Many people probably got into The Shins after watching Garden State. I got into Garden State after searching for this song. I watched the movie yesterday, it was great. The song? A masterpiece.
One of the great movies of our time. Probably the best music from a motion picture. I love the cinematography and just overall way the story is told. Zach Braff proves he's more than just an everyday actor with great Direction and Writing. One of my favorite movies.
I've seen this movie about five and one half times. It's honestly the best movie that has ever been made. And when they combined it with The Shins, especially New Slang, it made it more than a masterpiece. It's like it truly defines love. In a movie. It is simply beautiful.
the great thing about an amazing song such as this is that it can relate to anyone at anytime in their life. i'm 47 and i feel like this songs is so relevant to my life right now. i think the message and just the overall feeling i get when i hear this versions speaks volumes.
"It’s definitely a moment in my life, that sort of angst and confusion about what my future was going to be. The Shins weren’t anything when I wrote that song. There wasn’t any hope for anything like a music career. It’s that end-of-your-20s thing." James Mercer
This movie puts me in the best mood. kudos zach braff and your directing, acting, and your ability to never fail to impress. love his soundtracks too good vid :]
Gold teeth and a curse for this town Were all in my mouth Only I don't know how they got out, dear Turn me back into the pet I was when we met I was happier then with no mindset And if you took to me like a Gull takes to the wind Well, I'd've jumped from my trees And I'd've danced like the king of the eyesores And the rest of our lives would've fared well New slang when you notice the stripes The dirt in your fries Hope it's right when you die, old and bony Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall Never should have called But my head's to the wall and I'm lonely And if you took to me like a Gull takes to the wind Well, I'd've jumped from my trees And I'd've danced like the king of the eyesores And the rest of our lives would've fared well Godspeed, all the bakers at dawn May they all cut their thumbs And bleed into their buns 'til they melt away I'm looking in on the good life I might be doomed never to find Without a trust, a flaming field Am I too dumb to refine? And if you took to me like Well, I'd've danced like the queen of the eyesores And the rest of our lives would've fared well
i didn't know everyone's life ended up the same way if the really love the same song. Thanks for that pearl of wisdom pocnar. Must say I love this song and am very happy. Loving songs like this has only ever had a positive effect on my life. And don't worry, I'm older than 17 so you don't need to use the patronising talk on me too
The movie was really an amazing accomplishment. There is just so much "right" about that movie, it's scary. Very real, and full of important lessons and ideas. The soundtrack fits the movie better than any I have heard in years and years. Great song and compilation video.
i love this movie and have seen it so many times on this video where they scream into the abyss, even though the sound is off i can still hear the combined scream of all 3 of them
+Dangshnizzle Yeah, that's why I called it a recording and not a version. I was trying to show I know it's not just a remix or something. It's entirely different.
This isn't album version nor Garden State OST version. I think that this version is from the original 7" single. It would be really nice if someone can confirm this...?
This is the best Zach Braff movie out there. He wrote it, and picked the soundtrack which is pretty impressive. His other movies weren't nearly as good; when he acts in other people's movies all they want him to do is physical humor which is cool; cuz he does it on Scrubs all the time. In this movie he really shows depth as an actor that you don't see that often on Scrubs; and especially not in his other movies.
great song from a great movie. the song is very meaningful and many lines in it can be interpreted in various ways, so everybody can make up his own mind when listening to it, which is great. natalie portman is awesome in this movie. she embodies just the type of girl i would immediately fall in love with and could imagine spending my entire life with. brilliant independet movie, many major critics in germany rated it 10/10 which i can absolutely understand. zach braff is really very talented.
Trust me, the best cure is exercise. I've taken all kinds of medication, & nothing beats regular exercise. Even a fast walk for 30 mins whilst listening to a walkman helps. I personally love long bike rides @ night, when no one is around. I love being out & about when the world sleeps. But what ever floats ya boat
garden state and last kiss were great. i like last kiss a little better because its practically parallel to the imogen heap songs in it, which i find insanely cool. Great song and i really enjoyed this video. ^_^
yeah, i'm pretty sure that that part is just a dream. it shows his numbness to the things that are going on around him. how he has no emotion to that fact that the plane may be crashing and he might die. I think that's the whole point of that scene.
I've never seen this movie, but if it contains Zach Braff and The Shins, then I guess I should. Is this a cover, or a different movie version? It sounds different from the album version.
Natalie Portman could be a serial killer and no one would even suspect. She's so beautiful and looks so harmless and innocent. Dear god, I'd just like to talk to her for a while. She seems like a perfect person to talk to. I chose this movie because of Zach Braff, ended up completely amazed by Natalie.
this film is absolutely amazing, so realistic that i started to hate natalie portman's character (sam) for reminding me so much of my ex-girlfriend lol zach braff really knows how to make a movie appear like a piece of reality!
@IoSonoUomo Everything really, it just reminds me of times past with friends. How big life is and stuff, kinda gay I know but it just chills me out completely.
Many people probably got into The Shins after watching Garden State. I got into Garden State after searching for this song.
I watched the movie yesterday, it was great.
The song? A masterpiece.
Amazing movie, amazing band. Cool fun fact Zack Braff hand picked all the music for the movie and did a great job i must say.
and also won a Grammy award

