    Clear and to the point. I love the pop up

      David this is such a nice compliment. I can’t tell you how much it means for people to realize the level of effort that goes into these.

    no toilet, no shower, no AC. So you shower using the garage area? Is there a hot water spigot there? In the top is there the Froli spring system?

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct on all those. I have a portable toilet that works great. For the shower, I use the exterior shower in the garage or (more often) go to Anytime Fitness for a workout and shower (it’s 24 hours). No hot water is correct. I may add as an upgrade later. No AC except in the cab which actually does a great job of cooling things down.
      With these vehicles, it’s all about compromises. It’s almost unfair to compare to most RVs instead to custom van builds where people are used to making these types of compromises.
      For me, coming from a ‘87 Westy, this was exactly what I wanted.

    • @gregohb
      @gregohb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scobelverse thanks Matt. Comparing this to the Solis, it seems that it takes about $45k to get the toilet, shower, AC, and a little longer. But from what I have seen Pleasure Way is a better build quality than Winnebago. I wish PW would make another pop up.

    @ $70k you have already doubled your value! 2022 are $140k. The only thing I didn't really like about the Tofino was that hole for the upper bunk vice the entire thing lifting like a Westfalia or Sportsmobile. Probably trademark issues. But the Tofino is a good start, esp with the repair costs of the Westys.

  • @ocwaveoc69
    @ocwaveoc69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Number of repair you had to do on such new vehicle is unbelievable. I would imagine Tofino was in the shop quite a bit. If the part was not available, you probably had to wait a week or two.
    I checked it out and personally was not impressed by the bed. It was super uncomfortable. Plus, standing area being so tiny doesn't allow you to walk around in the van.

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you checkout the list I made? It’s pretty insane right? The good news is I’ve never had to leave it for longer than a few hours, haven’t paid a dollar out of pocket, and have had no MAJOR failures. I still struggled with this, but not having to pay out of pocket or fight with individual part manufactures certainly helped.
      For the bed, I think I agree but I’m unique in my choice of beds. For me it was perfect. For others they may want to bring down the cushion from the roof, although that’s not an elegant solution.
      The standing is a bit of an annoyance. I would have sacrificed a bit more open space for the bed up top but unfortunately it wouldn’t allow the build to pass the crush test safety tests here in Canada.
      Lots of great options though if you want the ability to walk! Thanks for watching.

    Great video, thanks. I've been looking at the Tofino for awhile now, and love its features. Specifically, it seems to excel in compact size, electronics and quality reputation. One thing that has me looking more towards the Winnebago Solis though, is the increased cabinet storage, ability to stand up throughout the inside, and a bathroom. It is longer though, more expensive, and doesn't have the Lithium batteries, inverter and elegant touch screen control panel (made even larger for 2021) that the Tofino has. Lots of pros and cons for each.

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the comment Steve. I think there are pros and cons of both. Because I’m not living in this full time and because it’s made here in Canada, I chose the Tofino.

    Nice review. Love the Tofino. Will you give the dimensions of the garage (under the bed) with the bed down, in the sleeping configuration? Would you comment on the standing area? Specifically, do you think the upper bunk should follow the pop top roof up when not in use to give more room over the couch? Then pull the bunk down if needed. I wish PW would offer this w/o the upper bunk. Thanks, I look forward to seeing more vids on your Tofino.

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I will try to measure the garage area for you when I empty it. For the standing area I wish it was another foot back, but I don’t think it necessarily needs to be right over the bench. From talking to PW, if they cut any more out it wouldn’t pass crush tests for road safety. Maybe one day I’ll mod it :)

      I would say it's 5'10" with the roof closed. I can standup with a slight bend, but not fully extended.

    The back seats only have one safety belt set ? Does it mean totally seat 3 people while driving?

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I explained that poorly. The bench has two safety belts, however they only go around your waist (not a 3 point system like we now have in all cars). It's still legal to drive with just the waist belt, but I think most people would be uncomfortable putting young children in these restraints.

      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David. I actually address this near the end of the video. There’s no doubt that this van (or similar) could be built for significantly less (although the poptop and windows are probably the hardest to replicate). However, my decision was a time vs. money evaluation and how much I wanted to continue to handle repairs, etc on my own. Since there’s a pretty incredible 5 year warranty on every single part included in this van (with labour included) and the company that makes these is a 7 hour drive away, it swayed me in that decision. I completely get where you’re coming from, but for me it was likely the right decision. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!

