    As of a few years ago, Tecumseh was still supporting their old equipment with new OEM parts. Although not a fan initially, I've come to be very fond of their engines and support team.

    These are rare engines. I did a video on a carb job on one of these about 3 years ago. Only one I've ever seen in person. It seems they only sold them in the northeast US for a very brief time. A very interesting Tecumseh with that carb!

      I just came across one in Missouri. It was/is on a 1995 Yard Man 21" Commercial deck. Everything is in pretty good shape considering the abuse it endured - the air filter was completly caked in dirt, the flywheel key was sheared and the blade was bent to hell. I replaced the key and blade and pulled that crazy carb off and sprayed everything I could spray with brake parts cleaner and put it back together. Mine runs, but it doesn't run well... misses out a fair bit.

  • @db130
    @db130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bruce, I rescued one like it earlier this summer. Everthing was good except for the engine, which had leaking oil all over the place and its air filter housing was home to an ant colony. I ended up repowering it with a spare Briggs OHV motor. I don't miss the ants!

    A person I do work for, I've been working on his lawn equipment for 6 years now.
    He got a mower from his dad's house, cause his father passed away earlier this year, not covid related, cancer, he asked me to take a look at it, it hasn't run in 10 years.
    I walked in his garage, and I saw it sitting there, it looked brand new, even the underside of the deck was rust free, and spotless, like he never used it.
    Turns out he bought it new, years ago, and used it twice.
    OK I thought it was a briggs, I hadn't seen one in 10 years, then it came flooding back to me, I said..... Oh hell no, to myself of course.
    I told the guy, what he had, and trust me he doesn't want it, you can't get the carb for it, at least a good clone, and adviced him to sell it asap, he did for 200, the person was a collector, and my client was very happy.

    First one I came across was this year also. Carb kept flooding even though the float was good. Since it moves up to close it was hitting the top of the carb and wouldn't seat. Check that fuel line also. Mine looked fine on the outside but after taking it apart a number of times to try and stop the flooding (bought a new needle and seat) found the fuel line all decintigrating on the inside. Got a Stens replacemt carb for $11 and that worked.