Great film, great song, can't believe Zach Braff wrote, directed and starred in it.. And chose the soundtrack. Amazing!

Gold teeth and a curse for this town
Were all in my mouth
Only I don't know how they got out, dear
Turn me back into the pet
I was when we met
I was happier then with no mindset
And if you took to me like a
Gull takes to the wind
Well, I'd've jumped from my trees
And I'd've danced like the king of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would've fared well
New slang when you notice the stripes
The dirt in your fries
Hope it's right when you die, old and bony
Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall
Never should have called
But my head's to the wall and I'm lonely
And if you took to me like a
Gull takes to the wind
Well, I'd've jumped from my trees
And I'd've danced like the king of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would've fared well
Godspeed, all the bakers at dawn
May they all cut their thumbs
And bleed into their buns 'til they melt away
I'm looking in on the good life
I might be doomed never to find
Without a trust, a flaming field
Am I too dumb to refine?
And if you took to me like
Well, I'd've danced like the queen of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would've fared well
Such a peaceful song!
imposable not to feel chilled to this song!
i didn't know everyone's life ended up the same way if the really love the same song. Thanks for that pearl of wisdom pocnar. Must say I love this song and am very happy. Great song and compilation video.
there is no end to how much i love this movie and this song
This song and video were a perfect combination. Someone I love is moving away and my heart is broken tonight, this helped me cry. Thank you.
he also made the entire music mix for garden state and it was so good he won a Grammy for it
this movie and this song are amazing together. love them both!! ahhhh :)
i love this movie and have seen it so many times on this video where they scream into the abyss, even though the sound is off i can still hear the combined scream of all 3 of them
The beginning part with the song coming in and him just being apathetic on the plane is seriously one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
one of the best films ever
Does anyone know why this recording is different than all the others? It's tuned a half step down. The more common recording is tuned normally.
+wickkidda
I think it was recorded separately not sure where the unloader got this version. There are noticeably differences other than key.
+Dangshnizzle Yeah, that's why I called it a recording and not a version. I was trying to show I know it's not just a remix or something. It's entirely different.
Ah :)
yea, whatthef..k, cheap bastards
This isn't album version nor Garden State OST version.
I think that this version is from the original 7" single.
It would be really nice if someone can confirm this...?
i went from scrubs to this video to watching garden state and then back to this video all in the last couple of hours :)
one of the best songs ever
This movie was and is the best
ahh i love this movie!
its really deep and i love the soundtrack

The perfect video for the perfect song...it's a calm sadness... This video it's simply a masterpiece
I just watched this 4 times in a row before moving on to another video

nice movie, just watched it! zac braff is an incredible actor!
This is seriously my favorite song.
favorite movie ever
Kind of, but very very different songs. Both of them are true masterworks.
good song. wow makes you think of a lot depending on what mood your in.
I watched this movie because of Jim Parsons, I never thought it'd be as good as it turned out to be
Ich liebe diesen Film ! Ich liebe diese Musik !
Der beste Film Seit langem !

