hello I am French and I have an opel astra 1.7 cdti with an m32 gearbox, sometimes the 5th gear is difficult to engage, the gearbox makes no noise and the gears do not shift. What do you think?
Test drove an Astra J from 2013 and noticed the movement in the gearstick and immediately knew something was wrong. Nice to see this video as a confirmation. The car only had like 30k miles, kinda insane that it already starts breaking down that quick.
Chocolate gearboxes, I agree though it's insane how the cars only done 30k and the gearbox is already on its way out
@@easomr5353 Do you know if the models after 2013 which received bigger bearings and better oil distribution do any better?
@FHD from my understanding they suffer the same issues but the chances are alot slimmer. They're more likely to actually last the life of the car

I changed oil in M32 after 20k miles, added 2,6 liter for a total of aprox 2.8 l. The factory put aprox 2.3 l of oil which creates the problem.
My zafira b does the movement thing quite violently whilst driving in all gears .
It is quite worrying .
Hey guys, just looking for people's experience. I bought an Astra 2012(gen 2 gearbox) I knew of the problem but I kinda missed it while test driving. Few hours later I noticed my Gearbox moving into position once I clutch in (1-3 gear), but once it's in it's stays there. Everytime I push on the Gaspedal I hear lil clack noise. No whining tho. You guys think it's gonna last for 1-2 month's? How do I know it's getting bad? I can only change it in 2 months or sk
I have a similar problem, but with an M20 gearbox (basically an M32 for smaller engines). I don't hear the whining noise, but I have problems with the shifter handle. About 40% of the time it doesn't slide smoothly into gear, but it feels like it stucks through something, mostly when shifting into 2nd gear. It happens only while the car is moving, shifting while standing still is almost always smooth. I will try to change the gearbox oil and see if it helps. It's a 2006 Astra H 1.3 CDTI.
how did it go bro? I have similar issue on my Astra, changed oil, not much difference. I am thinking of draining and replacing clutch fluid next.
2011 zafira B M32 gearbox. My gear stick twitches in 3rd. when you do a gearbox oil change make sure you put 2.7lts of fluid in. It helps circulation in the box to put a bit more in.
Did the oil change fix the problem? I have the same issue. Going to 3rd, it has a noise.
@ezredes19 no it won't get rid of the problem but it will help the gear box last longer. My gear box never made a noise but the gear stick used to move when you go on and off the power.

Yeah I've got the same problem with my Vauxhall Zafira B done a lot of motorway mileage driving to Europe gearboxes dying put a new gearbox in not oem guaranteed for 30000 miles lasted 40 and now I will be scrapping it.
My box is actually not bad (M32) after 92k.
The 2nd gear has a bit of wear and the lever does move a little when throttle is applied.
I'm going to drop the oil and refill with Royal Purple this weekend. I've heard that one of the main issues with these was, apart from the poor quality components, they weren't filling them properly at the factory. I've yet to see one drop more than 1.5 liters of black goo when emptied! I mean they should hold 3 (3 quarts or 2.8 liters + 200 or so "wet"). No doubt that really doesn't help!
You've done very well to he fair, give her some fresh oil and yeah I don't understand why it took some long to realise
Mine made only 20k miles and there is also tension on 2nd gear. No problems with 5th and 6th.
@@Szarko32c 111, 000 as of today. I changed the gearbox oil every 15k which for me was every year or thereabouts. Its still reluctant to engage 2nd, especially on the gas (if you know this gearbox you know why - its flexing on throttle) but its not "impossible". No bearing whine yet either. I hope to get 160k out of this box/engine to recoup my investment. Change the oil. Avoid harsh acceleration and don't ride the clutch. 🤞

Mines a 14 plate b series engine and has the bigger endcase and still moves just same as yours it might last a bit longer with bigger endcase before it packs up but definitely isn't a fix. I'm going to see how it goes for a while but I'll be at halifax clutch and gearbox before long👍

@@MrClassicLuxury haven't had it done yet play isn't that bad at moment but it's getting worse they are the cheapest for m32 gearbox repairs they specialise in them I had a clutch and flywheel done in my astra van by them and they where miles cheaper than anyone else.

in gear and bite the clutch the engine will shift on its rubber mountings and move the gearlever slightly, my astra has over 300k km and apart from slight rough first to second is fine

Sorry for the late reply, my gearbox has been in bad shape for about a year now and still seems to going strong, I honestly think it’s how hard you push the gearbox

I drive it like that for 3 years on my fuat bravo with m32 gearbox but it slowly showing more sings ,the gear stick moves in 1st,2 and 5th gear ,orherwise the transition between shifting gears is smooth.
I had the same thing on a Peugeot and it was the midle engine mount. 🧐
think i have this gear box in my 2008 vectra, starting to get clutch judder is this a symptom? only happens in 1st
I know they did put the m32 in some vectra's not sure which ones and clutch judder is more likely to be clutch and flywheel rather than gearbox. Normally happens when you pull off and your clutch doesn't quite engage with the flywheel

I have a m32 gearbox insignia and theres a hole in the gearbox that lead to oil leak. So if I change the gearbox do I have to change clutch and fly wheel?
You don't have to change to them, it's just one of those things while the gearbox is out anyway its right there

Change transmission oil every 30k miles, look for post 2012 facelift models with improved bearing.
M32 6 Speed gearbox, fitted to lots of vauxhall models, alfa romeo and fiat models.
Bigger endcase bearings and later endcase design gains nothing for longevity.
Gearstick kick can occur in any gear not just 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th.
Bearing hum/noise can occur on its own but also at same time as gearstick movement - which means a full gearbox removal from the car and full refurbishment of gearbox is required, not just endcase bearings.
Sitting on motorway for long periods in 6th gear is not putting maximum load on the shaft bearings - unless accelerating you'll not be making boost nor pushing torque through the gearbox...
Draining the vauxhall gearbox oil and refilling with Fuchs Sintofluid 75w80 fullysynthetic gearbox oil and over filling it to 2.7L will drastically help longevity, and depending if engine power has been increased or not and mileage per year, the gearbox oil should be changed at same time as engine oil.....
The idea of it being changed every 6k miles is ludicrous!!
Exactly. There's about 200ml still left when drained. I stick in 2.6l of the Fuchs in the 159 with the M32 bringing it up to 2.8l. It's at it's happiest cruising stress free on the motorway in sixth.

It's not "the longer the ride the hotter it'll get". The gearbox will eventually reach it's optimal temperature and stay there unless your thrashing it around town where I never use 6th gear and rarely even 5th. Cruising on a motorway in 6th gear isn't going to overheat a front mounted gearbox with 70 mph air flowing over it. The most stressful thing you can do is HARD acceleration in 6th gear. I 'overfill' with 2.8 litres of Fuchs Titan Sintofluid SAE 75-80 every 50,000 miles. Now with 158,000 miles on the clock with no issues.

Corsa E 1.4T here . Whines like a Bitch on the motorway. Very depresssing . Just need to find the funds to get the bearings done . Looking towards the 600 mark I’d imagine ? .
