Read the original on Vita and thoroughly enjoyed it, so definitely getting this even if it's just to check out the "live action" design. Superb review once again Trent.

So, I love the review, man. I’ve been watching your other visual novel reviews also. I have a question though. Root Letter is right down my alley. It’s not a bishoujo. Are there any other visual novels that are not bishoujo that I’m missing? Thanks & keep up the great work.
I had a great time playing this on vita years ago, although the story and endings weren't the greatest ideas in the world. The vita version didn't have any of those typo errors.
@@madworld3572 a lot of people still use it. Still great for Vishal novels like this. There's a fan translation for example of the plastic memories VN on there coming out in weeks.
Well, that depends because this game is technically rated M for 17+. It has some cursing here and there (one of the characters has the nickname of Bitch throughout pretty much the entire game) and some implied more intimate stuff happening. And it’s a lot more interactive with the interrogations than a typical visual novel. I would say for an 11 year old this one might be a bit far into the more dark and more adult themes. Especially when you get to the implications for some of the darker endings. I don’t know if the interactivity is why you’re looking at this game but being interested in reading might be better gotten from a more typical vn that goes from scenes to dialogue choices rather than the moving from place to place and the Ace Attorney / Danganronpa style interrogations this game has. I’ve not played it but Little Busters could be more appropriate. It’s probably the most all ages oriented VN I can think of that’s on the Switch that doesn’t have any sort of adult themes thrown in. It’s main character is established as having lost his parents and is saved from his depression by a group of people that become his friends. And as far as I know that’s about as dark as it gets. But that’s all on what you’re looking for. VNs are a tough genre to hunt through as so many of them have more adult themes thrown around within them. Especially with alternate ends. A lot of the genre having a lot of sexual fanservice and the like.
A question for you; I heard that you can change the style of this game back to it's animated artstyle from the original root letter. Is that true? I'm asking cause if it does I'd rather get this version than the original -- In other words I want both the animated artstyle and the life action cutscenes.
@@forastero54321 Yes. You can change it in the main menu settings, but there is no hot-swapping while playing the game. I played with the drama-style for a while, but then changed for the original style because I liked it better.

the original on PS4 was good, really excited to play the switch port. waiting for my physical copy to release before I pick it up though.

Can choose to play Root Letter with only the drawn art or with photo's or is it always combination?
You can go into the menu and change it back and forth between the original art and the live action style.

Typos and formatting errors in a VN is a big no for me. I mean, they have *one* job.
9/10 for completely skipping an editorial phase ?! You got it for free, I get it.
Eventually it'll go for $1, I'll pick it up probably then.
