I can’t recall if I have ever actually read a fantasy novel. I thought it would be too “out there” for me. I really appreciated this intro into this genre! I’m going to give it a try! 😊
This was so perfect! I have been researching this genre since the beginning of the year. I'm really not a fantasy person, but would like to start out slowly. These are great recommendations. I keep getting drawn to Divine Rivals, so I may start there. Thanks for this!
Thanks for the recommendations! I have been wanting to try fantasy. I just started Divine Rivals and I’m loving it. I have also heard that Daughter of the Moon Goddess was a good one to try for new fantasy readers so I might try that one next.
Nice list! I’m currently rereading the Mistborn trilogy (and the larger Cosmere) right now and loving it. I’m catching so much more the second time around. Another possible entry point into fantasy could be the Throne of Glass series or the gilded wolves trilogy.
I’m a big fantasy fan but haven’t heard of some of these! Thanks. Some other beginning fantasy series I have recommended to friends are Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker and The Paper Magician by Charlie Holmberg. Also just finished City of Brass based on your recommendation and really enjoyed it!
I agree to try YA fantasy. I have really enjoyed some books that were YA. Fantasy really did intimate me....the large books scare me!! I started Mistborn, but it is going to take me awhile to get through it. I really need to get back into again. Thank you for some more fantasy recommendations!
I’m already sold on how great fantasy books are, but this is a wonderful list! I’ve read and enjoyed most of these and agree they are good choices for beginners.
I’m a fairly seasoned fantasy reader but reading Six of Crows for the first time and I haven’t read Shadow and Bone. I would say that the book does rely on some working knowledge of the Grishaverse. There’s lots of terms tossed around at the beginning that the book assumes you know already (particularly the categories of the magic users). It DOES start to come together and you can assimilate the knowledge you need by continuing to read but may be a little off putting to new readers
Fair point! I do remember not understanding all the different magic users and groups but I worked most of it out. I am excited to reread it though after reading Shadow and Bone!
Loved Divine Rivals! Telemaire is also on my series after loving Naomi Novik's Spinning Silver. I would also recommend The Mirrored Visitor series by Christelle Dabos and Wishes and Wellingtons series by Julie Berry.
So love that you reccomend books that are not on the mainstream lists.
Great recommendations! I love YA fantasy, and I'm well over 40. ❤😁📚
Glad I'm not alone!!

Thank you for this, as I've been wanting to dive in and try but it definitely can be overwhelming!

I've heard good about The Daughter of the Moon Goddess!
Thank you so much for this- I just finished the ACOTAR series and loved it but normally don’t read fantasy so I’m going to explore these other books.
ACOTAR is definitely on my TBR :)

Yeah I should have mentioned TOG - I still have to give Gilded Wolves a try :)

Mistborn does take a bit to get through but it is so good!!

This was helpful for me, as I'm a 41 yr old who has never really read fantasy. I'm planning on trying a couple of these!
Hi Angie, hope your well. Really enjoyed this video as love fantasy.😊
That’s mostly all I’ve been reading lately. Love loosing myself in these worlds😁