Lovely film.
Zach Braff is amazing! i really need to see that movie! :)
great song from a great movie.
the song is very meaningful and many lines in it can be interpreted in various ways, so everybody can make up his own mind when listening to it, which is great.
natalie portman is awesome in this movie. she embodies just the type of girl i would immediately fall in love with and could imagine spending my entire life with.

beautiful song...great editing on the video :)
The shins... they're great...
this song fits in with the film hand-in-hand.
rlly sweet and well written film..
Great song.
I feel like most people can relate to this movie, growing up in a boring town with a disfunstional family and never wanting to go back.
miss portman is so great in this movie. she makes a great indie nerd
just seen the movie today...it was pretty good...
Nice mix. You picked some good scenes for the compilation
j'adore cette musique.... ainsi que le film... original, drole et emouvant...
Super song!
garden state and last kiss were great. i like last kiss a little better because its practically parallel to the imogen heap songs in it, which i find insanely cool. Great song and i really enjoyed this video. ^_^
Yeah had to laugh about this as well! Anyway was a nice movie with nice soundtrack that you mixed with a nice song.

This song is like when a good mood makes a bed inside of your ear.
Great song :)
Davvero un bel video, complimenti :)

Great vid mate!
Was this video re-edited recently? For I remember it to be slightly different. It was brilliant.
new slang when you noticed the stripes, the dirt in your fries
Indeed.
very well said
somethings different with this version. Demo?!?
Love it anyhow
Yes. I hope someone can identify where it's from. I love this version.
She represents everything he wishes he was. She's spontanious and fun and innocent and happy and a family person
where did u get this version of the song? its different than the one on their album and the film soundtrack, and i think it sounds a lot better.
zach braff has such good taste in music
Well done.
I owe Zach Braff for turning me on to this band.
yeah, i'm pretty sure that that part is just a dream. it shows his numbness to the things that are going on around him. how he has no emotion to that fact that the plane may be crashing and he might die. I think that's the whole point of that scene.
@ilonka89 hell yeah it is. do you see that third guy? that is why the OP is saying awkward.
this is such a great song dont watch the video if you dont like it
whered u get that version of new slang? i have the shins album oh, inverted world but this one sounds different, i like it more.
I think that they probably took the original version and tuned it down a half step for the purposes of the movie, which is pretty easy to do.
the begining of this video is like my life
I've never seen this movie, but if it contains Zach Braff and The Shins, then I guess I should. Is this a cover, or a different movie version? It sounds different from the album version.
@007Southpark007
me to, it is now over 2 years ago...
Hey! I noticed this video is in a different tuning than the original! I kind of like this version more though, if it is a different version.
@Stevie2Sxc
Yes. Watch the movie! ;-)
haha i love that line
Natalie Portman could be a serial killer and no one would even suspect. She's so beautiful and looks so harmless and innocent. Dear god, I'd just like to talk to her for a while. She seems like a perfect person to talk to. I chose this movie because of Zach Braff, ended up completely amazed by Natalie.
a must see for all loners like me... who feel themselves lost out in a room full of cool guys.. :(.... :)
This isn't the album version of the song. Where did you get it?
This version seems different from the others, what is it called and where/How do I get it?
this film is absolutely amazing, so realistic that i started to hate natalie portman's character (sam) for reminding me so much of my ex-girlfriend lol
zach braff really knows how to make a movie appear like a piece of reality!
Me and this song...We know each other.
@SavvyJack1 This is a tuned down version of the song. I think this version is much better...much more haunting.
@sk8rking1234 they're shiiiiittingly amazing.
@IoSonoUomo Everything really, it just reminds me of times past with friends. How big life is and stuff, kinda gay I know but it just chills me out completely.
