple of the tooth relic. It houses the Buddha's tooth and is one of the most sacred budhist places of worship in the world. The temple is located within the kandyan palace and is about 300yrs old. The kandyan kingdom was the last kingdom of sri lanka until it was taken over by the british for the first time. Because of the heavy religious and cultural influences, the society in kandy tends to be more conservative than other parts of sri lanka. Because of tourism and other factors kandy is now much less conservative but back in the 20th century it was much more different. There is a lot more history and cultural things regarding kandy, like the landy esala perahera, clothing, architecture etc. Besides the religion and religious ceremonies and society, it is just another regular city which is why you didnt feel the history and culture as you only explored the city.
I agree with you, I can understand why he was not impressed by Kandy because anything he did over there hasn't covered what exactly Kandy can offer for a tourist. So, I guess before we visit, we may need to search for what exactly we can see there and what that place can offer us ?
but still it has that traditional cultural vibe, look at the roads , decorated lamps , aesthetic places, buddhist flags kandy doesnt even have white lights at night, almost all are yellow, it is one of the best ways to lighten a traditional city bcz yellow lights feels like fire
Small tip. Before you go to a place search for what that place has to offer. You did not cover 99% of what kandy has to offer. Most people would be impressed by kandian architecture and many more. But glad to have you here in sri lanka. Enjoy the stay and wish you good health and happiness! ❤
Indeed! Kandy is a beautiful city. The Sweet Beans (plant-based cafe) is so nice and has a good vibes! And the lady is much nicer because she even offered u to come back the following day if u don’t have any cash on hand. 2 👍🏻👍🏻 ⬆️ One of the good things in watching travel vlog like yours, is that, we can witness the other beautiful side of the country Thanks for doing that Myer and super thanks for sharing, too Enjoy your Sri Lanka journey and be safe. 😊

Kandy is REALLY cultural, especially around the Temple of the TOOTH, the BIG BUDA on the hill and CENTRAL market close to where you jumped on that bus.
Bro every lake in Sri Lanka are man-made ones. Including Kandy Lake. Sri Lanka has no natural lakes - yeah strange isn't it ? Our reservoir system is ancient. Some of the tanks were constructed as many as 2,000 years ago. there are 35,000 man-made tanks spread through the island majority is in North-Central (Anuradhapura-Polonnaruwa districts) province where the rice capital is.

I’m so glad you are enjoying your stay in kandy and that cafe looks really cute. ❤Fun fact-About 150 years ago, Sri Lanka was the third largest exporter of coffee to the world. Unfortunately majority of the plantations were destroyed by a fungus. Therefore tea was introduced to replace coffee during late 1800s.
Kandy is definitely quite a bit more traditional, calm and relaxed compared to the likes of Colombo, Galle or Jaffna. Hope you enjoy your time there, theres quite a bit of scenic spots that just dont have a proper name. (Yet, that is, maybe you can change that 😂)

KANDY is just a city which is important to buddhists and sinhalese as a cultural capital, also for all sri lankans as the final kingdom of Sri Lanka I dont know why this city became touristy... actually kandy and nuwaraeliya is the hubs of LOCAL TOURISM ,not for international tourism BUT FOR SOME REASON OR WITHOUT REASON , THESE CITIES HAVE BECOME TOURISTY, definitly bcz of nature ,architecture and climate, I dont this this city will never allow night life (I mean clubs and pubs) bcz locals think its not good for buddhism and local traditions locals act crazy even when tourism minister said they should make even colombo a sleepless city allowing bigger night life stuff😂
There's plenty of nightlife spots in Kandy if you know where to go although the clubs tend to be members only and frequented by prominent Kandyan families.
Kandy town was almost ruined by unethical developments so.... it's cultural heritage and values have totally been torn apart.! 😮😮😮😮 What you tryed was called "CHEWING BEETLE," which is called ...."SÄRÀVITÅ" .that made you dizzy unless you used it. It's somewhat like chewing COCA LEAVES used by South American CHEWAWA INDIANS IN THE AMAZON JUNGLE INHABITANTS.!😮😮😮😮😮
Kandy is mostly the buddhist culture and touristy in August ,, during the Perahera ceremony. but not a famous tourist town like Nuwaraeliya, Ella or Down south coastal cities

You said touristic city like 15 times 😂. Kandy is NOT depend on tourism. That would be Ella or Beach towns in south. Not Kandy.
YOU didn't mention about "FRESH AIR" WHICH IS TOTALLY FREE IN SRI LANKA!.😅😅😅😅😮😮😮😮
I think its Saturday and Sunday school where teaches religion ❤
KANDY is just a city which is important to buddhists and sinhalese as a cultural capital, also for all sri lankans as the final kingdom of Sri Lanka
I dont know why this city became touristy... actually kandy and nuwaraeliya is the hubs of LOCAL TOURISM ,not for international tourism
BUT FOR SOME REASON OR WITHOUT REASON , THESE CITIES HAVE BECOME TOURISTY, definitly bcz of nature ,architecture and climate,
I dont this this city will never allow night life (I mean clubs and pubs) bcz locals think its not good for buddhism and local traditions
locals act crazy even when tourism minister said they should make even colombo a sleepless city allowing bigger night life stuff😂
It seems that Kandy isn't your cup of tea . It is a highly religious place where clubs, night parties, such things are forbidden .
no not forbidden, not much popular. but there are few.
Did you see any big monitor lizards in kandy
Hi bro
Brother normaly if we are going to the temple ,we are wearing white colour dress .specialy budhist people .
Kandy is mostly the buddhist culture and touristy in August ,, during the Perahera ceremony. but not a famous tourist town like Nuwaraeliya, Ella or Down south coastal cities
Who said that 😂. It is one of the famous tourist cities srilanka. And It's the second largest city in Srilanka
