    I have the medium and fine Spyderco stones. Came from the sharpmaker and a worksharp precision adjust. I can't say enough about these stones and nothing negative. Crazy results! 👌

      Yes they are awesome. I would suggest a spray bottle with a tiny drop or two of dish soap as a lube and to keep them from getting loaded as fast. Take care and stay safe.

    Nice work 👍. I ordered the medium Spyderco stone on Amazon and looking forward to giving it a go. The ability to get in out and use it with minimal setup is a bonus. My diamond plates are more involved to use and I don't get nearly enough practice. Thanks for the video.

    A good place to get sharpening supplies in Canada that ive found is Lee Valley and warriors and wonders. Not to knock Amazon BUT there prices are sometimes higher than other companies just an FYI awesome video!!! Ive got 15 years of sharpening experience learnt on the farm.

      Justin B I will have to check out Lee Valley I’ve never been to their site thanks for the heads up. I’ve ordered a few knives from W&W before usually stuff on sale. I usually take a look at knives and sharpening stuff on Amazon once a month. I’ve stumbled on a few knives where the retailer has made mistakes. My last 2 finds were a bench made Aileron for $135 and a Dimitri Sinkovich ZT0450 for $140. Just a heads up if you ever have the time. Also where about is your farm?

    After watching several videos yesterday and some today, I've decided to give those Spyerco Ceramic stones a go. I have some cheaper stones, picked up a $10 stone from Harbor Freight, got one Smith's Stone from Walmart, but ready to step up and the Spydie Ceramic has been recommended by the most I believe. The medium one is where I'll start I guess.

    • @TheBigCanucker
      @TheBigCanucker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those $10 stones and Smiths stones have their place. I usually make sure the inexpensive stones are the really course stones to re-profile an edge or sharpen a really dull edge. The Spyderco Ceramic stones are awesome and last forever they don’t hog through metal like a really course stone can and usually the really course stones wear and dish quicker so you need to replace them more often and I would rather replace a $10 stone often then a $50 one. I hope this helps take care, good luck and have fun sharpening.

    I have all 3 spyderco ceramics. I typically use either soap and water or a degreaser spray cleaner and they dont load up so much. Ive also lapped one side of my medium and UF and they have two different grits on each stone basically. It's fantastic.

    • @TheBigCanucker
      @TheBigCanucker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What did you use to lap the stones with and what type of grit did you end up with? I might just give it a go buddy. Thanks and take care stay safe.

    • @sharpwhits0167
      @sharpwhits0167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBigCanucker I used silicon carbide wet/dry sand paper, lots of elbow grease and a pan of dawn and hot water. I started out with 220 grit. On my medium I stopped at about 400 grit. It's probably cuts more like a smoother version of the fine. Leaves a smoky polish with a nice toothy edge. On my uf i worked my way up to 2500 grit. Im not sure what to compare it to. Maybe like a high quality true hard ark. Puts a gorgeous polish and super fine edge on knives. I'll probably tweek the uf some more.
      I cut 1.5 inch by 3 inch strips, fd them in half and scrub the stone until the grit is gone off one side of the sandpaper and flip to the other while keeping the stone wet w the dawn and water. Ill use two to four strips per grit but one or two is probably sufficient after your initial grit. Am I making any sense?

    Useful video. I do not consider Spyderco ceramic stones beginner friendly. When person can maintain them clean/not loaded - they have their place in a sharpening set up. The KING 1k/6k is the way to go in the world of water stones. Have you ever consider Norton Crystolon and India stones?

      I’ve found the absolute fastest way is with water and a magic eraser, but you can also use water and barkeepers friend or any of the powder cleaners like comet. Another good cleaner is any of the glass stove top powders or pastes, but for the deepest clean a little Barkeepers Friend on a magic eraser with some water and it’s brand new again.

    The fine and the ultra fine feel the same to me, I picked up the ultra fine rods for my sharpmaker, the red dots on the uf rods wore off and now I can't tell which is which now, when I compared the fine bench stone with the uf, they feel the same, when I run something along the stones I'm feeling for which stone feels smoother but again they feel the same.

    • @TheBigCanucker
      @TheBigCanucker  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Weird I know there’s a subtle difference and I can definitely feel a difference in the stones with my finger and with a knife. Just wondering if both are cleaned up, try using a magic eraser and giving them a good clean and see if that helps.

      @TheBigCanucker  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m going to have to have a look at my sharpmaker rods and my fine and ultra fine stones and look closer. I’ve sprayed my ultra fine stone with .1 micron diamond spray and it’s gotten shiny now on one side, but I will look on the other and see. By the way that combo was a killer finisher on my knives when I hand sharpened.

    • @TheBigCanucker
      @TheBigCanucker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use them both on the same knife most times. I like using my knives plus strop right after sharpening because it’s a really good indicator on what type and where the burr is on the edge. It also does a great job of taking the burr off. As for the q micron diamond that’s my favourite edge. It will bring an edge back after some good use and I love the sticky sharp feel it gives when I’m done. I also find it’s the best over all edge. I use my .5 and .25 and although sharp don’t feel as sticky sharp. I hope that answers your question buddy. Take care and stay safe.

    If you are really into sharpening I would recommend picking up two venev ocb stones, the finish much higher than their grit rating, cut pretty damn fast and last a long time, they are expensive but they are really amazing stones, pretty much naniwa levels, would definitely go on the micron rating instead of grit because grit has a lot of different systems, venev for example uses the Russian grit system, naniwa uses JIS grit and DMT uses American grit, stones aren't created equal, dmt is great but naniwa and venev are a lot nicer once you get into it, also don't forget that your courses stone should give you an edge that can easily cut paper, if it doesn't do they you should definitely not depend on the higher grit stones to make the knife much sharper.

    • @TheBigCanucker
