Im honestly suprised how efficient Shaleback can be in combat. But lets be real... most people do tame them not for combat purpose, but because how cute they are, especially those hatchlings. I also have to give it to the authors, they roasted really nicely any player that killed one of those hatchlings (in-game description on Shaleback Hatchling Shell and Shaleback Hatchling Decoration).
My greater shaleback 2022 has 6.4K health + 1000 Armor at 20. In addition to the AOE and more carry slots, I love this companion. - At lower levels it was perfect for tanking multiple thralls while I picked the one to stun.
Got a plain normal one today. I put it in the couryard where my wheel of pain stands. Right next to the exit. I dont know, they kinda look like the perfect door guards xD
Lobsters are an easy choice when taming a greater shale I had to gather 10 shale back babies and put them in the pet care thingy and I got a greater! lobsters are key.
My level 11 Greater Shaleback almost too down a 3 skull croc boss almost by itself. I look foward to leveling it up some more to become more of a tank.

Hey there i wanted to ask somthing to the pro's how long does taming take because i was raising a schaleback and overnight it died can sombodey tell me how long it takes to raise your pets
The king Kappa is my favorite and he is easy to get. Here is a tip go to where a wild king kappa is and grab the babies that are close to it and you will have a greater chance to get one. Just feed it the exotic shell fish you don't even need the shade spice. Out of 5 babies that I put in a pen I sometimes get up to 3.
Yesterday I raid someone’s castle and they tamed a different type of shaleback it was stronger than the greater version I don’t know what it was and how they got it
Verdict: Average pet. Semi-useful for defending inside of your base in cramped quarters as its immunity to stun causes quite the distraction to raiders but not much use out in the field.

The shells have a really low drop rate and TBH, I felt horrible hacking down all those poor hatchlings and their caring parents.
They are great packmules too!
