Just wanted to let you know that, because of a previous video… I got a hold of that Power Station for the 40% off kickstarter… thank you for bringing that to my attention! I basically got the solar panel for free, and paid no shipping/sales tax, on the savings.
@@OverlandLady I may have spoken too soon. Once they took my payment, on the 22nd, there was an issue with the survey…. They have not responded to any messages, since collecting kickstarter pledges. They just bounced.
Changing big tires, take a hint from semi tire guys. Use a lever like a long bar or handle etc. Set tire in front of spindle/Hub. Use lever under tire to lift tire into place. That way you're not lifting the full weight of tire...that's safer for your body.
Hi Yes. A trailer stub axle was actually one of the initial ideas I have had on the drawing board. However, due to Coastal Offroad's high clarence design, there was really no surface to mount the stub axle. Seeing how I would have to make a hinge mount anyways, I eventually went with a roller style hinge with heavy duty bearings. I specialize in various different types of HD conveyor systems many of which sit outside and take a beating in extreme climates for years at a time. I figured it would be really cool to see a setup meant for logging and mining systems be used on an offroad vehicle. - Eric
@@todd6888 Hi. Thank you for the input. Any chance you can go into detail with what you find to be the weak point. However, I can assure you with the time and due diligence I have spent on this project. Especially the swing-out system in question, there is nothing to worry about. All structural components on that swing out have been properly tig welded (root and cover pass in some areas). One pronounced feature of the Coastal offroad bumper is its 3/16 plate thickness. So with that being said it would be fair to assume that at 3/8th thickness of the hinge that the bumper would sooner flex itself in half before the hinge could be in a position stable enough to shear off. Just to go a bit into the culture of some of my designs, I create everything to be redundant. A bit of play here and there will save the stress on critical components of a system mounted on a moving vehicle. Hope this helps -Eric

remember, when using a fork lift, never jerk the controls. always smooth operation. never bob the controls like you did when you lowered the truck. Doing so causes both undue stress on the fork ends but more so on hydraulic components. The momentum can also cause loads to come unbalanced.
Does the spare tire shake when off-roading? I have been toying with the idea of getting a 4Runner and selling my 2012 FJ Cruiser for a new project. The rear tire carrier I have on my FJ is a dual swing out by Expedition One and the tire (285/75 r17) shakes when off-roading. I have the Coastal Offroad front bumper on the FJ. Thanks!
Wow That's an Amazing bumper , your friend is quite a designer and thinks things through. Glad to see you move on from your 4 Runner, can't wait to see what you will journey in. Take good care and be safe. 💗🚙🙏🌟👍
Where is you buddies shop located? I'm roundtripping out to Vancouver in August and would be down to have him build me a similar setup for my 4th gen :)
Hi, Yes! That would have been a way more simplistic and cost-effective idea. But, I decided on a pull pin on each side and a big locking toggle latch down the center. The reason being is that based off of my experience, once it's cold and muddy the raceways or springs get clogged up. Combine that with the weight digging the pin into the hinge would make it an absolute pain to open. If you do know of a brand that sells a heavy-duty enclosed style gate catch please pm me! I do very much enjoy tinkering with these systems. -Eric
You got a 3rd Gen 4R! Please make sure the front lower Ball joint is NEW and OEM (NEVER aftermarket). Also if your's is an automatic, please replace the radiator if it is 15+ years old (avoids pink milkshake). Lastly join T4R.org to make friends in 4R community. I have a 100 series, 3rd gen 4R, 4th gen Taco... Looking forward to see your expeditions!
Thanks for the design review on the bumper. Will help us design out weak spots before they become a problem 👍👍
Really interesting to see the changes Coastal made to the bumper due to info gained from your roll. Thanks for sharing that!

It looks so heavy!!
I hope you were able to salvage your Kenwood! Glad you're on the mend.
Cool vid. I have a Gen 3 Surf (same as the 4runner) so this was really interesting... Cheers and have a wonderful week :)
It’s great to have friends with skills like that. 👍
Interesting seeing the hinge setup, nearly every swing-away carrier I've seen has used a trailer stub axle for the hinge.
Yea I feel that weld holding that carrier on is a major weak point. I'm not sure that will take much time before it fails.

I think Eric can teach ARB some tricks about bars, if I was in Canada 🇨🇦 I would get him to mod my ARB swing away on the troopy 🤗 nice work Eric 👍 😀
Nice work 👍
Good stuff Mo😘

There is nothing sexier, than a beautiful woman talking about trucks!!!!!
I am interested in your interior overhead compartment/lights!
I still have the plastic bits but probably threw the brackets out. If you are still interested, send me an email info@moniquesong.com
Any word yet on the make and model of your replacement vehicle? Looing forward to seeing you get back on the road.
When you finish the new build. Have you began to plan your next adventure?

What's the total weight of that assembly, incl swingarms etc? Looks nice - but heavy...
Did forerunner take on the suggestions?
15:20 turn the red hande up, the car is long, mud will hit it and open the tyre rack.
Nice..5star 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Never heard of a "forklift" license. When I was in the USAF, it was just "do it", what ever you were driving or using. What can go wrong?
Hey are the rear bumper and front side arms still available?
Rear bumper yes. Side bars are gone.
@@OverlandLady Ok thanks sounds good how should I make contact with to arrange payment and shipping etc.?
I hope Eric is not taken:)