    This seems to be the closest thing to a VW Eurovan, or Vanagon, available in the US these days as far as I can tell. I am stumped as to why there aren’t more vehicles on the market that could serve as a daily driver sized van that doubles as a weekender. I have lost hope on VW’s new microbus ever coming the US, and even if it did, it looks more like a space moon rover, than something i want to drive everyday and maybe camp in. How’s this vehicle doing, maintenance, reliability wise now? Some quick research on the RAM 1500 van alone, reveals a pretty sub par rating unfortunately. I used to have.a 2002 VW Eurovan and ditched it before the problems got too expensive. But while I had it, I thought the ride quality was nice enough and enjoyed it. I do remember being astonished I had to pay 900 to fix an electrical problem that could only be solved by replacing some « computer ». I feel for what it is, it should be about 60k, 70k tops though. Currently they’re 85-95!!! And I was also astonished to see that the Ram’s entertainment unit is the same exact thing in my tiny Fiat 500e. Lol. But not a big deal. I wouldn’t bother replacing it because I can use my phone’s nav and audio via usb cable without delay just fine, can’t you? Would love to hear your follow up thoughts on the vehicle itself. Thanks for all your videos on this vehicle. I wish I had a video like this for every vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s those little things that get to you after you live with it for a while that get under your skin after the fact that drive you nuts! Thanks for the repair list, noticed it’s not been edited since sept 2020. Up to date? Do you still own this vehicle? And Table/Refrigerator, what’s the difference, i mix those up all the time! 😂

      The standard garage door height is 7 feet. Although , we are starting to see many homes with 8 foot garage door height, and in some instances a 7 footer can be swapped for a 8 footer with little to no modification. The Tofino is 8 feet 6 inches in height. If you remove the rack, you might be able to bring it down the 8 ft 4. Long story short… won’t fit in a standard garage.

    Great review. I'm back to watching videos on camper RVs because I am going to have to replace my '95 Honda SOON and I want something for recreation, because I'm close to retirement... And I want a short vehicle for just shopping errands and parking spaces. NO TOILET though except as an add on unit. Mmm..what to do. I'm a Canadian US dual citizen living and working in California.

    • @drobins8166
      @drobins8166 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tony you describe my situation....recently retired and time for a new car. Want something to use for daily driver and RV. However, insurance is a problem. If you're a homeowner you must have another vehicle to insure the RV. Strangely, if you live in the van a second vehicle is not required. This came from Progressive, Good Sam and others.

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It would be a great vehicle for that if it wasn’t for the lack of 3 point seats for the kids. I’ve heard a few people adding these as a mod (it’s a pretty glaring oversight). If you fix this issue then it’s the perfect vehicle for family adventure.

    • @nickbarbaza9019

    I checked out this van 2 years ago at a local dealer and thought it was nice but decided not to buy it for one main reason. The area where you can stand is very small (probably about 2 ft x 3 ft). Essentially, you can only stand when you are next to the sink. If the area where you can stand extends further back (like the Westfalia), I would have bought it (despite poor reliability of Ram van).

    How long does your propane last in cold winter months ? How much does it cost to fill an empty tank ?

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions. It costs between $10-12 here to fill the tank.The tank really varies depending on the conditions. On a -10C night, I've noticed the propane drops around 8% overnight. On a -20C night (two nights ago here) I saw the propane drop 20% over about a 12 hour period (I wasn't sleeping in there). Overall, I would say the heater is very efficient.

    Do they make this without the popup? Also, can you order it without the sink? I'd rather use a collapsible bin for dishes and carry water jugs.

    Hi Matt. Thanks for the video. I’m in the states trying to purchase a Tofino but I’m finding the dealers stick to the MSRP. Any tips on how to get a deal? Other campers I’ve looked at discount down from the MSRP. Feeling like I need to wait a while for demand to come down. Any thoughts? Still enjoying the van? Thanks.

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you checked out the Tofino group on Facebook? Lots of great info in there. It’s really tough to negotiate a discount when there are such short supply. think I would just ask yourself how quickly you want this and whether the money you might save waiting is worth postponing the adventure. I do still love it! Only thing I may start to be annoyed with is the lack of 4x4. But we will see after I put in some beefy winter tires how it fares
